    Colonial style hotel with garden!”
    Colonial atmosphere, central location
This is a lovely 8 room hotel (formerly a private residence), all in red-brick with a small garden and fountain. It looks out to the back of the Holy Trinity Church as well as other historic brick-clad building. Inside, its colonial English decor. You cannot imagine you are in the midst of a bustling city like Shanghai (and literally 3-5 minutes walk from the Nanjing Lu pesdestrian mall). Excellent location, charming hotel, with an understated colonial feel. The only downside is the staff are not conversant in English. The male staff in particular seem to be pepetually grumpy (no smiles, no hellos, not at all conversant even if you speak to them). The female staff are much more smiley, helpful and cheerful, but they don't speak English either. The hotel does not have breakfast (as far as I can see). Nevertheless, this is an excellent choice. I love the spaciousness of my room (I had room 7, with 2 windows in different directions) and its tasteful decor (although there are quite a lot of stains on the carpet).

    A pleasant surprise”
historical but modern, full of character, very near the subway and Nanjing pedestrian road
This hotel used to be where the priests and the clergy used to stay. Built in the early 1900's, it has full of character and charm. The building and complex very well externally and internally. Only has 9 rooms, each room is kept clean. Traces of the old (antiques) and the new (LCD TV's) helped me understood the bety of this boutique hotel. I get crepped out with old hotels but this one didn't. My boss' room came with a chimney and the view of the garden from her window. Its a very serene hotel. They only serve breakfast in the room which is a bit expensive. But we noticed how persionalized the breakfast service is. I will definitely stay in this hotel again.

an oasis of calm in the midst of everything”
    location, location, rooms
The hotel is extremely well located just 400m from The Bund and Nanjing Road and 15mins to Peoples Park. Just three levels it has no lift. Built in 1928 it has been refurbished and its 9 ensuite rooms are larger than normal and well appointed with some having fireplaces. It offers great location and value for money and the staff, although they cannot speak English are friendly and will assist you.

    Very small hotel.”
    Nice antique design. Centralise location.
I traveled with my family so we needed 3 rooms in total. First room already comes in twin bed but the second was with a double bed. Still the room is huge enough there is no problem putting in another bed for us and they did it for free! But the 3rd room we had is very small compared with the first 2, so I would actually named it the "servant room". No night dining or beverage service possible in lobby or restaurant because apparently it is always fully booked for private events. Even the garden is not accessible in the night because of private event. That's a pity.

Former Anglican manse just behind the Bund”
    Location, peace & comfy bed
Overall the stay was good for location and room comfort. It is a very small heritage hotel converted from the old Anglican manse and in the grounds of the former Holy Trinity Cathedral and former Cathedral School for Boys. Easy to walk to the Bund or to Nanjing Lu - the main shopping street. There is a small convenience store just around the corner. There is nothing really to eat here - as it seems to cater for Chinese wedding parties on weekends but food can easily be found outside. Don't expect much from the young and bored-looking staff, English seems to be a problem as does service. But you get a quiet, historic heritage hotel feel in the heart of Shanghai.

Gorgeous place, very comfortable, great staff”
Great staff, beautiful old building, city centre location
Arriving on a midnight flight and only arriving at the hotel at 1am, the service was impeccable. The desk officer was helpful, cheerful, checked us in about 5 minutes and even carried our luggage up to our rooms for us. The Bund Garden Hotel appears to be housed in a heritage building, with its own little yard one might imagine horses and carriages once came through. Beautifully preserved, and beautifully modernized as well, without compromising too much on the sense of the history of the building. The room I had was gorgeously large. The bathroom was a little small, and the bathtub a little short (although quite nice and deep). Everything was very clean. There was a hint of smoke that pervaded the room (but I soon discovered that this is quite typical of smoggy Shanghai). The bed was large and comfortable (mattress is on the medium-firm side) and I might've been happier with firmer pillows, although the four pillows provided were more than generously fluffy. The hotel is tucked away in a quiet side-street, but located within the city centre area of Pudong itself, with a LOT of high-end high street shopping and shopping malls available within walking distance. There was also a 24-hour convenience store just around the corner (some 200m) from the hotel, which proved to be a blessed bane for this hungry midnight travellers. Despite the city-centre location though, the hotel is amazingly quiet (with rooms that face away from the streets) and sleep quality was unparalleled. I was awakened in the morning by the maid mistakenly coming in, so perhaps it would be best to either advise the front desk to not disturb you, or to ask if they had Do Not Disturb signs (as none was found in the room). An excellent stay. Would stay here again for (a) the value for money, (b) gorgeous settings, (c) great staff service, and (d) excellent location & proximity to the rail transport station.

