Great location”

We had a great stay at the Shakespeare Hotel. It is very conveniently located close to Paddington Station (about 5 min walk with a toddler) and about a 10-15 min walk from Hyde Park. There is a lovely park in the middle of Norfolk Square, which our room overlooked. The room was fairly basic and worn but clean enough and had everything we needed: tea/coffee facilities, hairdryer, tv with lots of channels (including CBeebies), fridge and a couple of chairs. The room was quite warm, with very little air circulating, we were on 3rd floor. Having read other reviews I knew staircases were narrow and bathroom small but these weren't an issue. We really enjoyed the continental breakfast, particularly the fresh waffles and toast. The juices were tasty and there was a range of coffees and teas available. The only disappointment was that the site I booked on said the cost was £77, however I was charged in Euros and found once converted it was about £5 more. I suppose I should have checked.

Friendly, clean and comfortable ”

Myself and my 8 yr old son stayed at The Shakespeare Hotel for two nights over the New Year period. The location for a visit to London is perfect, a short walk from Paddington underground station and easily located. Upon arrival and throughout our short stay we found staff helpful and polite and the hotel to be clean and well presented. I had booked a double room which was small but clean and comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities. Bathroom and shower all in working order and enough storage space for our belongings. A bonus was the balcony overlooking the gardens which made for perfect photo opportunities! The television in our room lost signal occasionally but this wasn’t really an issue as we spent very little time at the hotel but would imagine, for those who wanted to view, that this could be a little frustrating. The breakfast available was satisfactory and I am already planning a return visit for this year with friends and family!

Little Treasure”

I was so surprised about this little treasure, for what I paid I wasn't expecting much but how wrong could I have been. Firstly the location was so close to Paddington station, not knowing the area I thought it would take ages to find but only took a couple of minutes. The staff were very helpful; I was so impressed. The room was small but as I am a solo traveler it was perfect for myself and you could see that it had been recently refurbished and had all you needed. If there was any negative it would be that I missed breakfast as they stopped serving at 9:15am, However not that dissatisfied as I had a great night sleep. The quality for myself was priceless and would definitely recommend to anybody if you are staying over in London and when I return to London I will be so staying at the Shakespeare Hotel again.

Short stay in London”

The Shakespeare Hotel is in a quiet, leafy location minutes from Paddington Station and several buses to take you around London. The staff are all very friendly and helpful, the breakfast was a really good continental with an option of paying just £3 for a full English! Our room was on the ground floor so we did hear the tubes passing underneath but that didn't disturb too much. There are several good restaurants within walking distance, including a fantastic Lebanese just around the corner.

Budget plus!”

Stayed at this hotel for one night on a visit to London with my adult son. We had single rooms B&B at a very reasonable rate and, although in separate parts of the hotel, they were both clean and comfortable with all the basics. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Breakfast was plain but perfectly adequate to set you up for the morning. In addition to a comfortable reception area (with a pretty impressive original fireplace) there was a room with a pool table for younger guests which was a definite plus. This hotels location is excellent - looking out onto the very pleasant Norfolk Square yet conveniently close to Paddington Station, with many shops, eateries and transport links close by. Hyde Park is just 7 minutes walk away.

Value for money ”

We spend 3 nights n this hotel. The location is very good. Near to Paddington station . Near to bus station . And near to Hyde park by foot. The staff is kind and very helpful . The room was clear and comfy. Warm enough. 24h open desk . The breakfast wasn't so good . And our room was in 4th floor without lift. But that's ok because let be honest . In London you will not find lift . Only if it's a new building . Next time for sure I will book this hotel . Try it . Thanks for everything.

Good hotel in Paddington Area and close to Hyde Park, buses at every corner, easy to reach central London. We had a triple room, spacious with a garden view and a small balcony. The room was cleaned daily also clean towels were replaced daily. Breakfast was basic, loved the waffles, coffee not the best but ok for some days. Great place if you want to visit London. I would definitely return.

Enjoyable mid- week break”

Friendly and helpful staff; excellent breakfast to start the day; good value for money

I had a most enjoyable mid-week break at the Shakespeare Hotel. From the moment that I arrived the staff made me feel welcome, and we anxious to help. The room was fairly small, but was spotless, and the tea and coffee making facilities were very welcome. The self-service breakfast was excellent and provided a good choice. A cooked breakfast was available for a small extra charge, but I was happy with that provided in the room charge. The staff at breakfast were very pleasant and efficient, and made sure that guests were satisfied. I had a comfortable stay, and would recommend the Shakespeare Hotel.

