High quality ryokan for mid-range budgets”
This is a fantastic ryokan for the price. Get the room with the private cypress bath because it is beautiful but even if you don't, you'll be fine because there are three private onsens at different locations that you can reserve for free. The kaiseki meals are excellent albeit a bit hurried, but they are on a time schedule and this is one of the few ryokans left where they serve meals in the room, just expect to be disturbed for them to be set up but that's part of the experience. The breakfast is astounding. The whole ryokan smells of fragrant incense that calms the soul. I highly recommend you check in as early as possible right near 3:30 so you can enjoy the facilities more. This ryokan is a destination in itself so if you want to do all the hakone stuff make sure you get to the city early in the morning so you have time to enjoy the ryokan. I highly recommend this ryokan and plan to stay here again!

Lovely ryokan in the middle of nature ”
Absolutely loved our stay. The room was spacious and felt authentic. The food was fantastic. We used the private onsen outside. They lit up the area with real torches which made the experience even more cozy. The site around the ryokan is full of nature and the cute local red train passes by, making the place look like one of those miniature landscapes for electric trains.

Authentic Japanese ryokan experience”
This ryokan is truly authentic and we enjoyed our time. They have gender separated onsen and also a free 30 mins private onsen one if you want to do it with your family or friends. The staff were super friendly and accommodating. We loved our room it was huge and the Japanese bed was surprisingly comfortable. The free massage chair was a cherry on top. The place was quite hilly but that comes with a great view too. We had no problem with this as the ryokan provides a shuttle bus to go up and down the hill to the nearest station. You just need to call them when you arrive at Miyanoshita station. All staff were extremely friendly though their English is limited we had no problem communicating. We loved our stay and highly recommend this ryokan to anyone.

Very good”
We had a great experience with this traditional ryokan. Our dinner and breakfast were served in our room. The lady who took care of us was lovely. She made our experience even more special. We love their private onsen - both were good. The relaxation room was nice too - we hung out there most of our stay. My recommendation is not to select the Premium room. The only plus about this room is big - nothing else. The entry does not have a zen walkway. The room is located next to a fire escape. My friend had the standard room which was better than ours. Their in-room onsen is small. You wouldn’t use it – trust me. The food was delicious. I would recommend staying at this place if you are looking for a traditional ryokan experience.

Very relaxing trip”
This is our third trip to Japan but first time in a ryokan. We booked the luxury room with open air bath and enjoyed it. They have a relaxation room with awesome full body massage chair.. we are thinking of getting one of those now when we get back to the states. They offer free shaved ices, but the lady who was tending the bar the day we were there weren’t very nice. We got to enjoy a private 30 minutes onsen time in one of the public outdoor onsen which is pretty cool, the other was closed due to typhoon 19. Overall, it was a good experience.

An excellent ryokan for our stay! Would definitely come back again in a heartbeat! ”
Such wonderful staff and workers! We were picked up promptly from the train station and had an easy check-in. Our room was beautiful and so clean and spacious. The facilities were clean and had the best amenities! Sitting in the outdoor hot spring and enjoying the view of nature was extremely relaxing and gratifying. Dinner and breakfast were absolutely amazing and we were so full by the end of it. Definitely a one-of-a-kind experience and we were so sad to leave. Everything was so sophisticated while still preserving the essence of staying in a ryokan. We would definitely stay again and have already recommended the place to our friends. Thank you Shiki no Yuzashiki Musashino-Bekkan!

Great retreat and relaxation”
We spent a great 3D2N here at 山紫 (yamamurasaki) room. The hospitality was exactly what we were looking for. They were helpful but never intrusive. The meals were superb. Please feel free to let them know should you have any special requests and they’ll most likely be able to help with that! I opt for non sashimi meals and the substitute was beef steak and it was out of this world! The private onsen in our room was amazing. The temperature might be too hot for people who are not used to onsen but I felt that it really helped to relax! Contrary to other opinions, I don’t think the facilities were old. They were really well kept and they had housekeeping once a day (which includes washing of toilet AND onsen). Hirano san was the lady who helped us throughout our stay. She was so friendly and motherly. お母さんみたい、親切な人人でした。our Japanese was not so good but she still tried her best to speak in simple Japanese :) この三日間ありがとうございました!また今度来たら、もう一度お願いします! Oh yes, they have free shuttle bus to and fro miyanoshita station. Please call them to pick you up. It is really useful!! Thank you Musashino Bekkan for our wonderful honeymoon. We will come again!

