Excellent 5 Star Property in the heart of Bangkok!”

Location, hospitality, Club Horizon, Executive Suite Room

Our stay in Bangkok was a short mini vacation to enjoy some sightseeing and shopping. We booked The Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok after reading the reviews and the hotel is absolutely breathtaking. Hidden inside the bustling area of the city, within walking distance of the small shops and day spas, it was exactly what we were looking for. It is located along the river and from our executive suite room, it was a was a fabulous view. Our package included access to the Horizon Club (where breakfast, all day drinks, evening canapes were served and a delightful private area to just relax) and daily buffet breakfast at the hotel's restaurant. Our room was spacious, with separate living area and full bedroom with king size bed. There were luxurious L'Occitane toiletries provided. Customer service was impeccable as the hotel staff were extremely polite and helpful. There is also a complimentary boat ride to the River City Walk Mall and a night market. The buffet was plentiful, although there was no authentic Thai food served, but American, Chinese and Japanese buffet items, the usual fare served at buffets. The hotel gym was being renovated but the hotel provided an adequate substitute facility in the adjacent wing. Also, I found transportation provided by the hotel was quite pricey at 2700BHT; we took a metered regular taxi from the airport and with tolls amounted 4-450 with tip and to the airport amounted to 500 with tip. Taxi vans are a little more at 600. Taxis taking you around the city may try to coerce you into trying a tour or 2; the drivers have sponsors to take you to their shop or travel agency; we experienced this while we were there. The driver was actually nice though so we agreed and actually the souvenir place was very reasonable. We would definitely return to The Shangri-La when in Bangkok again.

Two nights of Bliss”

The Staff …. The peace and quite…The Staff…

Our Stay was delightful . I decided to book the Shangri-la wing deluxe river view room and during the booking process I was offered an upgrade to The Krungthep Wing for less then $1.00 extra. Not sure if that was an offer from Agoda Or Shangri-la. Whoever was responsible for that (thank you) and to be fair I do not know what a room in the Shangri-la wing was like to make a comparison but I’m fairly sure it was a good deal. We were staying at the Shangri-la looking for peace and quite after a hectic few months arranging our wedding (actually hectic for the wife) So this was to be a treat and time to rest. While checking in staff realised that we were just married and they went that bit extra, complementary chocolates delivered to the room and the next day they went that bit further with added decorations to the room . The Concierge (day shift) gets a special mention very helpful soft spoken and dressed impeccably. The room was excellent and the View could not be any better over the river in Bangkok. Food was excellent To call this Hotel 5 star is appropriate But the staff are 5 Star ++++ I can’t fault The Krungthep Wing of the Shangri-la Bangkok for old world charm and service . A very nice place to stay.

Great views of the river and city from the balcony”

Corner room with king bed with large windows in the bathroom, bedroom with sofa, and sliding door onto large balcony

We upgraded our Deluxe City view room for a river view with balcony in the Shangri-La Wing for about 900 Thai bhat more nightly. It was definitely worth the extra expense as we were in Bangkok for the Loy Krathong festival. The festival is along the Chao Phraya River and includes lighted boats on the river, fireworks, and candlelit lanterns floating in the sky and in the river. The view from our corner room was great, we could see all of the activities and even some of the hotel show that was in the pool area. The room had a sofa built in alcove with a bay window on the wall opposite the bed, the sliding patio door adjacent to the bed, and a large bay window in the bathroom above the tub. The bathroom was large with a double sink vanity and a glass enclosed stall shower. There were complimentary bottles of drinking water and topical fruits daily. The hotel also offered a free boat shuttle to and from the River City shopping center but it is only avaiable on a schedule. The Shangri-La Hotel was an excellent choice and one block to the Sky Train (Saphan Taksin station) which is the public transit system above ground is fast, convenient and inexpensive (34 to 42 Thai baht/person/one-way). The streets in Bangkok are so congested by car at peak traffic hours that it is quicker to walk, take the sky train or Chao Praya Express boats. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Shangri-La Bangkok, definitely a 5 star in the top 3 great hotels in Bangkok.

