This is a stunning property. A bit older but the location, hotel and amenities are good. As expected with any Shang property, it is big and luxurious. It is also on the more expensive side. Over all it is a great hotel. However, a few hiccups, they did not clean the room properly. House keeping did not stow away the food and plates from the night’s service. They also failed to inform guests that breakfast is in another wing (there are 3 wings in the enormous property). Housekeeping is slow and questionable. Over all, it is a good place to bring the family. The Omani people are kind and hospitable. The staff aim to please but some are just lacking in common sense.
The resort is lovely for relaxing”
Nice place for relaxing due to its location away from the city with friendly staff, however i feel that the food prices there is exaggerated specially the seafood although Oman is known for its big fish market in the region.
Overall a good resort”
The hotel was in a lovely setting and the overall experience mainly due to service was good. The decor and the hotel product itself was very basic in fact not 5 star at all and very forgettable. The food was also below average. But generally the staff were friendly and hospitable and did a good job of creating good experiences for the guest.
You are far away from everything. so make sure you have a driver! Ask the hotel - they have some reasonable priced drivers for the day to take you out to see Wadi's and Nizwa. Resort is fantastic, staff amazing, great to relax.
O Man - what a holiday”
We had a fantastic stay at the Shang. We had a ground level pool room, which was so convenient to access throughout the day. The staff were incredibly accommodating, including helping us with the use the facilities after our check-out. The front desk attendant helped with printing of a visa and came to the taxi for a personal send-off.
Staffs are very accommodating from valet parking to reception, room service and amenities services. We feel like we are very welcome regardless of race. And the landscape and beach are amazing and don’t forget the Lazy River where you can definitely relax and unwind.
Brilliant hotel ”
The breakfast was great, probably one of the best breakfast served in the hotels I have been too before
After 12yrs, still beautiful and perfect stay”
There are three hotels at the Shangri-La (all close by - walking distance). We stayed at the Al Husn. Nothing to say except thank you to all the staff that made our stay memorable, once again. Great scenery, very romantic and great friendly staff.
The room was wonderful, and the food and facilities were perfect. However the check in and check out processes were a challenge. On check in we were told that our rooms were some distance apart, although we had requested adjoining as we are a family with two young children. Eventually it was resolved but it took a lot of effort. Check out was also a very slow process.
Nice hotel, not so nice food quality”
The hotel was very beautiful, in a very lovely location though far from the city and the closest supermarket is 15 mins drive but otherwise the scenery around the hotel is uniquely beautiful. The other BIG downside was the food at the hotel.. very poor quality and the onsite chiefs during the buffet dinners do not listen to your instructions about the way you like your food cooked. The food in the morning was nothing different.. tasteless and expensive.
great pool, location is a bit far”
The hotel comprise of three different sections; Al Waha, Al Bandar and Al Husn. We stayed in Al Waha, and we were able to use the pool in both Al Bandar and Al Waha. I'm not sure if it was the school holiday period (went 23-26 OCT 16) but there were lots of families with small children. If you prefer the quieter less rowdy atmosphere then I would recommend you stay in Al Husn as children are not allowed there (however its more expensive). The pools were clean, nice beach just in front of the resort with clear water. Taxi to and from the airport will cost 15 Rials, hotel taxis will be more expensive. Staff were very friendly and accommodating.
Caters to Families with Kids”
We loved the resort and all it had to offer for the kids. Complimentary water by the pools, kids eat free with adults (by the pool), great breakfast spread, quality lifeguards, good range of pools (lazy river, splash pad, 2 pools for kids and pools for swimmers), and green space. The only downs for us were the small and less than grand room and it was a way from town (so it wasn't convenient to do anything else than be at the resort). The shuttles only run 1 time per day to the mall and Mutrah Souq and it fills quickly. Other than that - amazing stay and we would do it again especially since it was perfect for our two young boys. If the kids are happy - parents are happy.
The highlight of this hotel is surely the location: surrounded by sand and clear water on the front. Really great everywhere you look around the hotel itself, with rocks, sand and water. The hotel is basically divided in 3 sections. We chose the mid-section called "Al Bandar" and by what we saw, we consider it better than "Al Waha" in terms of location, pool, and beachfront. In fact in this section there is a very nice lawn part that divides the pool from the beach, on which beach chairs are provide for you to relax. I mention these two sections because the third called "Al Husn" does not accept kids below 16 and our boy is less than 3 years old. If you are a couple you might like this section more. Everything is very relaxing, great weather and dry temperature. Can lay on the beach all day and swim in the sea too. We would go back here surely if back to Oman.
quite and easy ”
The hotel is located in isolated location beside the sea with mountains surrounding. everything is fine hotel location, food, staff, facilities and overall is wonderful. I suggest half board package will be much suitable for family and bed and breakfast for group to enjoy the rest of the food served in other restaurant available in the hotel, the overall price is reasonable.
Great family resort in a great location”
This is a massive resort consisting out of 3 different hotels. We stayed in the family-friendly "Al Waha". The hotels offers plenty of choices for children, with different pools, a lazy river, horse and camel rides on the beach and turtle hatchling releases form time to time. It is built along the coastline next to magnificent rock formations. There are also indoor activities for the kids for when it gets too hot. Excursions are available, we took the dolphin watching tour, highly recommended.
It was a nice stay at Shangri-La. The hotel is somehow built in a mountain that makes the location really unique. The beach is not that bad but it's also not the white sand you might imagine. However I was a bit disappointed... My expectation of a Shangri-La Hotel and the "premium" price I paid per night did not match. It started already with the lobby which does not really exist. The hotel is old as well as the facilities (e.g. pool). The breakfast was ok but also not that great. To be honest I would rate this hotel with only 4 stars. I can recommend the hotel more for families with kids who got a good deal on Agoda ;)
one of the " A must " experience”
If you have kids and you want a good place , go for al bandar hotel , If you want extreme relaxation and very quite environment Al husn would be the best choice , children under 12 yrs old are not allowed to al husn hotel , I spent 2 nights in al bandar and 2 in al husn , It was really relaxing and i enjoyed it so much , the service is always with a smile and courtsey , The only downside is the price of the room and the food , they were a bit expensive
Amazing romantic getaway”
We spent 3 nights at the Shang (Al Husn) to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It's an absolutely spectacular location, with the Arabian sea on one side and stark mountains (hills?) on the other. Al Husn doesn't allow kids, so that's a definite advantage for a romantic weekend. Quality of the food was excellent and Al Husn includes a lot of freebies (minibar, happy hour, afternoon tea) which make for a nice touch. It's not cheap, but it's worth the money. Pool area is great and the beach is private for Al Husn only. I would definitely recommend!
Excellent stay, would definitely come back to it!”
I stayed in Shangri-La for one night. it was a lot of fun especially if you are travelling with kids, there is plenty of activities to be done. The dinner at Al-Tandoor was superb and the breakfast was having variety of choices. The check-inn and out was quick. The room service was good and the WIFI was available in and out of the rooms. i would definitely recommended!
one of the best shangri-la hotels i have stayed at”
Would highly recommend for a family stay. One of the best hotels i have stayed in in the middle east region. Next to a diving center , so if you are into sports , do bring your gear with you. Try to get a room facing the beach.
Free Wi-Fi in all rooms!