Amazing”
This was an excellent place. The baths are lovely and clean. There are two private baths you can book half hour timeslots, and gender-separated public baths that are open for you to visit whenever. Service was excellent; most of the staff speak only Japanese but with Google Translate and lots of gestures, we got on just fine. Some of the lobby staff speak English so you won't be stranded. English menus and signs are all available. Their gift shop was lovely and OMG THE FOOD. SO MUCH FOOD. They serve you breakfast and dinner. You do not need lunch at all. The dishes were all unique, very Japanese, richly flavored, and perfectly made. Our room overlooked Mount Hakone and a lovely bamboo forest. The only warning I would give is that, since you're in the mountains with outdoor baths, be careful of the various insects that you might encounter. The ryokan itself is lovely and clean, but bugs around the outdoor baths cannot be helped.

A luxurious ryokan stay in Hakone”
The ryokan was everything i had hoped for - serene, beautiful and with lovely hot springs. We stayed in a room that had a private hot spring in the balcony and with a separate dining room and living room. It was an authentic japanese experience with the traditional japanese meals, the yukatas and kimonos as well as sleeping on tatami mats. The food was excellent with a special mention of the umeshu and the mochi - they were delightful. It was an expensive stay but well worth the luxuries it afforded us. Unfortunately it was raining throughout our stay in Hakone but it ensured that we made full use of the multiple hot springs that the hotel had. Would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants the full traditional japanese experience.

Truly Authentic Japanese Experience ”
The whole experience was something I will never forget, a real taste of an authentic Japanese ryokan, tatami mats, kimonos, onsen, little dishes of fine cuisine served in your room. Food was beautifully presented (NOT to western tastes - VERY traditional cuisine), served by a delightful Japanese lady, clearly pleased to showcase the food. Dinner is early 6 or 6.30, breakfast is early 8 or 8.30 (they wake you for it!). The private open air onsen in the room was comparable with a UK bath, not big but fairly deep, my husband and I got in it together, nice to have albeit an expensive option. There are several onsens in the ryokan, 1 you reserve for 30 mins of private use. In addition there are separate female/male onsen - the lady offered us use of either one of them together privately as there was no one else using them. We only saw a few other couple during our stay, all Japanese. It is a very private stay. The futon and duvet were very comfortable, I slept beautifully, my husband (used to having several pillows) not so. They will collect you from the station if you call, we took a taxi from the nearby Fujiya Hotel, it's too far to walk from the station. The setting, whilst wooded, is close to the railway line and the mountain road both you can hear when you're in the open air onsen. It's not hugely intrusive and the onsen are open all night so if you reserved it for later in the evening (after dinner perhaps) you probably wouldn't hear any road noise. To be honest I don't think you would avoid road noise from any of the accommodations in the area. They're all located close to the road which is fairly busy. Perhaps in the summer when there is more foliage the noise would be less. You couldn't hear the road from our room as it faced the mountain. I would recommend this Ryokan, I think as traditional ryokans go this must be up there, as there was clearly no softening to western tastes!! Got to be experienced to make the most of a visit to Japan!

Charming older ryokan”
We stayed two nights at this lovely ryokan. Our room was really big for a ryokan, comprising of two rooms - one for dining, one for sleeping, and a bathroom complete with an ofuro Japanese bathtub. Breakfast and dinner were plentiful, but several dishes were served cold - perhaps due to the length of time to bring from kitchen all the way to our room. One major inconvenience - no wifi in the rooms. To access wifi, one must go to a common room on the first floor. Also, it is a bit of a walk to access the ryokan, and one must take advantage of the ryokan's van that gladly provide rides to and from the ryokan to the town's train station. Otherwise, a very well kept older, charming onsen ryokan in Hakone.