extraordinary caring staff made a huge difference”

it's a family vacation i brought for my parents and it's our first time to stay in Shangri La Bangkok. It's also the first time for my parents to travel to thailand as they live in Toronto, so i picked a classic evergreen brand. I would say the neighborhood is not around the big shopping malls. if you re looking for the modern brand new hotel, this's not the one u'll be impressed. But the amazing staff of the hotel is something made my parents who re in their late sixty super happy during the whole stay and they re still keep on saying it's an extremely great hotel. My father cannot walk properly due to knees problem. The concierge, the main lobby staff re extraordinary kind and caring with friendly and polite attitude always. The whole hotel team are treating their guests with heart. Their initiative to care people and guests is something we treasured and we appreicated the most, made my parents feel like going back to their home. The room is very spacious with a nice balcony facing the river, very clean and bright, nice house keeping. Very good breakfast with variety of food, even the fresh honeycomb. A clean big gym with 24hours access equipped with new machines, of cuz the Chi Spa is something i like a lot. The complimentary shuttle boat to the Asiatique and the last boat is @11.30pm is something we like very much also. I booked 3 nights at the beginning thinking to let my parents to choose another hotel for the rest of the trip, but as we re being treated so good that we extend to stay in the same hotel. Without hesitation and second thought, we'll definitely come back to stay here in our next trip in bangkok. and the last words, salute to the front staff, the management team and those working at the back in the group of Shangri La. You re the one to give us a wonderful trip. I feel great to see my parents re so happy in your hotel. Million thanks.

Wow what a hotel”

Comfort, food & Staff

If you want to stay in one of the best hotels on offer in Bangkok you need to stay here. From the moment you are greeted, you know this is going to be something special, the staff are so attentive you can't fail to relax. As soon as you exit you taxi you are made to feel special, the staff are sincere when they say welcome. You enter the hotel and the opulence and splendour of the hotel hits you, breathtaking. Once booked in you are escorted to your room. Everything is explained to you by one of the beautiful receptionist, our butler was then introduced to us and then your left to look around. You have a balcony which looks over the river (I wouldn't want to swim in it) and Bangkok city. The room is beautiful, the non-alcoholic drinks in your mini-bar are free and endless. Obviously if you want an alcoholic drink they are readily available. The bathroom has a full bath, separate shower, bidet, toilet and sink. Soaps, creams, shower gel, shampoo, shower cap, toothbrush, toothpaste etc. etc. all available at no cost. The bed is super king in size and comfortable with it - 5 Star. The drapes are power driven at a touch of a button, the mood of the room can be arranged by the various lights available. His & Her bathrobes, plus matching slippers hang in the cupboard at your convenience. One criticism - there isn't sufficient drawer space for two people to use, The complimentary breakfast is ample as is the afternoon tea and canopies, followed by evening cocktails. Two pools are on offer for the residents of the Shangri-La Krungthep Wing, complimentary non alcoholic drinks are available throughout the day by the Krungthep Wing pool. You can choose to lounge around the Main pool if you wish, but the only free beverage here is water. However this is where the sun is shinning for most of the day (Obviously not if it's raining) Whereas the Krungthep Wing pool is shaded and has pockets of sunshine throughout the day. What can I say - This is place the place to stay!

The BEST Hotel in Bangkok”

I highly recommend to book this hotel. I stayed for 4days at this accomodation, but I didn't have any complains. Reason. 1. Best Breakfast - It makes you wake up early. Don't skip and forget it. It is FANTASTIC and LOVELY every morning. 2. Location - easy to get subway and boat within 5mins by walk. Moreover, the hotel has fabulous river view on the side. 3. Nice Staff - Every Staff is So Nice, Kind and Gentle. 4. Facilities - Room is classic, but really clean and well organized. Also, there are everything what I want. 5. Swimming pool - There are 2 swimming pools in hotel. If you stay at Crontab wing, Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok, you could use both of pools for whole day. I really hope you also book this hotel for your valuable vacation with your precious partners or families in Bangkok which is one of the most fantastic city in the world.

