Great Stay”
Wasn't that sure what to expect when we had booked & don't normally do shared facilities but didn't find anything in Yangon in this price range with private facilities so picked Shannkalay. Got a taxi from the airport, driver wasn't sure of the location but if you say Lucky Seven they know it straight away and that's on the same road. On arrival about 7pm we received a very warm welcome from the staff and were shown to our room. Room is very small but ok for a couple of nights, the positive is the mattress was amazing with nice clean bedding and the facilities provided were always very clean and never found them busy. Lovely little hotel in a great location & would return again when in Yangon.

Cosy little hostel with really awesome staff”
The Shannkalay team were incredible warm and friendly, and really made us feel at home. They patiently entertained all sorts of questions with genuine advice. We had a great time chatting with them and learning about local life, and the areas we were visiting. They were also kind enough to let us shower in the bathrooms the evening before our bus ride to Bagan even though we had checked out, and helped us arrange a cab pick-up. The twin room I booked was relatively clean, tastefully decorated, and felt cosy with the colourful sheets and reading lights. Seriously, the pictures on Agoda don't do the place justice! We shared use of the bathrooms with the other guests, but never needed to wait to use them throughout our stay. Breakfast was simple but good - we had a choice between bread with egg / spreads and a local breakfast dish, mohinga, a fish noodle soupy thing which tastes awesome. Definitely opt for the mohinga. Location is a little displaced from all the action a few streets down (maybe a 10-min walk away?), but this might actually be a good thing because the crowds there did get a little overwhelming to me after a while. There's a supermarket a short walk away, a famous teahouse (Lucky Seven) just next door, and beer just across the road. The street felt safe even later in the night. Catching a cab is easy too. PS: the Yangon traffic jams are insane! Do check with the staff on realistic estimates getting anywhere. Also, when it rains, it REALLY rains, so don't forget that umbrella/raincoat if you're there in June.

Great place to stay at a great price”
I stayed here before and after joining up with a group tour. They arranged a hotel pick up for me on short notice and charged me less than the standard price! The staff was very kind and considerate of me, especially as a female solo traveler. The location was pretty good and had many excellent restaurants near the hostel. I especially enjoyed a noodle shop called nan chat (sp) which is around the corner. If you ask for the Shan noodle shop the young man in reception should be able to point you in the direction. The place seemed to have a good back up generator which is important for the frequent black outs that occur in Yangon. All in all, it was a very convenient place to stay and run by very kind people. The price was all the best I found for a private room in downtown. I would stay here again.

Very helpful staff who will take care of everything”
Shannkalay Hostel could be a little bit far away from Sule Pagoda unlike other accommodation options in the Chinatown, but the staff working there offered quality service, including suggested sightseeing routes, restaurant options and most importantly, booking of bus tickets. Perfect for a short stay in Yangon.

Nice stay ”
We had a nice stay at the Shannkalay Hostel in Yangon. The room was as in the pictures (small) but clean and tidy. The shared shower / toilet was also very clean. The staff was extremely kind and helpful with arranging bus tickets, etc.

Hostel with the charm of a guesthouse”
We absolutely loved our stay at Shannkalay -- that combines perfectly the pros of a hostel (social vibe, price) with the charm of a guesthouse. The double room was clean and compact, shared bathrooms were always clean, breakfast was tasty and the location (about 15 min walk to downtown) had no hustle and bustle, with a more local and relaxed neighborhood vibe. Cheap eats all around, street food, shops... plus, the staff was always super friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!

Super nice Boss”
Located in a nice quiet street. In Shannkalay hostel you will meet a lot of solo travelers starting or ending their trip so is a great place to meet people. This hostel has a balcony looking straight to a school so do expect your wake up call. Over my multiple stay I have had discovered a lot of good clean eateries near this hostel. One end you will find yangon famous Lucky 7 tea house and the other end you will find fruit seller and during the evening it is replace by street food vendors. The owner is super great and go a distance to provide great service.

fantastic”
its the small stuff the staff did, letting you shower after check/out after sweting your way through the Yangon sights before catching a night bus, the staff went out of their way to help, very friendly and homely place, quiet so sleep is good, no loud drunk backpackers, this is a good place for older travellers, its clean, the girl (sorry forgot your name) at reception is very knowlegable about transport on from Yangon and about what to see in Yangon,taxi prices etc and her English is great, the other staff were also great a went out of their way to help. Will stay again when i return to Yangon. only thing need a towel rail in their bathrooms as nowhere to hang stuff when showering, but thats small potatoes, a real gem of a place.

