Great Ryokan with helpful owner & staff”
First, i must thank the owner and staff. They provide free train station pickup & drop off, also to the monkey park. I hurt my hand, the owner offer to send me to hospital & after i decided not need to, he provided me with medicine and check with my condition everytime he sees me. The first thing u should notice is the welcome board at the entrance, the shoe box and room door, all labelled with your handwritten name. Small thing but sweet. Then, they have your registration form on a table next to the couch. You sit and rest while filling up the form. The friendly staff will explain to u one by one thier facilities, the onsen & restaurants nearby. All of them can speak English ( better than other places i've visitted). Some can speak other languages including Chinese. The hotel itself have traditional deco. The place is very clean, room is very spacious, a little like a studio house. The room is equipt with everything including modern toilet, bath tub, wardrobe for extra mattresses, pillows, another cupboard for shoes, another for clothes. Also have a private and public onsen inside the hotel. The Location of the hotel is very near to the historical Kanaguya Ryokan. Overall, great stay.

Nicest. People. Ever.”
I have never met more incredibly considerate and accommodating people. From shuttling us to the Monkey Park to just making sure we had the right shoes for the walk to the hot spring through the snow, the staff at the Shibu Hotel went the extra mile out of their way to make sure that my friends and I were as comfortable as possible so that we could enjoy our time in Yudanaka. Definitely staying with them again someday.

Great stay!”
It was a enjoyable stay, the stuff was super friendly and helpful. They have shuttle bus and will check your daily schedule to make the bus available to fetch you. The hotel is quiet and clean and I really like the traditional Japanese style. They have in house onsen as well. Highly recommended!

A Quaint and Peaceful Place”
Arrived Yudanaka with hotel driver awaits you. All smiles from the owner to the hotel staffs. They explained everything you need. They even arrange the ride to monkey park. It was a wonderful experience. Food is exceptionally good, do take the hotel dinners. We get to use all the 9 onsens. We enjoyed every single moment of our stay.

Best service and location”
The hotel is in the Shibu Onsen town so it is very convenient to go the 9 public bath by walking 5 min. The staff were extremely friendly and service. It has pick up from train station and to the Snow Monkeys Park. They also have Onsen in the hotel. Lucky me that I always have private time at onsen here.

Exceptional”
The staff at Shibu Hotel were incredibly helpful and attentive. Not only did they provide transport to and from the train station and the monkey park, they also kindly loaned us rain boots and umbrellas for our visit to see the snow monkeys, because it was raining. The hotel is right on the main Shibu Onsen street with its historic bathhouses, the room was spacious and pleasant and clean, and we all enjoyed our stay.

Excellent”
The Shibu Hotel is conveniently located near many of the public onsens. The hotel itself was lovely, and the staff were very warm and accommodating. Note that if you do not order dinner at the hotel, there are not a lot of choices in the area - but the one restaurant we found was really good. The traditional Japanese breakfast was delicious and quite an experience. The hotel also delivered us to the Snow Monkey Park and picked us up when we had finished - highly recommend if you are in this area.

Hotel with nice Japanese Style Rooms”
We had booked a Japanese Style Room including Japanese Set Breakfast in order to have such an experience during our Japan trip and have to say that the Shibu Hotel definitely provided the same with a high standard. The room was spacious, the bathroom, toilet and amenities provided adequate. The Japanese Set Breakfast was nicely prepared, but one had to choose between two breakfast times, which were either at 7.30am or 8.00am and the staff were quite particular that one didn't forget about it, even calling the room to remind us. And the times given made you ready for the day, so that you could pursue your daily activities from an early time onwards. One would presume the main reason for most visitors to go to Yudanaka is to see the Snow Monkeys Park and experience a traditional Japanese Onsen Town, for both of which the Shibu Hotel is well located. Plus the hotel has its own private bath for hotel guests only as well as a public bath with a soaking pool indoors and outdoors. There are several restaurants and shops located along the main road of the township where you will also find the public bath houses, for which Yudanaka is famous. The hotel does not provide a restaurant service. A simple but good Sushi place is right next to the hotel. And should you consider to explore more of the region by visiting the Shiga-Kogen ski area, Nagano and Matsumoto, it would be recommend to consider renting a car in Nagano. Shibu Hotel provides adequate parking space, the staff taking charge of the parking of vehicles as you leave the keys with them. A little drawback is that not all staff members understand English well, but they make it up by always trying to find one of the staff who will understand your queries. We very much enjoyed the stay at the hotel. P.S: Don't be surprised if you encounter a small earthquake. We had such an experience one evening, the building shaking for a few seconds, but as no alarm was sounded we didn't investigate further until the next morning, when