Exciting city, fabulous hotel”

Beauty, Service and Location

Our stay at the Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok was outstanding. This is the fifth time we have stayed at this hotel and we keep coming back. It is expensive but you get what you pay for. The food, service, room and additional services such as the river taxis and gymnasium make this hotel a must have on your favorites list. Bangkok is an amazing city but you need a safe haven to return to at the end of the day and a peaceful place to recharge for those times that you want to just sit around the pool and relax. The Shangri-La Bangkok will make you never want to leave and count the days till you return. Absolutely loved our time here.

Absolutely 5 star!!! Krungthep Wing! ”

So much free stuff. Great breakfast, high tea, drinks, canapes! Awesome Location

the shangri-la bangkok was the nicest hotel we stayed at on our 2-week honeymoon in thailand. it was undoubtedly 5-star. such a great value. pros: 1) free stuff! you must stay in the krungthep wing- it's a bit older and detached, but it is extremely nice and closer to the skytrain and river taxi. and they have so many free things, it's unbelievable. free amazing breakfast, free high tea and snacks, free soft drinks and juice and cookies in the room, free drinks and canapes in the evening. i mean, really, we didn't have to pay for food or drinks the whole time we were here. it was so nice sitting out by the pool, overlooking the river in the evening and drinking free drinks and eating free canapes. sounds like a small thing, but it was huge. 2) friendly, attentive staff. 5-star. 3) clean, elegant, luxurious, nice music playing, i mean this place absolutely felt like luxury. 4) value- you couldn't get this kind of service and value in the states for this price. unbelieveable value. 5) great workout facilities and pool. 6) absolute best location in bangkok. steps away from the river taxi and sky train, and being on the river is so nice in the evening. cons: none. i could go on and on about this hotel, it was truly wonderful.

Lovely room in an excellent location.”

The size of the Executive Suite was impressive, as was the free 'happy hour' cocktails in the Horizon Lounge. The location was excellent.

we really enjoyed our stay at the shangri-la hotel in bangkok. it is our second time in bangkok, the first time we stayed closer to the mbk shopping centre and so the riverside area was a welcome change. it is a very large hotel, so we felt slightly like a number, but the facilities are very good. the pool was crowded so we didn't go swimming. the river shuttle service leaves every half an hour and is very good. the 'river city' shopping centre is a waste of time though. in all i'd recommend the 'shangri-la.'

Pamper time in Bangkok for early check in”

We booked the Shangri-la for its great location but chose the lounge club as we were arriving on a long haul flight from Europe which landed mid morning. The lounge club has its own check in and we were offered refreshments while we waited a very short time while our room was prepared. After sightseeing via the adjacent River Ferry system we joined the complimentary early evening buffet. Free drinks were included and to be honest the buffet may have been enough for the evening particularly after travelling. However the staff had managed to book us late on the Horizon dinner cruise. The cruise gave us a wonderful armchair view of Bangkok and some good food at a reasonable cost. After a wonderful nights sleep in a lovely room, we then had a great breakfast included in the price before heading off for our Myanmar adventure. Excellent service from very accommodating staff. The metered taxi from the airport used the expressway and got us to the hotel in less than 40 min and charged less than 450 baht all in ( only £12) so the hotel location is surprisingly accessible. All worth the money in the circumstances.

Shangri-La Hotel”

Location Location Location

I could have said Service Service Service. The staff at the Shangri-La is always helpful and never snooty. We felt truly welcome all the time. Helpful always and so charming. We have stayed at the Oriental and the Sukothai which we loved as well but there is something about the Shanri-La and its easy access to the skytrain and the river boats that I especially liked. Loved working out in the fitness room over looking the river. I love that River. Also loved the Spa facility; Jacuzzi, Steamroom and Sauna. We are seasoned travelers and have stayed in every sort of accomodation around the world. High End and Low End. Booking our room with its luxurious view of the river with Agoda made such deluxe quarters affordable. We agreed to always use Agoda's services when in SE Asia and always try for a room at the Shangri-La. Thank You Shangri-La and Thank You Agoda. Thank You Bangkok.

