Located on Chang Klan Road, Shangri La Hotel Chiang Mai in the Thai town of Chiang Mai is just minutes away from the famous Night Market. A short tuk-tuk ride will take you to the various temples and restaurants as well as the Sunday Market, but with the pleasant weather you won't mind walking either. The two dining facilities on-site serve Thai, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, as well as European cuisine to please all tastes. A trip to the spa is a must, and if time is not a constraint, you should definitely pick a package treatment. In addition, the fitness center, unlike most found at other hotels, offers weekend workout classes. The two meeting rooms and the business center will appeal to the executive who wants to keep in touch with work. Shangri La Hotel Chiang Mai is perfect for both leisure, as well as business travelers, with a range of facilities to please to either group.

It was love at first sight”
From the moment we arrived at the Shangri-la in Chiang Mai we were made to feel at home. The staff greeted us, showed us to our room & spent the next two weeks treating us like family. I use the term family in the most sincere & respectful way. We booked ourselves into the horizon club & what we got was to say the least a very pleasant surprise, a sumptuous lounge to chill out in with light refreshments all day long, in the evening, happy hour, offers an assortment of first class canope's along with quality beverages. Breakfast & the in house dinning are also of the highest quality & very well priced if your budget concious or food phobic. Another surprise was the gym, this place has by far the best gym I have ever seen in a hotel. We managed to carry on our usual training routine without any short comings. The gym has ample cardio equipment in a couple of cross trainers, four running machines & a stepper. As for the weights section, they have free dumbells from 1 Kg. upto 30 Kg. a wide assortment of life fitness pin loaded machines that would cover most body parts & the bonus & my favourite was the hammer strength smith machine with a hundred kilos of plates. Yes were gym junkies & yes this made the Shangri la Chiang Mai our home away from home. The room? oh yes the room. We stayed in the horizon club deluxe room, it was a good sized room, it was tastefully decorated well appointed & spotlessly clean. Over the course of the two weeks that we stayed at the Shangri La, we made friends with many of the staff, we met & chatted to the GM & we saw in these people a passion for the work that they did. Chiang Mai & the Shangri La are both very high on our must do list for the not to distant future, I recommend you consider it for your next vacation or business convention.
Wonderful staff and service! ”
shangri-la helped to make our week stay in chiang mai very comfortable. make sure you book a room in the horizon club because their lounge offers free breakfast as well as a hosted happy hour with desserts and drinks. they also have their own concierge service as well as private check-in/out. the staff, especially george at the horizon club, ensured a comfortable and luxurious stay. he even remembered what we ordered for breakfast each morning and was able to book and recommend tours for us. the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. the rooms are comfortable although not necessarily the most romantic and the beds are a pretty firm. the spa is absolutely amazing! they used reflexology and pressure points as well as a questionnaire on our moods and tailored the massage to us. will definitely stay at the shangri-la again when we are back in chiang mai. as a side note, we stayed at the chedi one night to compare and were not very happy with it at all(although a romantic hotel, there were mosquitos everywhere due to its location on the river and loud noises in the courtyard). did not regret our week stay at the shangri-la.
A touch of class in Chiang Mai - the Shangri-La”
the shangri la hotel is in just the right place. walking distance from one of chiang mai's numerous street markets, lots of restaurants and set back from the road thereby muting the traffic noise. it's an airy, spacious, graceful place with lots of elephant carvings. kids can't use the gym. the buffets are sumptuous. i'd suggest the sunday brunch. budget for 600 baht and three hours of slow indulgence. it's very child friendly - staff repeatedly ruffle your kids hair which annoys them and then smile lovingly and take photos of them. for a five star hotel it is a very economical option. when i'm back in chiang mai, i'll be back in shangri-la
Lovely hotel with good, user-friendly amenities”
The staff of Shangri-la Hotel were the best part of our experience. Ever thoughtful and friendly, they always served with a smile. Our request for a connecting room was kindly accommodated. Although the rooms' carpets seemed ever-so slightly worn out, we were easily won over by the thoughtful and user-friendly features of the rooms and amenities. We stayed at a new boutique-style hotel right after Shangri-la and found ourselves missing the little but essential touches that was found at SL but not at the minimalist-style boutique. We hope to stay at Shangri-la again if we get to visit Chiang Mai during the Loy Krathong festival in 2013. Thank you for contributing to our wonderful family trip.
