Hotel located at the center of city. Walking distance to most famous restaurant (chicken rice, Tau Fu Fah), but hotel is really old and noisy.

it was barely ok
location
location was nice, many food available nearby. Noisy at night because there's few pubs just a few doors away, poor sound insulation, you can hear people talking and vehicle pass by along the street. we also got woke up by the noise of knocking door upstairs. we booked 2 rooms. one of the room was spacious, another one was standard. tv was not functioning well. the condition in the room was very old fashioned (the floor, switches, fan, etc), so people who love antique feel will like the interior. two person at the counter only speak Cantonese (i think), and they didn't talk to us throughout the stay.

save yourself the trouble - stay elsewhere
the location
Very disappointed with this place. The room was very dated and looked and was dirty. Furniture was damaged and broken and the balcony was used as a storage for more junk. A/C was very old and had to be switched off during the night as it was making funny noises as if the electricity was going to put it on fire. Night receptionist couldn't speak English, but he was nice. Receptionist in the morning was very helpful and nice. The only good thing about this place is its location. This place was cheap, but I thought it was very dated and extremely dirty for my liking. There are clean and comfy cheap rooms as well. I would definitely not recommend or stay at this place again.

Worst hotel owner ever!
The pillows were comfy, you got your own toilet, quite cheap.
This couple of hotel owners are by far the worst I have ever come across. First of all we get there and the man writes down a figure what we have to pay so I say 'no we have already paid' he phones agoda and sees that I'm right so he waves is off with a grunt (no apology by the way) we get to our room and discover that we have a twin instead of the queen which we booked, there was also no tv (not that I was bothered about that but it did say it had one) and the shower most definitely did not have hot water and it was like trying to wash yourself under a tap it was that pathetic. The woman comes to our room about half an hour after we have checked in saying deposit (or what we think was deposit) over and over again and when we were trying to make hand gestures she just shakes her head like an idiot with a ignorant smile on her face. Now if you want to be a hotel owner and not speak any English that's fine, but don't come up to the room and start saying deposit and expect us to just give you some money which I know for a fact we wouldn't have gotten back. So at this point they had asked us for money twice in half an hour. I was so stressed out at this point and so so glad I had only booked 2 nights. I would have gladly left after 1 but as I said I'd already paid for it. So in case all this wasn't enough, the hotel is also in a noisy area. Noises through the night including and not limited to- cats fighting, unhinged men shouting a word ever 10 seconds for 5 minutes (that happened both nights) horrendous karaoke, traffic, people hacking up and other music and just in case they thought you might have gotten too much sleep there was also construction work in the morning to top it all off. I have never given a hotel a bad review before as I really do believe you get what you pay for and don't get me wrong this place is cheap but the owners were beyond terrible and made it a very unpleasant experience which I've never had before (and I've stayed in many hotels)

Old Town charm
budget, location
+ biggest room i had in my 4-cities Malaysia trip. i would imagine this is what a small Chinese apartment would look like back in the day. + has window + room was clean, had an older tv, hangers, chairs, drinking glasses, etc. + strategically located near 2 food areas, one is along Jalan Raja Musa Aziz the other in Jalan Sultan Ekram. also very near Ipoh Parade for shopping. - rooms could be updated a bit more. I slept with my light on as i had a feeling that something may crawl out of the tile work as I'm sleeping in the dark - isolated case, but I was rudely interrupted from sleep by one of the staff who confused my room with the one next to mine. i told him to wait for a minute while i put on something more decent but he kept impatiently knocking on the door, to my irritation. later when i went to the reception to check if there's any problem that's the only time when he confirmed his mistake.