Perfect location, excellent hotel in every way”

Location, good selection of restaurants, very good to excellent food, excellent ambiance, very good service, on the river, excellent spa, lovely pool although fairly crowded all day

my son and i stayed at the shangri-la in bangkok for two days and it was a completely enjoyable experience from start to finish. the location is perfect for sightseeing as many of the temple complexes are accessible from the river and the hotel is located next door to both the central pier and the sky train. the sky train provides a fair bit of access to the interior of the city and runs straight through the heart of the silom entertainment and shopping district. the views of the river are also lovely and when the place is lit up at night and one can see the illuminated boats on the river, it is a spectacular sight. the hotel is beautifully decorated with an interesting combination of thai heritage accents and modern that works. the rooms are a comfortable size, elegantly furnished with a built-in couch in the window and fabulous bathrooms. the toiletries are good quality and the towels thick, absorbent, and like new. the entire hotel is immaculate and in excellent condition. the italian restaurant is modern, yet comfortable, but spread over 3 stories and involves stairs unless you know which level to enter. all of the food was well-prepared with the exception of the gnochetti which was unremarkable. the cheese plate was excellent. the thai restaurant is in a beautiful heritage-style complex on water's edge and the food was good. cocktails in both restaurants were imaginative and well-prepared. the service was very good. the spa is especially lovely and the thai massage was excellent. the ambiance is worth the trip to the spa alone. the pool is right next to the river's edge and very inviting, but it was full both days we were there and we just decided to skip it this time. there is a more exclusive wing on the hotel with its own pool, but it is a simple rectangular pool and didn't seem to be available to all the guests. the hotel shops are lovely, but expensive, and we didn't buy anything. we would definitely stay here again.

Everything about this hotel speaks class
None I could find but, then I was not looking

I stayed at her sister hotel in Singapore only the day before on business. My business brought me to Bangkok so I cancelled another hotel reservation to stay here. I also flew my wife up to join me for a holiday of sorts. The Shangri-La, Bangkok is simply fantastic and well worth the visit. We would definitely recommend it to other travellers. We stayed in the Krungthep wing and had a wonderful river view at night. Although on business we had an excellent time, the facilities, staff and service of the hotel has to be experienced. The pool and dinning facilities within the hotel were excellent. The sky train and river ferry service is just outside the hotel, therefore making it extremely easy to move around this very busy city. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and intend to come back next year.

As expected, the Shangri-la hotel was a very high quality hotel. The rooms were gorgeous and comfortable. The location is ideal as you can get to the skytrain just outside the hotel. The best part by far is the pool area. Bangkok in March can be sweltering so having this nice resort-like pool area to retire to in the afternoon was excellent. The only thing I was disappointed with was that there was no breakfast included in the price we paid. For the amount of money and the fact that most hotels provide breakfast, I was disappointed to learn that breakfast was an additional cost.

Solace in urban stress!”

Hospitality, beauty, like home away from home!

Shangri-La is the ultimate way to wind down while in Bangkok! The stress just runs off when you enter the hotel and it really is like being home away from home! Perhaps better than your own home! Great service! Amazing breakfast buffé! Excellent location near the river and near the Skytrain which takes you where you need to go and avoid traffic jams. The design of the hotel makes you just love being in the hotel and really, if you are staying there - why even venture into downtown Bangkok? In the evenings staff will even arrange your bed for you, preparing for nighttime, has to be experienced! I love just hanging out at the pool, or working from the lobby (wifi internet all over). Or doing some workout in the great gym! On the day you check out you will have access to the gym in case you want to take a bubblebath and change yourself before heading to the airport!

Very relaxing hotel with excellent service ”

considerate staff, Swimming pool and complimentary river shuttle bus service

This is my first time to stay with Shangri-la groups' hotel. I know understand why it is regarded as high quality brand ! Start from we enter the hotel, the staff are always wearing their smile. This Shangri-la hotel has two wings. We went to the wrong wings and the staff prepared a limousine to drive us to the correct wings ! Very impressive !! I wouldn't say that the room is excellent but it is of course above the normal standard. I love the swimming pool, it is surrounded by a very relaxing atmosphere and the staff are very attentive. The hotel is at the riverside and there is complimentary shuttle boat available for guests to travel to shopping mall and night market ! very nice experience. I would certainly recommend this hotel to my friends and relatives.