We enjoyed every minute of our 2 day stay at Hotel Shibu”
First of all, it was a surprise that we were picked up at the Yudanaka train station. The check-in process was very organized, timely and informative. The staff gave us a good tour of the hotel facilities - private onsen and communal onsen. We stayed at a Japanese style room. It was very beautiful just like we saw on the brochure and website. We had a free ride to the snow monkey park and back to the train station. The staff was very friendly and ensured that we had a great time. There were lots extra touch - like our boots were brushed clean of mud or calling a bakery that was close and get for us the cake we loved just before we headed back to the train station. We didn't book a breakfast and dinner package. It was not a problem since there are many restaurants that served dinner just steps away from the hotel. We also enjoyed walking around the village and visiting its 9 public baths. Staying at the Shibu Onsen village especially Shibu Hotel plus the snow monkeys were one of the many highlights of our 3 week trip to Japan.

Nice traditional japanese immersion”
Our stay was very great. The staff of the hotel is very attentive, they will give you rides at Yudanaka station and at the Monkey's park. The room is very furnished, like a real ryokan, the beds are on the floor, we have access to tea, traditional dresses and all other needs. The breakfast is very good, but you have to like miso soup and tofu in the morning. The onsen are pretty hot, you can have access to a private onsen, but it is a bit old and rusty. Shibu onsen is a small village not too far from Yudanaka. When you are staying in Shibu Onsen, you have a key to all the 9 public outdoor baths.

absolutely wonderful”
it started the moment i reached Yudanaka and spotted the hotel staff there holding a piece of paper with my name on it (which i totally did not expect), the room is in japanese-style and has a superb view of the river. the hotel's front entrance is on the main road (next to the river) and rear entrance leads directly to Shibu Onsen town, so moving around is easy. they will also drive you to the snow monkey park if you request in advance. the hotel itself has 2 onsens, 1 shared and 1 private. they also provide the necessary items if you wish to use any of the 9 onsen in town. breakfast/dinner time is on level 2 where once can dine in a private room, the menu is well-thought out and the food is excellent. it is during that time when the futon will be laid out or kept. some of the staff do not speak english but communication is not a problem, they are so attentive and efficent, you'll have no need for anything except to relax and enjoy the stay.

Unforgettable experience, unforgettable service”
This area called Shibu Onsen is so magical, I wish I could have stayed a few days longer. The experience was heightened by all the snowfall, it made for a picture perfect setting. I slept to the sounds of the rushing river directly across the street, it was absolutely mesmerizing. Our gracious host was so kind and made sure we were accommodated. There was always a van that was available to drive up to the monkey park or back to the train station, we really appreciated that. We really felt like we were guests in his home. Walking in the alley lined with onsens and shops in our yukatas added to the experience, and we really felt a sense of history. We almost stayed in Nagano as it was a larger city, but we will never forget the time spent in this little town filled with charm and wonderful hospitality.

Location and Relaxation ”
We have a great time in this hotel. The hosts were helpful, telling us which trains to catch, picking us up when the train arrived and dropping us off when we had to catch it back to Tokyo, also dropping us off at the National Park to see the Snow monkeys. The hotel had indoor and outdoor baths as well as a private one for families or couples. The rooms were comfortable and roomy. Their traditional breakfasts were fantastic and delicious. I highly recommend the Shibu Hotel.

Excellent service from the owners and all the staff...”
We had a fantastic time staying at Shibu Hotel. The service provided was tip top, picking us at the train station, providing us with proper boots, to taking us to the Snow Monkey Park and picking us after we were done. Upon checking in, the owner helped me call the Ski school I have booked for a private lesson. They even took us to the ski rental shop to pick up our gears before going back to the hotel for a sumptuous dinner. Our needs were taken care of, leaving us to enjoy our stay there. Highly recommend this place !!

Perfect service. Loved this hotel”
Everything about this hotel was perfect. The staffs were so friendly and willing to help. They might have struggle with a bit of English but they tried their best to understand and help us with anything. Advantage of Shibu Hotel is the access to the Shibu onsens and they have their own private onsen at the hotel. So overall, very good for value and I would definitely come back again if I visit Japan!
