Great location, lovely rooms, average food quality”
This was a very lovely stay in Chiang Saen, Chiang Rai. Serene at Chiang Rai is a 4.5 star resort and has an exceptional staff who are willing to assist their guests without issue. The only thing I feel that they could improve upon is the food - which was fairly average. However, if you look at the value for your money and you are really looking for top service at an outstanding price then, really, look no further. Serene at Chiang Rai is your best option!

Remote but charming place”
We stayed three nights in this hotel which was transformed from a former warehouse. The name "@Chiang Rai" is definetely misleading - be aware that you are next to the Golden Triangle (really next to - 150m) which is 60 km north of Chiang Rai. As we were one of the very few guests, we enjoyed an astonishing service which included several free drinks, fresh fruits and other goodies throughout the day. A plus for very hot days is the pool which is sourrounded by a nice terrace (direct Mekong view, nevertheless not viewable from the rooms or outside). The hotel staff was very nice and tried and managed to fulfill our wishes at all times. We also had a massage in their Spa which is a bright, clean room on the second floor - recommendable. Definetly try to get a room with Mekong -View, it is worth the surcharge. And the higher the floor is, the better becomes the view. Good kitchen which is not overpriced (only drinks are too expensive, but there's a 7-11 down the road...).

An Appropriate Name”
We enjoyed our stay at Serene Chiang Rai from the property itself, to our room, to the staff. The property is new, clean, with a wonderful seating area that is well kept with a beautiful view. Next to the gathering area is a beautiful long deck with great seating where we enjoyed our international breakfast buffet as well as a quiet, serene dinner. The deck alone is worth the stay! We were warmly greeted by a kind and efficient front desk staff. Our luggage was gathered and brought to our room quickly. When we needed help to find the best way to local sites, the staff had maps and kindly explained the best way to get to the our destination. When we returned they asked us how our day was and asked us specifically how we managed throughout the day. They were detailed and observant and great hosts. The manager could be seen throughout the day "checking in" with her guests to make sure that they were comfortable and had what they needed. We will return to Serene as often as we can.

Nice view but getting expensive”
I realy enjoyed my stay at Th Serene at Chiang Rai Hotel. The service is very good. The staff are all warm and welcoming. I had a River view room, Which I was very happy with. The view is very nice and relaxing. The room had plenty of space and the bed was comfortable. Be aware that the price has risen quite a bit, so I don't know that I will stay there again.

Beautiful hotel”
We arrived after travelling down the Mekhong from Jinghong in China and the Hotel Serene was such a welcome sight and very friendly staff. The manager let me use the office computer to email my wife as I had been out of touch for a couple of days. Very accomodating, they organised a bus to pick us up the following morning to Chiang Mai from outside the Hotel. Late afternoon view across the river of the golden pagoda in Laos was wonderful. We were there in low season so the hotel was only at minimum capacity. Relaxing. Golden Triangle village is not the place for night life but food and internet cafes are here within a few hundred metres. The room was large and we were upgrade to the river view twin for abour $11AU so cheap. The bathroom was a little odd but after China, the toilet flushed properly and the beds were soft enough and the AC worked. Nicely appointed. Good spot to stay for a few days and explore the area.

On the Mekong”
I doubt if there is a hotel with a better view of the Mekong River in this part of Thailand. The river view rooms (which cost more) provide a delightful view of the river, since the hotel is situation right on the river. The staff is very helpful and can arrange boat trips on the river, which can take you across to Laos, if you wish. The hotel is some 9 kilometers from Chiang Saen (a nice town with significant sites in its own right), and the hotel will pick you up there and take you into town, where you can rent bicyles or have a meal.

Loved the Serene!”
WE loved our stay at the Serene. IT is in a gorgeous location right on the MeKong River. It didn't take us long to decide to upgrade our rooms to the river side! What a spot to unwind with a cold Singha on the deck looking over the river to Laos. The hotel is very stylish, rooms are spacious. The breakfasts were ok, but more than made up for by the fantastic coffee - best I,ve had in a hotel in Thailand. There is not alot to do in the surrounding area without transport, but you can walk to Golden Triangle monument and the small Opium Museum. The town of Chiang Saen is a few minutes drive away, unfortunately we only had time to stop here briefly, would have enjoyed a morning to wander (or cycle as our host Ginny suggested) - maybe next time! Note that they are planning on putting in a pool by the end of the year, good if travelling with children.

Splendid location & charming service”
This hotel is great value for money. As the only hotel on the banks of the Mekong the public area views across the Maekhong to Laos are stunning. The restaurant is the best in a small country town with a compact but interesting choice and good service. Although it is on the main road the traffic noise is not intrusive and the access to river boats, The Hall of Opium and to other places in the area is excellent. The staff were really charming and service was quick so all in all this was a great place for the three days we spent in the Chiang Saen area.

Nice New Hotel at Golden Tiangle ”
We booked a Superior room with Special Request of having a river-view room, but realized that all Superior rooms are city-view only. Staff kindly upgraded us to a river-view room without extra charge given that it is not the peak season. Staff also patiently helped us to arrange transportation and activies around Golden Triangle area. The hotel also voluntarily provided free transportation to the Opium Hall and to Chiang Saen bus station (10 km away). Special thanks to the manager (Mr Thong) and to Mr June. Except breakfast, everything else is fine and highly recommended.

a very nice hotel with great view!”
I have been to Chiang Saen several times, but this was my first time to stay at this hotel. I really enjoyed the scenery from the room, Mekong River and Laos on the other side of the river. This hotel is a great hotel if you want to relax in your room all day long.

Stylish, modern hotel right at the Mekong”
the hotel is situated very close to the golden triangle point, and is modern with all amenities in the room. we got picked up from chaeng saen and upon arrival at the hotel, we learnt that due to roadworks, the electricity would be out for a couple of hours, which was no problem at all. however, the hotel chose to upgrade our room (nice). we received excellent service from the staff, helpful in local outtings, boat tours on the mekong and a short trip to laos, an island market just across the river. we were also nicely attended by the manager, with whom we had good and interesting discussions. although we only stayed for one night, we would definitively recommend the serene.

getting expensive”
The Serene at Chaing Rai Hotel is a very comfortable place to stay. The rooms are modern clean and well maintained. The view of the river is very nice also. The staff is warm, welcoming and helpful. The only fault I can find with the hotel is it's price. The price is now double what I paid per night, So I probably would look for a better deal.

Lovely hotel by Maekhong River”
We booked this hotel for an overnight staying on a trip to Mae Sai for shopping. Found it's a very lovely hotel by Maekhong River in Chiang Saen district, and opposite to a big gambling town in Laos on the other side of the river. One thing we love about this hotel is it's so fantastic when sitting in the restuarant by the river, drinking wine and looking to the opposite side of the river in the night.

Nice hotel, dead town”
I had a hard time getting here from the big border town to the NW (Mae Sai), road under construction in many places, took us about 5 hours by car :O( It isn't in Chiang Saen, BTW, it is just south of Sop Ruak on the riverside. You can see the big golden Buddah from the terrace. Nice hotel, will never visit the area again.