Perfection with quality Customer Service”

Customer Service, Free Wifi and great roomview

Normally when I have stayed at a large 5* hotel you always got the feeling you were just a number. From my experience at the Shangri-La this was not the case. I had excellent communication prior to my visit and arranged an airport transfer (they have free wifi in the car - just awesome). On arrival I was met by a Guest Relations Officer called Champoo - she was simply excellent and a credit to the hotel. Talked and walked us through the hotel and answered all our queries with a smile and it felt she genuinely cared about our stay. Check in and out was swift and Champoo also checked on us the next day to see if everything was ok. A truly lovely touch. On my final night I went down to the lobby lounge and after 12 days in Thailand had an upset stomach. I asked the assistant at the lounge (Sukanya) if they could make me some tomato soup (even though it was not in the menu) - Sukanya went out of her way and ensured I received it. Another one that is an asset to the hotel. The breakfast is truly amazing, the wifi is free in all areas and no need for a password. We had a Deluxe River view room and especially during sunset, the views of Bangkok are amazing. As we had an early morning flight they arranged a breakfast box for us to take to the airport. Just simply a great stay at a great hotel with great staff, especially Champoo and Sukanya.

Amazing service and value for money”

Krupthep Wing, great rooms and suites with butler service

We had booked a Krupthep Wing Deluxe Balcony room but where upgraded to a Krupthep Suite, a huge 85 square metres room with 2 terraces, 2 bathrooms, 2 big flat screen tvs etc. The Krupthep Wing rooms include a butler service, which among other things provide you with free daily drinks and canapés, free pressing of 2 garments etc. The Krupthep rooms includes complimentary breakfast and afternoon tea which is served in the breakfast restaurant. Bare in mind that there is a dress code so you might want to avoid shorts and flip-flops for breakfast and tea-service. Two pool areas, one exclusively for Krupthep guests which I imagine can be nice during high-season, when we were there there were plently of free sunbeds at both pool areas. No location in Bangkok is perfect as everything is a bit far, but then again taxis are extremely cheap. The Shangri La provides great view of the river, but is also conveniantly located in the middle so that you can access both the big shopping malls and the old parts of town/palace etc without too much hassle. Overall our stay was extremely pleasant, and we will gladly return for our next visit in Bangkok.

Nice stay on the river!”

Our usual boutique hotel that we normally stay and on the Chao Phraya River was booked. I don't normally like to stay in really large hotels but I thought I would give the Shangri-La a try . My mother was traveling with us and so we had two rooms. And one of her favorite things is to sit in the morning and watch the traffic on the river and the big balcony at the Shangri-La hotel was perfect for this Another item very important to all of us is a great pool by the river but we can also see what's going on and feel the magic of it. The third thing that's very important to us is a great location. The Shangri-La hotel is located on the Chao Phraya river next to an express boat stop on the river and right under a BTS sky train stop. We got a corner room that had a balcony and a sofa with a window looking out onto the river as well as the window by the bathtub where you could take a bath with a view! We really enjoyed the room.

Great location, maybe due for a re-furb?”

The views, the gardens, the location in Bangkok

Don't get me wrong, we had a great time at the Shangri-La, but in Bangkok which has some of the best hotels in the world, the bar for judging 5 stars is very high. The Shangri-La is beginning to show its age, especially in the Chao Praya Wing, which houses the upgrade rooms - lovely balconies, great views, but just a tiny bit old-fashioned and the bathrooms seeming to need regrouting and upgrading; the lobby of the Chao Praya Wing is utterly devoid of any atmosphere at all - a huge wasted opportunity. The beds were very comfortable, gorgeous down pillows. Breakfast was included in our deal and was a magnificent buffet with everything you could think of. The bar snacks we had in the evening, though, were horrid - greasy chewy overdone fried squid and soggy spring rolls. I'm sure they can do much better than that. Good cocktails, though. The service was excellent, the concierge especially helpful. So, a good stay, but I don't think I'd go back until they have refurbished.