This is the Place to Stay in Chiang Mai”
This hotel is excellent and I would recommend it to anyone traveling to Chiang Mai. "Phuee" the concierge in the Club Delux lounge was very professional, courteous, helpful, and friendly. She went out of her way to ensure that my needs were met (assiting with directions, maps, and booking a taxi back to the airport). The location is good, and the service was top notch. I can't say enough about the Shangri La Chiang Mai. The room was beautiful and I had a great view from my 10th floor room. Definitley stay here when in Chiang Mai. Best of all, they are Bachelor Freindly and will not gouge you for 1000 BHT to bring a guest to your room. Show some class and be discreet and respectful and this place will by your home away from home when in Chiang Mai!
Shangri La Club Horizon. good deal.”
My family and I stayed 7 nights in Chiang mai. Due to room availability issues we had to book 4 nights at the Shangri La and 3 at the Chedi so it was a good opportunity to compare those 2 high quality establishments. I had no clue about the difference between standards room and Club Horizon. So briefly it is a kind of VIP section in the hotel ( 3 last floors) which offers additional complementary services. Some may be appealing for business visitors (free use of the business centre services, free cleaning of one set of suit..). Other than that you can enjoy your breakfast on the 12th floor with a nice view on the swimming pool. It is quieter that the second floor where everybody else goes for breakfast. Aside for the standard selection of breakfast items you get to pick some “a la carte” items from the menu. The other extra service that we really appreciated is the so called happy hour which is in fact a mini buffet with drinks and foods. only small things but all quite good and honestly you can make your diner out of it. the happy hour is from 17.30 to 19.30. The rooms were ‘standard’ nice. And by standard I don’t mean anything bad, I just mean that it was exactly what you can expect from a luxury chain hotel. Enough space, everything you need in it, very good windows so even if you face the street there is no noise at all. Great bathroom, the shower had huge water pressure which feels great. Great bed and pillows. free extra bed for our daughter.. The only bad thing i could say would be that it had no special touch, just plain standard. Great huge swimming pool where you can consider spend the whole day relaxing. Big jaccuzzi on the side. Very kids friendly. Conclusion. everything up to standard. Ok if you are more into boutique hotels , with everything very sophisticated then you may find this hotel a bit outdated, but in our case we realized it was what we needed.
Very good rooms excellent service”
The reason was to visit Chiang Mai and we did good in staying at Shangri-La hotel. The service provided at restaurant, lobby etc, was excellent. As for the resting, it was very nice in every area we walked through; garden, restaurant, lobby, services, etc. One thing we always like about Shangri-La Hotels is the pleasant feeling of a relax and comfortable ambient. When requesting info on the city, we got immediate answers and support from your staff, thank you to them. The room itself was also excellent, comfortable and very well kept. Our sincere Congratulations to all the staff there.
Memorable and Relaxing”
Highly regret that my review must be honest and that it may lead to more people staying there, but the truth is that the hotel is a hidden gem and while more costly than some in Chiang Mai, worth every penny. We will stay there again . . .and again, for as long as they continue to provide the quality we had during our recent visit. For those familiar with Shangri la hotels in Thailand, this was much better than the Shangri la Bangkok in every area.
Everything you'd expect from a 5 star hotel!”
i can't say anything bad about the shangri-la hotel! we were greeted with smiles at 8am in the morning when we checked in and they had a room available for us right away. the concierge was extremely helpful in various situations such as restaurant recommendations (local/authentic thai priced places), calling the cooking school for us when they didn't pick us up in time, arranging emergency airport transportation when we weren't able to check in earlier. they didn't flinch when we asked them to hold our luggage and put stuff into their safety deposit box when we left for an overnight trip to chiang rai. it was amazing that with such a large hotel, they were able to remember details of our itinerary as we would come back and they'd inquire how our tour/cooking class/walking market was. rooms were so spacious and clean - best sleep of our trip!
Shangri La Chiang Mai”
From the moment we arrived until the time we left the Shangri La in Chiang Maidelivered above our expectations. We were fortunate enough to be staying in the Horizon Club levels and were treated fantastically well. The Horizon Club Manager, a Chelsea Supporter Club member, was particularly worthy of mention as her engaging smile was outshone only be her helpfulness and knowledge. Staff generally were of a very high standard and reminded us of the old addage, 'if you want good staff hire nice people'. Shangri La have certainly got that right! The food, either as snacks, afternoon teas, or dinner at night, was excellent and we were happy to try some of everything. Highly recommend the hotel and also recommend booking via Agoda as the prices we were able to obtain could not be matched by the hotel themselves. Definately worth a visit.
