Well...”
Pros-large bed, huge fluffy towels, beautiful hotel,!!nuce welcome service Cons- a tad dark in the room as there's no real windows so sunlight isnt coming through. To go out from Chinatown is a huge hassle! Traffic is worse then New York. It took me an hour and a half from the airport. Major Annoyance- used their free taxi service to the airport and the driver was 15 mins late which is unacceptable considering you have to be there on time! At the airport then the taxi guy kept asking for money for the ride, I finally just walked away but the bantering kept on for ten minutes. Perhaps the hotel should use trusted drivers instead of con artists looking for more money.

Busy Chinatown, gem of a space”
Just as the pictures promised- gorgeous decor and open patio onto the busy streets of Chinatown. Our room was clean, quiet and comfortable.

Full of character”
Shanghai Mansion certainly gets points for style and standing out from the crowd. We were impressed from the minute we walked in, firstly with the decor but also the prompt and welcoming check-in service. I'd read some comments that the superior (=cheapest) rooms were very small, but it was big enough for the two of us, certainly for a couple of nights. The only downside of the size was that the bed was pushed up against the wall, so one person had to clamber over the other to get in and out of bed as there was a railing at the bottom preventing access. Also, this meant that side of the bed had no bedside table or light. Wifi was very patchy too, which was frustrating. Nice to have the free mini bar, but don't get too excited! It's a beer, a couple of soft drinks, crisps and Oreos. Nice thought though and the Oreos were appreciated! The location is a bonus, right in the heard of vibrant Chinatown.

Like being in a movie”
After seeing photos of this hotel I HAD to stay there. A lot of places don't live up to the photographs, but this one definitely does. Gorgeous hotel and rooms, very comfy. Great place to take portraits (I bought a cheongsam--Chinese gown--before my trip and had photos done in our room and in the lobbies. Even the elevators are beautiful. Loved the way the shower and toilet got their own separate doors, and the bathtub was dreamy and big. Nice toiletries in a cute makeup bag. Hot water and A/C were great. Free mini bar included one beer, one cola, one lime soda, a bag of Lays and a pack of 3 Oreos. Thorough, discreet room service. We didn't have a problem with the lock on the door--seemed safe enough. Besides, there are very few people ever walking around on the floors where your room is. Never saw a single pest, no cockroaches or flies or anything. Completely clear of that (had been nervous when reading reviews). Great English movie channels; so surreal watching Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom opening music sequence and feeling like I was IN it at the time. Location is not too far from Old Siam and the Grand Palace, closest to Hua Lamphong station (which is very convenient if you fly into DMK and want to take the local train straight there). Taxi should cost about 100THB or less to get from station to hotel--don't try to walk, it's too far. I splurged over 80 bucks a night for this place, wishing I'd reserved in advance and saved 20 or so. Great deal if you plan ahead. Staff was excellent and unobtrusive. Check in and out smooth. Only frustration was my husband and I had a hard time finding dinner we wanted in Chinatown. We've both lived in Asia for years so not terribly picky, but we're just not into fatty meats and tons of fried stuff. But that's a small issue, and we would definitely stay again. Thanks for a great few days, Shanghai Mansion!

Heritage / Boutique Hotel in Chinatown”
if you are looking for somewhere right in the middle of Chinatown and a walk away from old town BKK this is the best hotel to stay in. After all the walkabouts and through the dirt, hustle & bustle of the city, it is great to come back to this hotel for a good nights rest & a amazing Spa experience

Fantastic room, great value for money.”
Staff were very friendly, the room was really nice with an enormous bath. There was only one small issue with us being given information about it taking at least 3 hours to get to the airport, when it only took 25 minutes. Therefore we arrived far too early ( 4 hours) for our flight to Chiang Mai.