Amazingly friendly and helpful staffs”
We really enjoyed our stay in Shannkalay Hostel. The staffs are amazing, especially Zaw, who helped us a lot (he gave great advices, helped book our overnight bus ticket to Inle, let us to check in early and check out late, arranged for taxis etc.). We arrived at the place knowing nothing and within a day everything was set up for our travel in Myanmar. Thank you Shannkalay for the hospitality :) I will for sure recommend you to my friends!

Good clean place in a great location ”
Place was clean and the staff super friendly and helpful. Rooms are not too big, but enough for crashing a couple of nights and discover Yangon. Location is great, with plenty of the famous tea houses and restaurants, in the middle of Yangon downtown. Price is not so bad... considering that in Myanmar in general accommodation is absolutely overpriced. Definitely can recommend this place.

A lovely family-run hostel very well located”
A brand new hostel right next to one of the best teahouse of Yangon (Lucky Seven). All equipment is brand new (rain showers, water heaters, beds, etc) but the building is not new (can't have it all!) Your experience will vary depending on which room you get... first night we had the room adjacent to the common living room and that was noisy at night and morning. Then we moved to a room at the back and it was much quieter. Make sure to indicate your preference when booking. Dorms looked very comfy too, with curtains around each bed for increased privacy. Laundry is also cheap. Staff, including May, is amazing!

Nice palace to stay in quiet location”
I loved how this place was on such a quiet street in Yangon. The location was close to local cheap street food which I also liked... However, it was a bit of a walk from china town. But you can easily get bus 56 for 100ks ... I stayed twice here at this hostel in a double room. The first time I stayed, I loved it and was in the Mandalay room. The air con works great, breakfast is good and the staff are helpful. However, the second time I stayed, I stayed in mrauk-U room, where the air con was dripping water on my bed. Another downside is that there are no windows and the shelves are on an angle. I was given a glass for some water, but it just slipped off the table and broke and I was forced to pay for the glass. It wasn’t very much, but I found this a bit rude considering I had paid for lots of things at the hostel (laundry, buses, etc...). It made me feel a little uncomfortable. All in all though, this is a great hostel, especially for the price. Here was the fastest WiFi I found in Myanmar !

awesome staff, comfortable stay, good food”
We felt really comfortable. If you dont want to go outside (why ever..) you can chill in the lobby, watch english tv, or talk to the kind staff, or have a coffee on the balcony. Wifi is working. It's not the fastest but for yangon it works pretty well! the staff is always ready to help. They speak english better than most others. I was really impressed and had the best stay here ever. Will always come back here!!! We ve stayed in many hotels/hostels/guesthouses and never felt so welcome. So highly recommend ed!

In the heart of a busy, bustling city this hostel was really a sanctuary. Friendly, overly hospitable and with a terrific 3rd floor balcony to eat your breakfast and the occasional Myanmar beer this should be your stop in Yangon. Cheers to the staff for making my staff an exceptional one!

Highly recommend! Great place! ”
This was a great find. It was affordable, in a good location and had wonderful staff. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean and it came with a good breakfast. The bathrooms are shared but there are several and they are close to the rooms so it wasn't a problem at all. The staff were so friendly and helpful. You can book buses and they helped arrange taxi rides to the airport / bus stations. We stayed here when we first arrived in Yangon and then stayed at the end of our trip again because we had such a good experience. Highly recommend!

Very helpfull staff!”
On arrival I realized I had forgotten something in our transfer bus, an hour away from the hostel. The owner helped call the busstation to search for the item, and when it was found helped us get back to the busstation by providing sollid directions and even written questions for bus and taxi in Myanmar language. The room was very small but this is common in Yangon. It was clean and the shared bathrooms where also clean and ok. Breakfast was the standard eggs toast and fruit. Location is east in town but with local busses its easy to get to the centre and walking in 15 min is also possible

Sweetest and friendliest staff I have ever seen”
The staff at this guesthouse is really extraordinary. I was welcome warmly, attended in the friendliest way, I was helped with further taxi/bus connection, I was given tips etc. The guesthouse is all new and in a perfect condition and a nice decoration. The rooms look much better than on the pictures of agoda! For a breakfast you can chose between a Western one and a Myanmar one. The internet worked perfectly. I have no complains, it was my best accommodation in Myanmar so far and if I pass Yangon again, will for sure return.

We stayed comfortably here for two weeks. All staff are very kind and helpful. Breakfast is good. Room and shared bathroom are clean. Wifi is also good. We'll stay this hostel when we visit Yangon again. Thank you for all staff.

Shannkalay has recently open a new floor with Burmese paintings in each rooms, the staff is always ready to help, the location is great, not as busy as other hotels in town but still near the city center, great food around this place.

Friendly staff ”
We stayed here when we first got to Yangon and also the last night before leaving Myanmar. The AC and wifi was great, the rooms are really clean, and the staff is incredibly nice. The breakfast was good and the outside seating area was really nice! Would definitely recommend!