Exceptional”
Perfect experience! the day when we arrived at train station there was thurderstorm. They sent a mercedez van picking us up in 10 min after the call. Facility is great and I love the public hot spa area, so nice decorated. The room we booked is quite pricy and the only 2 things I don't quite like is the room is right next to the mountian and there is no sun light at all and the water from the antique faucet is freezing (wondering why there is no hot water from vanity)

Best of the best ryokan ever.”
Provided guest with Yukata to try on. (Both Male & Female) Needless to say, the Kaiseiki dinner was awesome. Breakfast was excellent as well. Best meals i had in japan. The meals are serve in your room as well. Room came with private onsen. Water was a little too hot to soak in. However, guest were able to book hotel public onsen for private use for half an hour. Water was in a more acceptable temperature. Enjoyed ourselves there. They had a room with massage chairs that were free to use for guest. Transport were provided to and fro ryokan to multiple destination nearby (Train station or bus stop) They had also provided guest with free flow of green tea, herbal tea (which tasted so good that i had to purchase some back)

Great old-style hotel with many different onsens (both public and private, indoor and outdoor). We also had one attached to our room, but hardly used it as we enjoyed the other ones. There's also a relaxation room with massage chairs and some nice views. Traditional Japanese dinner was quite tasty and enjoyable. In terms of getting there - hotel will pick you up from a nearby train station, just give them a call and wait for 3-5 min.

Wonderful place to relax and experience the Japanese culture :)”
My friend and I stayed at the traditional side of the inn. The inn is located up a hill and they can organize to pick you up at the nearby station. We were taken care of throughout our stay, the facilities to the staff were all great. Communication was decent, everyone seems to know a bit of English so we had no problems there. The food was delicious and meticulously laid out. We were well fed and got to try a range of traditional Japanese delicacies. The facilities were a great way to relax. We had the opportunity to try the private spa and the ambiance was wonderful. Overall it's a good way to get the full Japan experience (especially with the traditional side of the inn) and great place to relax. I would definitely come again and recommend this to other people :)

Stellar Food, Service and Location”
My partner and I stayed here for 2 nights in early November. 1st time in Japan and 1st time in a ryokan. COST: Knew it was a splurge and you pay in full at time of booking. FOOD: The best part! Staying two nights we had two full kaiseki dinners and breakfasts. Presentation was beautiful and it was fun trying to match what you eat with what's on the English menu. Our caretaker (who brought in the food) didn't speak English but was so sweet - we communicated with charades and Google-translate perfectly fine. ROOM: Had a private onsen bath on a wooden balcony. Small for anyone >5'9" but we managed and it was great :). "Shower" is outside on balcony next to bath. Tatami mat area w/yukata/socks + TV room w/ bathroom/sink/seats. Each night they come in to set up your futons. Free tea OTHER: You can book times to visit their other 2 larger private onsens. They have a shuttle to/from the nearest rail stop, which you'll appreciate as it's VERY hilly. A very quiet, peaceful place. Thank you!

Nice Ryokan Style Hotel in Kyoto”
This hotel is a perfect accommodation for couple, e.g. honeymoon. It has so many facilities that you can enjoy. The staff, although they speak limited English, are very helpful and always satisfy us. If you need something particular, just speak to the reception (English speaking) and they will pass your message to their colleague. After your booking, they will email a confirmation with some questions. Just reply to them what suit you for your stay. Dinner was good, a Kaiseki experience in Ryokan style room. Breakfast also tempting for us. If you have an allergy, just let them know in advance. They can alter the menu. They have some spots for Onsen, which is the main attraction for Ryokan style hotel in Kyoto. Arrange your time and give enough time to enjoy it. The room is clean, but some corner looks aging. It's not stuffy and big enough for 2 people (or maybe can be for 4 people in a room). Nearest station is Miyanoshita. They have a shuttle to pick up you to the hotel. If you don't have a local SIM card, just go to the convenience store on the main street. You'll find a coin phone and able to contact them. Overall it is a nice experience to stay here!
