Priced right, needs work.”
Big room, reasonably clean and close to Sepilok Orangutan center. Facility as a whole in bad repair, needs a lot of work. Pool water very sketchy, wouldn't dip my toes in. Aircon noisy. Breakfast poor. Front desk supervisor not customer service oriented. Tried to charge us 10rm to driver us and luggage to the street.
An Orangutan Came into our Room”
When they said you'd get close to orangutan's we never thought one would come explore our room. We opened the door one morning and didn't close it fast enough, so out on the balcony we went while he played under our covers and stole our nuts. Got some good pictures after he left, and the staff cleaned up our room very nicely after he visited us. The rangers came and got him later. Apparently, he's a bit of a trouble maker. Unfortunately the pillows weren't soft enough to make him stay longer.
Great position ”
Great position near all the Sepilok attractions and close to a good value tasty local food shack that I would highly recommend. The resorts Cafe is overpriced and westernised. Great swimming pool. There are very few places to stay in Sepilok and all seem outdated and overpriced. This place is basic but ok considering you have a lovely pool to cool off in
Jungle hotel really sums this quaint place up. Rooms are adequate and the beds comfortable. ”
If you're looking for somewhere close to the orang utan rehabilitation centre, this is the place to stay. Its within walking distance without too much strain. The only fault is it is definitely not wheelchair friendly. The restaurant is quite a distance with many stairs. It is, however, very a scenic jungle walk crossing a lake and rainforest surroundings. Health permitting I'd live to return for a longer stay
Resort in the jungle”
The resort is kept nice and clean, from the rooms to the pool. The grounds are nice to wander around and there is wildlife to see, including bats eating the insects hanging around the lights after dark. The food at the restaurant was okay, while the location cant be beat close to both the orangutan and sun bear centres.
Close to Sun Bear abd Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center plus wonderful surrounding”
The resort just a short walk to the above places and not far from the Rain Forest Recovery Center. We also easily visited Labuk Bay by the mini van, we just waited for the van in front of the Sepilok Cafetaria or car park. The van departed at 10.30 am; then brought us to Labuk bay, went to platform B; then we had lunch, continue watching video then to platform B before the van sent us back to Sepilok. On the way back the driver dropped us at the Rain Florest Discovery Center , we visited this place then we walked back to the resort. The resort is clean and quite well maintained; my only complaint was the bathroom slash was broken and should change. We love the landscape , a lot of birds flying and whispering. This is my best place to stay during my Sabah vocation trip.
The room is really old, but it's clean. The staff wasn't helpful at all in telling us how to turn on the water heater. Or maybe the water heater doesn't work. We ended up taking cold showers. The front desk was helpful when we couldn't get a GRAB taxi to Sandakan. She phoned her friend and got us a taxi.
Nice stay. The rooms are a little retro, but large, clean, and comfortable. We had joining rooms that shared a balcony, which was perfect for our family. The resort is huge with raised walkways connecting all the buildings, which makes for walks to breakfast. One morning we saw a beautiful King Fisher on our way to the cafe. At night there are all sorts of jungle sounds. Great pool. Wonderful staff.
Great place ,rekomend, a very frendly staff for our reqeist like very erley morning trip 5 o clock thanks all from Denmark
You may found better , for a little bit more money
Not a great stay, the location made it. However had problems with the stay, no WiFi, broken door to balcony, door faulty to room. Addressed issues with manager (Chinese lady) she wouldn’t have cared less. We had explained how we had chosen a private room as a treat and weren’t happy with the broken doors. Really unprofessional and we felt like she just wanted our money. Room was a fair size however needs some tlc especially to bathroom. I wouldn’t stay here again. Such a shame given the beautiful location!
A decent place to stay in Sepilok”
An aging resort with serene environment. I would say its great for its price. A short stay is recommended and it certainly would't hurt to stay longer as the location itself is already great. You got what you paid for.
Very convenient for visiting Orangutan centre”
Good location, there are two swimming pools, smaller one is with slide fur children. Restaurant serves tasty food and is open till 21. Recommended
Total perfection ”
We stayed in the deluxe room with balcony and it did not disappoint. The decor was slightly outdated but I think it made the room feel more charming. The bed was comfortable and there is was plenty of space. The water pressure in the shower is weak but it’s not really an issue. The restaurant is a lovely place to sit with decent, reasonably priced food. The walk between the swimming pool and the restaurant is spectacular, along a wooden bridge surrounded by the beautiful jungle. The swimming pool was lovely and quiet. The location is great, a stones throw from the orangutan and sun bear conservation centres. The hotel also offers other tours, we visited the proboscis monkeys and it was amazing. To get there from Kota Kinabalu we took a coach which drops you off on the main road, then it’s about a 40 minute walk to the hotel but if you tell the hotel in advance I think they can make arrangements to collect you once you get off the coach. All in all an amazing stay, I was very sad to leave!
faded resort but has retro kitsh”
old school resort, reminded me of butlins trips when I was a kid, but lovely setting with pool and good cafe which has reasonable prices but beware there are no shops or other places to eat so you at at their mercy but eating and drinking is no issue. room cleaned every day. has kettle in room with free coffee and tea. a/c is weak but ok. really enjoyed my stay apart from the mosquitoes.
Owner started this some 25 yrs ago by digging massive ponds and planting trees. It has evolved to a lovely garden with an extensive foot bridge system with bridges over the ponds. Lots of wildlife. Bonus is the pool big enough for laps. Also kiddie pool with slide. We choose balcony room with great view over the garden. AC works great. Wifi works better than hotels in KK! Room 38 is a corner room so more Windows. Forget the TV- never turned it on. Friendly staff. Breakfast is fair. Other meals are very good, but not generous on portions. There is a more swank place up the street with a good restaurant with prices to match (good Caesar salad). Worth the splurge of25$ for 2!! SPR may not be the top end but I would not stay anywhere else in Sipolok. ORC and Sunbear center are 5 min walk. RDC is a it further (20min) with a great canopy walk and garden. Go early. ORC - you will fall in love....
Shame I wasn't staying longer as large grounds with swimming pool (although I believe there was a charge for this)but would have happily chilled there for a day! Not much else in Sepilok other than tourist attractions and one cool local food seller. No minimarts so only other option for food is in resort itself. Helpful and friendly staff too.
Almost in a middle of a jungle”
It a really nice quiet place, with a big jungle territory, a swimming pool, a restaurant. A very friendly staff. Sometimes the wild animals can be seen: kingfishers, hornbills, big lizards. The food was average, but ok. Note that the pool is not free, it costs 5MYR per person per day.
Accomodation nearby the urang utan rehabilitation center and rain forest discovery center Staff very friendly and helpfull, restaurant with good food Very clean and nice rooms situated in an immence beautifull jungle garden, no 5 stars hotel but a very comfortable and enjoyable place
Lovely hotel grounds, friendly staff”
We stayed here for a couple of nights while visiting the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary. The grounds are very, very pretty. The staff was very nice and helped us change rooms after requesting a double bed (rather than 2 twin size beds). You are a bit limited on where you can eat as there aren't any restaurants nearby but they have a restaurant/cafe located on the grounds which is okay. It is located within walking distance of the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary.