Comfortable bed, Sitting room,Clean spacious bathroom, fine service.
I found the Bund Garden Hotel excellent for my stay in Shanghai. It was in a great location, within easy walking distance to the Bund, People's Park, old section of the city and CBD. It meant I could easily call in to take a break from my walking. The staff were very friendly and obliging. The room suite was palatial; anteroom, bedroom and spacious bathroom. It was very comfortable. There were many nice extras, such as toiletries, a fruit bowl, lollies and bottled water. Not being an experienced traveller, I was very grateful that the hotel staff, location and facilities made my stay so easy.

    Charming little hotel”
Unique old-time atmosphere with great location
The hotel is renovated from an 80 year old house. The decoration provides an atomosphere like living in the past. The guest room is spacious and with a nice balcony. The hotel locates at the center of the Bund area. The nearest subway station just take 5 minute walk. Very nice.

    Position, quiet, friendly staff
Carpets were a bit worn but that had no bearing on the stay and the great time we had in Shanghai
This hotel is like an oasis in the middle of Shanghai; quiet in a bustling metropolis. Ideal location for shopping, walk in the Bund, walk to People's Square, access to the Metro. The room was spacious, free internet connection, English TV channels, full marble bathroom, airconditioning. We didn't eat at the hotel, rather frequenting some of the local establishments.

    Great location
Staff were polite but did not seem to have a good command of English. It can also be noisy with music from functions able to be heard in guest rooms
This hotel is in a very central location very close to the Nanking Road pedestrian area and Nanking Road East subway station. Although there is no WiFi in the hotel there are lots of cafes nearby with good food and free WiFi. The Bund and Peace Hotel are a short walk and Peoples Park is a 20 min walk or a short taxi ride.

We had a great stay. The baby cot was available in our room when we arrived. Very nice room with good housekeeping. Even got newspapers and coockies in the room every day. The staff really did go the extra mile when we needed some extra help even after we had checked out.

Beautiful setting with a real feel of calm and peace in the middle of the Bund. Really well located near to the metro and all the sights of the Bund.
The hotel seemed to be more geared up for corporate entertaining and weddings rather than regular hotel guests.
Generally a good hotel, the pictures on the website is representative of how it looks. The rooms were clean and contained all the features they were meant to have. We didn't eat at the hotel but the restuarant and drinks area in the gardens looked very nice. I would reccomend this hotel for a short stay for couples. There was a nice feel of old Shanghai in the decor. The staff were really helpful and very nice.

Not enjoyable at all... Sub-standard for a hotel.”
Close to everything. Although the staff couldn't direct you to anything. I got send to the wrong place twice.
I wouldn't stay here again. Every little thing seemed to be an issue. What felt and sounded like a washing machine went all night. The bed actually shook at odd times. Enough that you questioned whether there was a mid sized animal under the bed trying to get out. Communication was the biggest issue. They couldn't seem to do it properly, even in Chinese. I had to twice get my suppliers in Shanghai to speak with them to organise one basic and one important thing. I don't speak Chinese. NONE of the staff speak English. I ended up having to research anywhere I wanted to go, write down on a search engine at their desk where anything was. They still didn't quite understand or seem to know the major tourist I also asked for a second towel 4 times. The first two times they nodded and smiled. The third time I had a supplier try and explain to them what I needed. I was told only one towel per guest per day. I ended up having to take down the only towel I had (A dirty one from that morning. It was 7pm at this point) place it on the front desk and say 2. 10 minutes later I got two towels. It shouldn't be so difficult to order a second towel! I also had to have a Chinese supplier ring the hotel staff to arrange a car and driver to visit a separate potential supplier. On my day off, I researched the fabric market. I've stayed in Shanghai 4 times previously. EVERY concierge / staff member knows it exists at every hotel I've been to. The staff here did not. They didn't know where the fake markets were or what it was either. THe beds were rock hard, my room had no wardrobe to hang anything and I had to put my suitcase on the floor. Because they had nowhere for it. I must say, I think the communication was the major problem with a lot of issues I had. But unfortunately I had a lot of issues? Like most places, I think the staff are genuinely nice people. It is just a terrible hotel.

This is a very nice hotel but not guest friendly . The bar is generally not in use. The restaurant was booked for private use. none of the staff spoke any basic English.
