I booked this hotel quickly and was pleasantly surprised. Out of the 5 hotels we stayed at on our trip, this was my favorite. It has a cool 1930s boutique vibe, there’s a top rated restaurant downstairs and it’s right in the street food action of Chinatown. It was also the cheapest hotel we booked overall and when we arrived I was pleasantly surprised by the free ‘daily experiences’ offered. Lastly, the entire staff was courteous at check-out, even when we made a snafu with our checkout time. I would definitely stay here again!

Wonderful experience! The staff provided amazing service and hospitality from the moment we checked in until we left. The cold scented towel and beverage upon check in were a great touch as the city was pretty humid during our stay. The staff really made us feel special as we celebrated our honeymoon.

No swimming pool that is to bad. Chinatown is one of the hottest places in Bangkok with I didn't know... very busy one you go out of the hotel. A must see but 1 evening will do ( for me ) metro not far away only 700 meter. 300 meter walk to the river.
Fabulous - again”
I’ve lived in Bangkok for a couple of years and this is my weekend get away retreat. I’ve been at least 4 times and recommend it to everyone. Fantastic rooms, spa, food and staff. Particularly Ruby in the bar/restaurant - she could not be more polite or helpful. Just fantastic.
We arrived at night. The hotel is right in the middle of Bangkok’s busy Chinatown - so to say the atmosphere was chaotic - is putting it mildly. However, after taking one step onto the property, we knew we had made a great choice. There was a jazz band playing in the lobby, a beautiful Koi pond that greets you, beautiful artwork and colorful comfortable sofas. The staff immediately brought us chilled lemongrass tea and cool wash cloths. The rooms were beautifully furnished and stocked with refreshing bath products. They offered free mini bar selections that were restocked daily. We booked spa treatments at the hotel that were wonderful. My therapist, Im Nana was amazing. The concierge staff were all equally well informed and helpful. If you don’t mind the hustle and chaos of staying in Chinatown, choose the Shanghai Mansion. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and soon we realized that having access to all of the food being sold on the street was actually a plus.
Every little detail”
I love boutique hotels and had high expectations. They exceeded on so many levels. Check in is on the sofa, not queued up at a desk. The amenities in the room are double normal hotel size and sooooo good. Food and drinks in Red Rose are delicious and reasonable. The bed was big and comfy with lots of pillows. Loved the sitting area, with plenty of room for my friends to relax and visit as well. To be perfectly honest, I would go back to Bangkok just to stay here again.
couldn't fault it would definitely stay again! ”
From the second my taxi stopped at the hotel I was treated like royalty from start to finish. Location is good hotel and facilities spot on staff cannot do enough for you. Will be staying again before I leave Thailand one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in and I like to stay in a lot of hotels. The attention detail in everything is fantastic value for money and would highly recommend to anyone
Bad choice. Go elsewhere ”
Cons- 1- very very dark room. I would say 20% bright. Can’t adjust lighting. Can’t pack and move around. 2- it was eerie! 1 queen size poster bed. With only 1 side to go up the bed. So if you are sleeping inside you hv to climb over your partner. . Very Low bed frame. Imagine lying there with pillows to prop up in very dark setting. Only 1 chair! . If u hv 2 luggages, you need to prop up your luggage elsewhere. We hv to change hopping up and down the room. Cause someone else is using the edge of the room. 3. A Birdcage in the shower room. My 9 years old girl was terrified of seeing 2 fake birds upside down in the cage. Scared her to bit. 4. Old wooden creepy door and the whole orangey red light made the whole room scary! 5. Hand washing area outside of toilet which is kind of funny. 6. No hooks etc for hanging clothes and stuff.. 7. Free 20mins massage was over in less 15 mins. Overall stay at own risk.! The very very dark room is not suitable for work or reading
Clean rooms, comfy bed, nice decor”
I really liked the vibe in Shanghai Mansion. It's colors and comfort level matched well with me. Every time I sat down it felt like home, or better than home. Plenty of good food options near and would recommend for stay.
Excellent hotel if you want to be in Chinatown for the vegetarian festival. Amazing interior design, it's like a Wong Kar Wai set. Only downside is the windows are stained glass so you can't see out of your bedroom and it's a bit dark.
