More about Seri Kembangan / Balakong

Seri Kembangan was established as the Serdang New Village in 1952 when the British re-located Malaysian Chinese villagers living around Sungai Besi in the waning days of British rule.

Today, the area is best known as the home of the Mines Resort City. Once the world's largest open cast tin mine, a vast stretch of depressions and lakes remained when mining ceased in 1982. Today, the area has been transformed into a stunning 18-hole golf course, apartments, shopping centers, hotels, business complexes and parks connected by an artificial canal.

Overlooking a 150-acre lake, an award-winning five-star hotel - Palace of the Golden Horses - blends Moorish and Malaysian architecture. A dedicated conference center is located in a private wing with state-of-the-art facilities. The neighboring Mines Beach Resort and Spa boasts a man-made beach and swimming lagoon. To date, the development’s Mines Shopping Fair and a theme park named Mines Wonderland have also been completed.

Outside of the Mines Resort City, visitors to Seri Kembangan can experience a traditional Malaysian night market every Monday evening where local delicacies include salt chicken, sakura popiah and abalone mushrooms.
