Usually I don't bother with writing reports, but this hostel deserves 5/5 stars. It's very clean, well maintained and nothing is missing. Beds are mounted to the wall: no squeaking or shaking. No rays, that bother tall people, and good matreses.

Staff were terrific. Picked us up at the ferry when it would have been a heck of a walk otherwise given the amount of luggage we had, and then later stored said luggage for us while we walked the Queen Charlotte track for two days.

Cheap, but have everything a hostel should have. They got free breakfast and free dessert, good chocolate cake with ice cream. So crowded actually. Many long term stays. Few places for parking. 20min walk to the downtown. Quiet location. Just one night before the ferry.

Good for backpackers”

The shower water pressure was good. The wifi was free the staff were friendly and helpful. The car parking was free but a bit tight to park your car. The shower still had soap left in it from the previous guest/guests there was black mould in the shower. The bed was comfortable. The price was good for what you get just cleaning and parking let it down. I wouldn't stay again but it's good for backpackers. The walls are thin so noise is an issue.

A Little Disappointed”

After reading generally good reviews, we were a little disappointed here. The Hot Tub wasn’t working on a bleak evening (awaiting repair) the wifi didn’t reach our room (awaiting repair), had to park on the street when spaces ran out and 10 of the 16 hot plates weren’t working either. One thing is unlucky, more is pattern. The main manager was pleasant though.

No lock on ladies dorm door.... When asked for a key the response was.. This isn't Auckland... And too much trouble everyone having a key.. Imagine how many people would lose them....... Very odd response and attitude to female privacy and safety.