Great stay!”
Great stay in Chiang Mai. The hotel is fantastic - very clean and beautifully designed. Pool area was amazing and what was even better was the little extra touch of a constantly filled up large jug of ice cold water. Location is great - away from the hustle and bustle of Chinag Mai nigh market area, yet 5/10 minutes walk. The benefits of booking the Horizon club lounge access was well worth the extra we paid for the stay. Great breakfasts, nibbles (hot and cold) throughout the day and happy hour where you can obtain alcoholic drinks free of charge between 5.30 -7.30pm. Would definitely book this again and would for sure stay at the Shangri-La. Highly recommended.
Great hotel and great service”
We loved our stay at the Shangri-La. The service was fantastic and the hotel was very nice. We were there over Christmas and the hotel did a great job of making it feel Christmasy. They had Christmas carolers, lights, trees, and other decorations that really added a special touch. The only thing I noticed was that the rooms felt slightly dated but nothing bad. We decided the rooms made the room still feel like we were in Asia rather than some Western hotel...which is sometimes nice. Otherwise it is a great hotel and we will most definitely be staying there on our next trip to Chiang Mai.
Lovely hotel with excellent services!”
Shangri-La Hotel Chiang Mai was one of the best hotel I've stayed at! Services delivered by staff were excellent, rooms were big, beautiful pool and very convenient location to the night bazaar and other sights! Will definitely stay at this hotel again if I come back to Chiang Mai and certainly recommend it to all my friends!
Shangri La - great spot, service and hotel”
The hotel is well positioned within a short walk to the night market, one of the main attractions of Chiang Mai. There are better positioned hotels in Chiang Mai however they are not at the same level as the Shangri La. The sacrifice is only a 5 minute walk or a US$1.50 taxi or Tuk Tuk fair. The hotel had an excellent pool, gym and other facilities. The staff were attentive and friendly. I would happily stay at the hotel again.
Reasonably priced Shangri-la hotel”
Nice hotel as is expected fromt the Shangri-la with decoration customized to Thai culture. Met our expectation, although would have liked free internet that normally is part of the room rate with hotels these days. Good service; however, we asked the night before the distance from the hotel to the airport to ensure we had sufficient time. Although the staff had answered our question, it would have been helpful if they were proactive to let us know that all cabs in Chiang Mai are stationed at the airport and needs to be ordered before they can drive to the hotel. As a result, that would have meant a 20 minute wait which we didn't have and ended up booking the hotel car at five times the tax price
Wonderful location and great rooms”
The Shangri-La Hotel was a lovely stay. We spent three nights there and were happy with each one. Because of its exceptional locaton, we were able to walk to the Night Market and to the Inner part of Chiang Mai. The free internet in the room for all devices was also a nice touch. We made use of the pool daily, and set up a great tour through the concierge. Will definitely stay again!
Excellent Holiday”
Ours family enjoy to stay at Shangri-La Hotel Chiang Mai. The location is quite convenience for travel, easy to walk to center city and shopping area. The room is very good design, clean and high quality amenity. The landscape of poolside and service is quite good too. The hotel staffs are very good service mind and polite to help us.
Beautiful Grounds and Attentive Staff”
a first-time stay in chiang mai proved to be gorgeous by staying with the shangri-la hotel. after a quick 5 minute drive from the airport we were welcomed by the friendly staff who took us to the 11th floor for the club checkin. the staff explained all of the available facilities, amenities, club lounge and even arranged some sight-seeing. definitely would stay again, as the service was top-notch.
Fantastic Hotel”
We stayed at the horizon club which was an outstanding place, the staff made our room twice a day without us asking! Snacks were served all day long, the other staff were extremely friendly. Food was outstanding and the location was very convenient. The view from our suite was to die for, we were there during the balloon festival and the kings birthday to witness the cities beautiful fireworks and balloons light up the sky through our window! Overall, I will certainly be going back to Shangri-La Chiang Mai!
Great stay at Shangri La Chiang Mai”
We spent 3 nights at the Shangri-La Chiang Mai. We really appreciated the very friendly and helpfull staff. Our room was nice, spacious and modern. The location of this hotel so close from the city center is very convenient. It is really at walking distance from the night market, several restaurants and shops. Breakfast is tasty and the choice of food (asian and western) is good.