A beautiful hotel ”
Pros.. every day an experience is offered. We had happy hour cocktails and high tea and walked around Chinatown with a guide. This is not a hotel to take kids. We booked with our child under Kids Stay Free.. but this is not true... our child slept in our bed and we paid extra for the experiences but the tour The hotel is beautiful and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Only one chair in room and we sat on bed which was covered around the sides so not easy if you have mobility problems. No windows or natural light. We had an air conditioner issue which kept us awake over night? We got moved the next day. If you can go here for the experiences alone and minus your kids as it is not geared to them.
Shanghai Mansion is a special kind of hotel. It is very unique and you have to be ready for that. The rooms have faux windows but are really fun and decorated in a special way. The location is in the heart of Bangkok near the Golden Buddha and some great Chinese food. If you are looking for the posh shopping area it is not too far away by car. It is also well located near river activities.
Nice place and very traditional”
Went for a solo and chose this hotel cause I have never really been to Chinatown of Bangkok despite visiting BKK so many times. Wanted to stay in the room with bathtub but I chose the wrong room.. (my bath bomb can't be used now hahaha). The staff was really very nice. The building is really beautiful and traditional. There's a lot of RED everywhere, so if you're afraid of that colour or has wild imagination about ghost, not recommended. haha. The location is in the central of the Chinatown area. Food is everywhere. About 15 min bike ride away from pratunam area. So if you focus is rest and relax and not to rush your days with shopping, this is a really good and nice place.
Chinatown experience that will make you feel like an Emperor”
I had the delight to stay in Shanghai Mansion Bangkok. The hotel and rooms were magnificent, the staff were very accommodating and friendly, overall it has been one of the best spent hotel i ever had in my life and i travel alot!
Cannot say enough good things”
Where do I begin. The room was amazing, such beautiful furniture and small details. The entire hotel is gorgeous. All the staff was so helpful and professional. We loved the Red Rose, it had such yummy food and spectacularly beautifully crafted cocktails, very IG picture worthy. This hotel did not disappoint in any way. My only thing to mention would be it is hard for taxi and tuktuk to find because the sign for the hotel does not stand out on the street well. It is in the heart of Chinatown so super convenient and nearby all the fun things to do, places to eat and drink, and shopping. We will definitely be returning here!!
Amazingly decorated hotel, helpful staff”
Situated in the middle of chinatown, this hotel was more than we could have hoped for ... beautiful rooms, really helpful staff and a great location. Just for informing: as a vegetarian i had a hard time finding food in Chinatown, but for everybody else this would be the perfect place as a base to explore the area .. also loved the 1930s Ambiente in the hotel
Fantastic little hotel, in a very busy district, room was a little small for our family ( 5 people) even so we booked the large family room and no outside windows made it feel even smaler , but this was a choice we made. Lots of attention to details ( soap, sleepers , complimentary bar). Food was nice and the interior decoration is out of this world. Beeing right in the middle of china town was so vibrant and so easy to get in and out of the busy streets.
location and exoctic decor”
unfortunately, I'm pretty disappointed with the bathroom. the water for the shower was either extremely hot or cold, even after adjusting accordingly, a few minutes later, the temperature of the water changes again. the lights were very dim, could hardly put on my make up, TV channels were blur, bed is soft and thin. having said these, the location is superb and the deocorations is simply beyond words.
Great location, comfortable rooms, tasteful decor”
Entering the hotel from the busy street is like entering another world. Walls are lined with old Chinese paintings and artifacts and it has a decadent retro feel that I loved. Staff was friendly and helpful, rooms were comfortable and tastefully decorated, though ours offered no view, and the location in the heart of Chinatown is hard to beat. At the entrance, The Red Rose offers great food, jazz, and a very good bar. The breakfast buffet was also very good. If you're planning on staying in Chinatown and you feel like trying something a little different, I recommend trying the Shanghai Mansion. You won't be disappointed.
Elaborate rooms for the price, excellent location; near river boats, Golden Buddha and great street food. Downside- their cocktails are not good; Otherwise, would return and recommend highly to friends and family
