"The hotel staff can speak English, which is helpful for first time travelers. The hotel itself is conveniently located near the train station and a couple of stores."

Shinagawa Prince Hotel
Shinagawa,Shinagawa - View on map
"Our stay at Shinagawa Prince Hotel was a right decision we have made. Firstly we were pleased with the twin room that we have booked. The room was tastefully done and it was comfortable for a good night rest. From the room, we could see the panoramic view of the city. The night scene was beautiful. It provides that feeling of space and beauty of a cosmopolitan city. One of the advantage of staying at Shinagawa Prince is that the Shinagawa JR station is just right at the doorstep. You could take the train to any parts of Japan. Travelling in and around Tokyo becomes a breeze to any travellers. Around the hotel vicinity there are restaurants, convenient shops and supermarket to meet the traveller's needs. The hotel staff are very resourceful and helpful in attending to guest's enquiry. You could hardly get lost with their valuable help. Above all we had a memorable stay at Shinagawa Prince Hotel. "

Shinagawa Tobu Hotel
Shinagawa,Shinagawa - View on map
"Tobu Shinagawa is a nice modest, no frills hotel. It is up the hill from the Shinagawa train station along other hotels like the Grand Prince and Keikyu. It was a perfect landing spot for a couple days in Tokyo for our itinerary. It was convenient to the Narita and Haneda airport via Keikyu line or limousine bus. The limo bus doesn’t stop here but across the street at the Grand Prince. Not a big deal for the price and convenience unless you have a lot of luggage. Free coffee in the 2nd floor lounge with paid washing machines and vending, with bottles of water. Beds were comfy and room was clean. You have to give your room key every time you leave as it’s still a key system. "

MIYAKO CITY TOKYO TAKANAWA
Shinagawa,Shinagawa - View on map
"This hotel is less than 10 minute walk from Shinagawa station which has all the train lines you'll need for a stay in Tokyo, making this a great central location for sightseeing. It was still new when we stayed so everything was nice and tidy, but I do see the potential for the condition to decline over the years as we could see some things were already not cleaned well. For example, there were cup ring marks on the table and the basin was dirty on check in. Also, there is not much in English here. Instead of a book they provide a tablet in the room but we couldn't understand anything on it. Only on our third day did it offer an option in English, but we didn't care by that point. Also the restaurant in the lobby has only snacks to eat in the evening and no one was available when I tried to buy something. Hopefully, these are just teething issues they can resolve over time. "

Mitsui Garden Hotel Gotanda
Shinagawa,Shinagawa - View on map
"The location is great. It is only 3-4 minutes walk to Gotanda Station if you enter from Tokyu Department Store and 5-6 minutes walk if you enter via the main entrance. A stone's throw away from Meguro River where it is lined up with Cherry Blossoms during Spring. There are many restaurants nearby and it is near Shibuya, Shinagawa and Tokyo Station. They have a great, relaxing view at the Reception on L15 and a great Spa on L16 where you can relax after a long day. My only complaints is that they should increase their washing machines to 5 or 6 instead of 2. They could make the Spa more relaxing by adding bamboo trees. There was a whiff of bad smell in the room and hallway which we could look past. We left the windows open and it felt better. On the last day, the house keeping left the black blanket (folded up) on the floor instead of putting them on the bed. If it wasn't for the smell and blanket, we would have given it a perfect score. We will definitely stay in this hotel again."

Tokyu Stay Gotanda
Shinagawa,Shinagawa - View on map
"Probably due to cost saving, your room is only cleaned once a week if you stay there more then 7 days. Since I'm staying for 9 days, this is the only thing inconvenient for me as I bring back a lot of food & drinks and the rubbish kinda pile up. You can get the housekeeper to clean it if you see her in the hallway though, so it's not really much of an issue. I really love that the hotel has a microwave and a washing machine equipped with dryer. This means you can do your laundry when you're back in the hotel at night and don't have to wash that dirty pile of clothes when you're back in your home country. If you're on a budget, the microwave also helps since you can get food from department store and heat things up. TV, fridge, safe is provided as well. The toilet seat is equipped with an automatic heater which is kind of awesome. On top of that, the hotel is located only 3 to 5 minutes walk away from Gotanda station (Yamanote line), as well as Asakusa Line right at the doorstep, so it is really easy to get to places like Shibuya, Harajuku, Ikebukuro, Shinagawa, etc. There are lots of good food nearby, as well as a departmental store just around 10mins walk away. 7-select is just next to the hotel and there's a Family Mart right across the street. The hotel is not sparkling, but generally clean. Would I recommend it? Yeap!"

HOTEL MYSTAYS PREMIER Omori
Shinagawa,Shinagawa - View on map
"At first I was worried about the location of this hotel in Shinagawa, as I felt it wasn't central enough. I was WRONG! This hotel is close to the station (10 mins walk max) - with small supermarkets nearby. There are also two big supermarkets very close by & the room cost is pretty amazing. The breakfast buffet is a really good deal - loads of choice including western & japanese style food. Was very impressed. "

More about Shinagawa

With the recent commencement of the Shinkansen service to Shinagawa, the area’s hotels have become much more convenient and popular, with Shinagawa Station becoming a convenient launch pad for trips to Kyoto, Osaka and the surrounding cities. Several hotels in Shinagawa are connected to Narita Airport via the Airport Limousine bus.

The area is well signposted, with many signs in English. The two sides of the station are quite different, with the west side mainly residential, while the east side is commercial and industrial. It is difficult to get from one side of the station to the other without walking through the station itself, so visitors should be sure to exit the station on the correct side for their destination.

Within walking distance of the station, Sengaku-ji is a temple famous as the resting place of the 47 Ronin, a famous group of samurai who banded together to avenge their unfairly slain master. A small museum has artifacts from the event and after, including wooden statues of all the ronin.

The Hara Museum of Contemporary Art hosts modern art exhibitions in a 1930s house which is itself a great example of modern architecture in pre-war Japan. Visitors who have built up appetites walking between Shinagawa's attractions can find a delicious meal at the clusters of restaurants around the station that serve both Asian and European cuisine.
