I stayed for 2 nights. The room had a calm atmosphere and was a twin room that was not too small and easy to use. The washbasin was also spacious and could hold various items. Gongdeok is my second stay, but it is very convenient. It is easy to take the train anywhere and there are many delicious restaurants nearby. You can also shop at Emart, and Olive Young nearby is open from 9am, which is very helpful. I will use it again on my next trip to Korea!

Because I didn't want to stay in traditional tourist areas like Myeong-dong, I chose Mapo. The hotel is very close to the subway station, making it convenient for travel, and there is a potato spine soup restaurant within two blocks. The view from the high floors is good, and the overall cleanliness is decent. However, it's a bit expensive.
10-Day Solo Traveler | Amazing people, slightly disappointing facilities.”
Located in an area that is connected to many modes of transportation and train lines, Shilla Stay Mapo has amazing staff that would be available to help 24/7. I requested for a room with a bath tub but was unfortunately not accommodated, and the high floor room was also not possible, given the amount of guests they had. For its price, it is quite disappointing that they would charge their guests for a single use toiletries with everything rather than providing one free set of it and only charging additional requests of it. A good thing, however, is that regardless if you have water bottles left in your fridge, they will always give you two (2) new bottles every day, accumulative. They change the towels everyday and provide big towels which is unique given that most Korean hotels only provide the small towels. There is a built-in bidet in the hotel but after a few days it was no longer a warm seat but despite maintenance checking on it a few times it still was not resolved. They do clean your rooms every day but they skip parts of the room with your personal effects in it, so make sure to pack your things neatly if you want the room to be fully and efficiently cleaned. Finally, the sockets are designed to have both Korean and International type of sockets, and they also provide adaptors to borrow, and extension cords as well, but for some reason, the room sockets are very tight and anything you put in the international sockets become very loose. I am not disappointed fully by my stay, but if you are travelling to vacation in a hotel, Shilla Stay Mapo might not be the best choice. However, I highly recommend it for travelers who would need a nice, decent, and secure space to stay in.

Decent hotel but doesn't live up to it's reputation”
I recommend this hotel mostly because of it's location at Gongdeok station which covers Line 5, Line 6, the Airport Line (AREX) and the Gyeongui–Jungang Line which allows quick transport to major stations and popular stops like Hongdae, Yeouido and Itaewon while being out of the way of the city centre. The hotel is overall clean and comfortable, and the staff are responsive and accommodating but being a subsidiary of The Shilla I expected more attention to detail. I had a comfortable stay but I would not call it a "deluxe" experience. Admin/Staff: I booked the double deluxe room because I wanted the bathtub shown in the photos. However, when I arrived I found my room had no bathtub. Front desk explained there were 2 room types, one with a tub and one without, and my preference wasn't available for my whole stay. Unfortunately this wasn't specified on Agoda which I felt was misleading, but front desk staff immediately offered to change my room the next day so the issue was resolved in the morning. Staff also kept my bags for a full day after I checked out-- I've heard some hotels do not offer this service but I had no issues here. Room: The deluxe double room is quite spacious. There is enough floor space to fully open one large suitcase but you may struggle to open two. The partition which opens the bathroom to the rest of the room might have been nice if I had a view of Namsan Tower but my windows faced an office building so it felt a little exhibitionist. It was nice in the daytime to allow some natural light into the bathroom while I did my morning routine. There are also no lamps or small lights in the bathroom so if you want to watch TV or enjoy the view while you bathe you either have to sit in the dark or turn on a bigger light and make yourself more visible from outside and introduce glare to the windows. The toilet is electronic with a bidet function. Shower/tub is not fully enclosed so water will spray or splash onto the floor- make sure to use the bathmats so you don't step in a puddle after your shower. Amenities: Wifi connection was not the strongest but the speed was decent. One point that bothered me was that I could not cast/screen mirror my Android phone to the Samsung TV because it will only work with Samsung devices. The hotel is owned by Samsung so it makes sense they use Samsung TVs but I was quite annoyed that an amenity that I paid for was locked behind a walled-garden ecosystem. Watching Youtube or scrolling through Reels on my phone was not the way I wanted to relax at the end of a tiring day. It's a small annoyance but it made me feel they should consider the convenience of their guests first and foremost. Additionally it was a bit off-putting to find disposable paper cups in the bathroom- a hotel with the Shilla namesake can't afford to do some extra dishwashing and provide mugs to the deluxe rooms? Toothbrushes and toothpaste were also at additional cost which is done in an effort to reduce waste but really seems like a cost cutting measure. Cleanliness/Housekeeping: Room was cleaned and amenities like tea/coffee/soap/towels/slippers were refreshed everyday. The sheets are only changed after each 3rd(?) night which was fine by me, the bed was still made everyday. Bins were emptied everyday as well. The room was mostly clean but there were some areas which showed some age or needed more attention, such as scale on the bathroom fittings, mould in the caulking and unsightly stains on the lampshade. I didn't notice too much dust.

Beware if u get a room in level 10”
Got a room in level 10. First impression, the room looked comfortable and clean. Bed was nice. However, was woken up around 4am by a strong stench from the toilet. It was as though the sewers had just burst. Was too tired to make a complaint, so just flushed many times, closed the toilet door and went back to sleep. The next morning,no smell before I left the room. But when I came back at night, again the smell was very bad. This time I requested to change room immediately. Without asking further, the staff immediately changed the room for me. So I guess they must have known about the problem way earlier. And because I was out the whole day and the stench was so bad, all my clothes had absorbed it and became very smelly. I requested for laundry service but the staff told me I could only wash it with the washer but there’s no dryer. So technically it’s impossible to wash it. She just gave me a can of air freshener to spray on my clothes! I’d say overall, this hotel offers comfortable and clean stay with very good location as it’s very near to gongdeok station and bus station is just outside the hotel. However, the bad experience I had spoilt it.
