Purple Mountain - great hotel!”

Very friendly staff, fluent in English. Stunning city views Very good location, close to public transport
The vegetarian food selection is a bit limited, but otherwise buffet and menue are really good.

After reading about 25 reviews of hotels all over Shanghai, I decided to book a night in the Purple Mountain. Of course the hotel is a few kilometres away from the centre, but that should be clear from one look on the map. It is very close to public transport, and that is one of the main advantages: take the Maglev, change trains and a few minutes later you leave Century Avenue station and are two hundred metres away from the hotel - great! The Chinese dinner from the menue I had was very good, and the room was very nice: perfectly clean, warm, fairly large. But the two major features were the friendlyness of the staff and the absolutely stunning city views: 38th floor, looking north towards the skyscrapers of the financial district. Wow! So if you want to stay in Shanghai in a very nice hotel with helpful, friendly staff, good food and a convenient location, I dearly recommend the Purple Mountain Hotel.

Enjoyed this hotel again”

Great selection of restaurants right across the street
Free internet would be nice vs. the 100 RMB I was charged

The Purple Mountain is located in the financial district in Pudong so if you are doing business in that area this is a great hotel choice in the neighborhood. Access to the areas across the river is quick and easy, a 20-25 RMB cab ride will put you in the area of the Nanjing Rd Pedestrian area. I also recommend the subway in Shanghai, it's easy and inexpensive and now covers most of the city with 12 lines. You may want to avoid the subway during the weekday commuting hours as it gets extremely crowded. Value for the money is very good at the Purple Mountain. There is also building directly across from the entry to the hotel that has 3 floors full of restaurants, so everyone can find food they like very close.

Pudong oasis”

- fitness center - great views - clean, modern, well-appointed, cozy guest rooms - good location - close to Metro Line 2 - one of the best breakfast buffets anywhere
nothing

The Purple Mountain Hotel is a modern, comfortable and beautifully decorated hotel. You will feel very much at home in one of their rooms with views of Pudong. They have an outstanding breakfast buffet that is not overwhelming yet gives you lots of choice. There is a nice fitness center and pool. Good location - close to Metro Line 2 and walkable distance to the river.

nice hotel in Pudong district”

location

i always prefer to stay in the pudong area when i am in shanghai. the purple mountain is a good choice in this area. hotel is very nice with spacious rooms , bathroom is perfect , only the beds are a little hard , but for a few nights it is ok. although there are enough facilities , like a pool table , swimming pool and restairants in the hotel . i always prefer to go outdoors for dinner and entertainment after a working day.

Hotel I've been to many times and always satisfied”

wonderful breakfast

This was the 5th time I've stayed at Purple Mountain. It's well-located in Pudong for the exhibition center and there a tons of restaurants around the area. The hotel itself is 5-star worthy and has an excellent staff. That being said, one of our 3 rooms this time did leak water from a hard rain, and there was a moist smell when we arrived. They took good care of us with the incident though and we changed rooms promptly.

its clean, comfy and taxi drivers actually know where your hotel is, there is a building will 20 restaurants just opposite the hotel. very good location

hotel was actually in a very good area. hotel is clean and they make sure they actually make your room every day. very digigently. there are good places for shopping around the area as well. there are convenient shops, loads of places for food (shanghai specialities and other good food just opposite the hotel), and the staff is glad to assist you with whatever you need. the only bad point is that its actually quite far away from pudong international airport and it cost us about 180 yuan to get there. quite expensive i must say. other than that. i am really glad i stayed there and i would go back there again i must say

attentive staff

The hotel is located centrally in Pudong, shops and restaurants are just some strides away. The room is nice and has everything needed inside. However it is a bit small. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Definitivly a good idea, if you want to be in Pudong and nearby the Financial Center of Shanghai.

Great hotel”

Great location, truely 5 star hotel, clean, great decor, all rooms are 25 story up, good foods

The hotel is located at the heart of Pudong business district, where lots of restaurants, and bars are around the corner. It is 5-star hotel, very clean, great services, and great restaurants in the hotel. If you want to connect to PVG (Pudong airport), the hotel is at the best location. You can take a airport bus (one block from the hotel), or metro (2 blocks from the hotel, the metro connected to Maglev train to PVG), or take a taxi cab. My friend and I had a buffet lunch in the hotel. It was great, lots of variety in great quality. We all like it. The hotel had turndown service in the evening, which also made me feel very good about the hotel. The hotel is in the upper level of a business building, all the rooms are at 25-story to 41-story. Mine is at 38-story, which had a great view of the city. The decor of the hotel is very good too. I like the hotel very much.

LOCATION, SERVICE AND A BUFFET BREAKFAST SECOND TO NONE

I have been staying at this hotel every couple of months for 6 years and I have never had problem. Being a business traveller I know what to look for. The buffet breakfast is fantastic likewise the restaurants. The Duck Restaurant in particular is one of best in Shanghai. Close to the subway and the Pudong shopping district. Love the beds and love the bathroom towels. LAN internet is fast. For the business traveller this is a great base to work from in Shanghai.

Purple mountain Hotel Shanghai”

Nice 5 star hotel
none

This was the second time I stayed at the Purple Mountain Hotel in Shanghai. Luxery 5 star hotel with very nice rooms that have everything required for your stay. Unfortunately they do not have a free internet conection in the room ( 2 RMB per minute with a max of 100RMB /day). Location is OK , not to far from the subway , that will bring you to almost every interesting place in Shanghai. Very easy to get to and from the airport ( line 2 subway and the maglev). Have not used any restaurant in the hotel yet, maybe next time.

Great location, very clean and attentive staff”

I only had one day in Shanghai visiting suppliers and spent one night at this hotel. I requested a late check-out (14:00), which was promptly accepted and the staff was very polite and efficient. Next to the hotel, there was a plaza full of restaurants and a mall nearby. The MTR was also very near the hotel and they also provide shuttle to/from Pudong airport. I would definitely come back.

Great Service and Comfortable Rooms”

Great Service

This is my second time staying in this hotel and I am as satisfied as I was the last time. The hotel is relatively close to the exhibition centre that I was attending and close enough to the more happening area of Lujiazui at Pudong. I was especially pleased with the service as I brought along my laptop, mouse, but without a mousepad. However, without saying a word, the next day there was a mousepad under my mouse. I felt that such details goes to show the service level of the staff. Also the slip of paper that the housekeeping staff leaves on the table every night has the weather forecast for the next day is something you never thought of but is really grateful for.

Nice Pudong Hotel”

Great workout area, lots of good food options in a center just across the street, comfortable beds
Bathroom, specifically the tub/shower, was not as updated as some similarly rated properties

The Purple Mountain is a very nice hotel. The room I had was on the small side, but fine for my needs. The charge for internet access was slightly high, at 100 RMB per day. Most hotels I stay in in China provide it for free or at a lower cost than this. Location is great if you are doing business in the financial area in Pudong, and a 20 to 25 RBM cab ride will get you to the Bund area and Nanjing Rd. Shanghai's metro is now almost complete and that's also a good way to get around. There is a metro station an easy 10 minutes walk from the hotel.
