Last time I visit that place ”
The guy at the reception was completely and utterly useless and unhelpful, it took him over an hour to check me in. When he finally managed with the help of his boss I go to the room and the disgusting guest had locked himself to smoke inside the room when there are signs everywhere of "no smoking", after I banged the door the stench of dirty feet and cigarettes was unbearable, in a room with no windows and the aircon at max. I went downstairs to complain to the incompetent guy and after another 20 minutes he told me he couldn't give me another room and he couldn't say anything to the guy because you know "that's normal for Chinese people". Being already over 12 pm and not having another place to go I had to overpay for another room.
The worst hostel in Shanghai”
Only plus is the location of this hostel. All other things are minuses. Not clean. Lobby without air conditional. Stuff dont know even how to say “Hello” on English. Very rude stuff. Rooms are not enough clean. Dirty toilets. On each floor are only 1 toilet and 1 shower. All hostel is very dark, because there are low quality lights. And they always try to economy electricity. They have laundry, but it is very expensive and out of service. So if you want to stay here 1 night, to see the center of Shanghai you can do it. But if mire, be careful. Because you will have very bad experience.
Awful & disgusting ”
It’s my 1st time in Shanghai, i was totally upset that the site booking offers such disgusting hostel, the photos and information on site did not reflect the reality of this hostel! I was there with a friend and both of us had the same feeling. This hotel was a real disaster -The room is really dirty and disgusting, all the furniture are very old and in a miserable condition ! -Blankets are dirty and smell very bad ! -The wc/shower is a disaster, toilet and shower are at the same place without any enclosure -No towels, tissues and any kind of cleaning products provided such as shampoo and body soap. -The walls and the roof of the room are damp !! To conclude, this hostel is really awful, dirty, disgusting, i don’t recommand this hostel because it’s unworthy for a human looking for the strict minimum of a clean room!! i’m absolutely sure that i will not come back there again !
Shanghaied in Shanghai”
I saw the picture of the skyline and booked it without hesitation. What a mistake that turned out to be. This place is a dump and not maintained at all. I even thought about looking for another room and eating the cost entirely.
This hostel is located in a prime spot, 5 mins from the Bund. However the staff doesn't speak English and can't help you at all. There are no guides or maps for the surrounding area. The rooms are tiny. Bathroom is very dirty and they do not clean it very well. People eat in the rooms which smell very bad. The beds are okay. I had a problem with my room door and got locked out all the time. The only reason I would ever stay here again is because of the location and price.
i had a 20 hour layover in shanghai, so this hotel was a great location for an inexpensive, temporary stay. i browsed around its nearby landmarks and walked around nanjing east road (a little far, but if you're a walker, it wouldn't be a problem). the staff (with glasses) is really, really nice & friendly and helpful with traveling places around that area. i had another 10 hour layover and the same staff let me hang around in the lobby until my flight. :)
Superb location, great service and best value!”
I had booked at Soho Bund for three nights but ended up staying two more... because of the reception guys. Pin Pin was so helpful! A great professional that was there to help me booking train tickets and give directions in Shanghai. The dorms were great as well. The staff cleaned them every morning and each bed has its own plug and individual lightening. My stay at Soho was great. Couldnt expect any more. Best hostel in China for me!
To be avoided!!”
The location is not bad but all the rest is! The staff doesn't speak english, there is a horrible smell in the rooms, there are cockroaches, there is not even a kitchen, only asian people are staying there and there is not respect at all for the other people in the room.
Single bedroom a good buy with private shower loft bed”
My fault wrong area nowhere close to Shanghai Expo Center for tire show Really not much in this area all large buildings a few small shops disappointed in area
Great stay, super central”
Hidden in a small street behind the Bund.. Super easy to walk the city around and still feel like in a village!
I'm familiar with low-range hostels, but I've never seen something so shabby. With its moldy wallpaper and its dirty sink, my windowless room gave me the feeling that I was in a creepy movie. I could sleep and escape from this nightmare, if only the bed was not as hard as rock.
Except for a downtown location, there's nothing to point out. The floor in a room was dirty, the room is old. WiFi almost doesn't exist. If you don't mind the things above and want to be near the Bund, then maybe.
valuable for budget ”
The guest house the price so cheap suitable for backpackers so close to The Bund just get off at International Cruise Terminal metro station line12 but the lobby guest house too hot because the has only one fan
Rooms crowded, very smoker friendly hostel”
I was only here for one night. I arrived and it took awhile for me to get checked in. Longest yet while I've traveled. My room was on top floor, with no life I had to carry my luggage up them tight stairs. I walked into the room I was given with a blast of smoke in my face, the two Chinese guys who been in that room have been smoking and it was over powering of cheap cigarettes. I went back down to reception and explaned that Im a none smoker and I would like to move rooms please. He didn't offer me straight away a new room he asked me to follow him and for him to tell them not to smoke. I mentioned it's too late now because it's already full of smoke and the room smells. It wasn't until someone stepped in and offered me a fresh room. Thisade me look at the reception area where there was another 4 men smoking in that area, I'm not sure if it is a smoking hostel or not, if I knew this I wouldn't have booked. The second room was same size as one before, the rooms are small with 3 x bunk beds, very tight squeeze I coulbt even fit my luggage in the room as there was othee people's luggage around. I went to the bath to freshen my face for bed and there was fag ends and ash all over the floor. I sense now that they don't have a policy around smoking in rooms/building! They have a roof terrace I was made aware of by the lad in the morning so why can't they use that area for smoking. I checked out and what I always ask for which is a tourist must is a map. Which they didn't have any to give. For being an international hostel I felt it didn't meet that title. Hopefully they think more of they customer experience then the ¥¥¥
It was, just barely OK”
Ok, so I stayed in the double bed room, not the dorms, so I can't comment on those. But it was on the fourth floor, and I had a big bag with me at the time, there's no lift so it was a bit of a pain. The room smelt pretty gross and the hot water was cut off in the morning. So my advice would be to shower before you go to bed, because you may not have the chance in the morning unless you're seriously manly. Staff spoke no English at all, didn't even understand the word Taxi, so don't rely on communication if you don't speak Mandarin. But it's in a pretty good location, about a 10-15 minute walk to the bund, and a 25 minute walk to Nanjing road. So not too bad, but yeah, don't expect luxury, but it is a backpackers hostel, so what do you expect?
an alternative place to stay”
from the outlook, the hostel is lively with a posh feel. But there are still much room for improvement, eg, the lighting is too dim, room overheated and the self-help kitchen is poorly equipped. Also the 24-hr music is too loud and unnecessary.
i have booked this hostel but didn't get to stay there due to the rearrangement by the hostel for us to stay in their associate hostel, ie @soho riverside international youth hostel. however, i was unhappy with their last minute notice which i only received upon arrival. my friends and i arrived at wee hours and yet we have to travel again to their associate hostel but the cab fare was borne by the hostel.
It makes me feel isolated, not a home of happiness. The crowd was extremely unfriendly and the staff treats you whenever necessary. No greeting is practiced.
1. Dishonest staff 2. Poor communication 3. Bad ambiance
Affordable and Good Location”
Fine and will surely go back.
