More about Sepang

Sepang (KLIA Airport Area) is a large district to the south of Kuala Lumpur city center. While it doesn’t have much commercial or sightseeing appeal, it does serve as an important transport hub. Practically all tourists and business travelers will at least touch down in Sepang on their way to KLCC or other cities in Malaysia.

The main hub here is Kuala Lumpur International Airport, a major travel depot for Southeast Asia. It is situated around 50 kilometers south of the city center, where it operates four terminals and sees more than 35 million passengers per year. KLIA connects mainly to cities across Asia, but flagship carrier, Malaysia Airlines, operates service to Europe and North America.

There is accommodation on Sepang – KLIA Airport grounds, including a five-star luxury hotel. There is also a five-star coastal resort a short distance from the airport. The easiest way to get from the airport to the city center is via ERL station – KLIA Ekspress. It connects directly from the KLIA to Kuala Lumpur Sentral Station in less than 30 minutes. Salak Tinggi ERL station is also in the area.

The other major attraction in the area is Sepang F1 Circuit. This is one of the world’s newest F1 courses, and it offers excellent value for money on the international F1 circuit. The F1 circuit operates an airport shuttle when races are on, so there’s no need to arrange transportation.

Hotels in Sepang are busiest when races are on. Rooms near the airport and F1 circuit fill up quickly with fans from across Southeast Asia and Europe. At other times, hotels cater mainly for short-term visitors and business travelers who prefer to be based close to the airport.