GREAT POSITION, GOOD VALUE AND HELPFUL STAFF”

I recently stayed five nights at the Shakespeare Hotel in Paddington. The position could not have been more convenient. Restaurants of all levels nearby and just around the corner from Paddington Railway Station and Underground Station. My room was small, a bit tired and at times overheated. However this could be overcome by partly opening the window. The room was quiet, the bed comfortable and small bathroom adequate for one person. Overall the position and price made this hotel good value.I would certainly return if I was a single travellor.

Quiet and good licatiin”

The hotel along the Norfolk square are basically small and we don’t expect too much. But surprisingly we found Shakespeare hotel is pretty good as it is tidy and clean. Hotel is just 3 min walk from Paddington but we have s very good sleep as our room cannot hear the road traffic. Downstairs have many different eateries. Very convenient for those who want to take train from Paddington.

Great value for money”

After staying at several hotels in London and Paris on this trip, Shakespeare stands out for its friendly staff, decent sized rooms (not as small as others we were in) and the breakfast. While the spread was simple, there was enough variety to not bore us over three breakfasts. And the fresh waffles were great! If you're not too fussy, want to stay near shops and amenities, especially near the tube station, this place offers more than what you'll pay for it.

Overnight stay.”

Although I received booking confirmation for the Shakespeare hotel I was actually directed to their sister Hotel The Dolphin which was only two doors away. The hotel was ok and room very clean but we were put on the top floor with no lift ! Not really what we wanted at the end of a very long day. Breakfast was pretty basic but again ok for the money we paid. It was pretty close to Hyde Park, ideal for our needs. So, yes I would recommend for an overnight stay but probably not any longer.

The only negative about this hotel was the fact there was no elevator as we had 4 suitcases. But we put everything we needed for our short stay in one case and left the rest in storage so it worked out ok. Breakfast was simple but ample. I would definitely stay there again. Next to Paddington tube and train station and minutes from Hyde park.

Location, location, location”

Great location. One street from Paddington Station,.... you can take the express from Heathrow Airport and walk to the hotel. Good for traveling in the underground. If you plan to use the underground ; get the Oyster Card from the first day. You will really save money. Staff is super helpful and very professional. Gave us directions everyday and were happy to help. A+ for them. Great front desk team. Remember, rooms do not have air conditioner, so keep this in mind if you travel in the summer. Rooms are small but if you're looking for the landmarks, you're just there to sleep. No elevator, so steps is what you get. But it's okay. Very nice neighborhood, clean, much security in the park across the street. Nice places to eat too. Other than no air conditioner .... A+ for them.

You get what you pay for”

I needed a central hotel as I was carrying heavy items on foot for work. Chose the Shakespeare largely due to its location, but also as it came with a free breakfast (saving me time in the morning). I checked in very late due to work, the staff member at the desk was very friendly (although he couldn't initially locate my Agoda booking). No help offered to carry baggage to room, but as there was apparently only one member of staff present, this isn't unusual. No lifts (I wasn't expecting any, as it's an old London terraced town-house), so had to negotiate increasingly narrowing and threadbaring stairs up to a higher floor. Hugely disappointed by the state of the room - cheap laminate flooring, small double bed pushed up against the wall as it barely fitted in the room, no kettle/tea-making facilities yet there was a small fridge in the room (which I had to turn off overnight due to the noise). Rattly old sash windows, and curtains which didn't quite cover the window. As it's central Paddington, the tubes and trains pass by closely and often (and you can hear/feel this). The bed was horribly uncomfortable - exactly the kind that cheap landlords buy for student accomodation, the white with fine blue stripe divan kind, and in very poor condition. The bathroom was also incredibly small, with poor water pressure, and no extractor fan. The only 'toiletries' were a cheap liquid soap in a dispenser by the sink, and another in the shower cubicle (no bath). The only mirror was a small one above the sink - none in the room itself. Rooms are not remotely soundproofed, so the raucous noises from people/tv in the adjacent room until 3am caused a great deal of annoyance. We didn't call reception to complain, as these neighbours would have heard every word of our phonecall, and who knows what hassle that would have caused? I asked a staff member why a kettle wasn't included in the room (as it clearly states that all rooms have tea-making facilities in the in-room guide), and he
