Great place, super clean, Great Location”

Our second time in Tokyo and our first stay in Shinjuku. Reading all the other reviews good and bad and watching tons of Youtube videos. I can honestly say this little gem is perfect for everything, location, pricing and cleanliness. Located on the eastern side of Shinjuku you will find yourself with in a 4 min walk to Golden Gai, (A must see and experience for yourself area) The rooms are normal size for Tokyo if you want larger pay more and don't complain because you are frugal. After stalking the prices for weeks we finally found a really good price that included breakfast, normally we don't do breakfast but it was worth the extra 11 bucks a day and the breakfast was enormous and far far better then any skimpy European breakfast we had during out travels. The rooms were very clean and we stayed in a economy double on the 16th floor with a great view. They have a rooftop bar on the 13th floor landing that looked out over the city, they have daily happy hours and a decent menu as well at the rooftop bar. The front desk staff is more then helpful and will direct you and give you maps to anyplace you want to go. If you are a shopper , most big stores are by Shinjuku station which is about a 10 min walk. The area is very safe and you have tons of choices of food with in a couple min walk. I tried to cover all the bases here because I read a couple reviews that just seemed ridiculous and I want everyone to be upfront because thats how we book our hotels. Let me explain, if you have 4 to 5 Large suitcases and book a small double room for 3 or more people you get what you purchased its 15 SQ meters plus bath room they have larger that only cost 20 to 30 bucks more. The food in the restaurants was superior to or equal to most of the 4 to 5 stars we have stayed in. The area is a have a good time area , that is why you are staying in Shinjuku ! If you are looking for a hotel in Shinjuku and on a medium priced level then this far exceeds your perimeters.

Excellent value for comfort and location”

location, hotel services, price

We booked a Superior Double room for an eleven night stay at Shinjuku Granbell and were very pleased. We upgraded to a Mature room w/o kitchen which is in my view the best room at the hotel for value. All bookings were by Agoda with special internet discounts even up to the day of check in. This is a very popular hotel and for good reason. The check in and check out process is very efficient, the rooms were clean and well equipped with amenities, and the maid service was reliable. The bar on the 13th floor is a great option for a rooftop bar- excellent view, not so many customers, and good prices- a hidden gem among rooftop bars in Tokyo. Although the maid service was limited to between hours of 10-2pm, if one managed one's schedule to request service during this period, it was reliable. I especially liked the daily delivery of bottled water. There was one night that the entire hotel lost power. This became a slight hassle during the day because the elevators where not operable. We were refunded a half night's rent, and they eventually fixed the problem. I don't expect this to occur again. My main complaint is about the pub/coffee lounge on the first floor. First, the hours could be more convenient; currently it is from 10am to 8 pm, so I had to go elsewhere for coffee in the morning. It is a comfortable space, and I actually like the draft beer more there than at the bar on the 13th floor. If hours were extended in the evening, I think there would be interest by customers. Second, the service there was lacking, particularly in the beginning of my stay. One time, I couldn't find the attendant and had to ask the main desk to send him to the lounge even during the middle of its operating period. Generally, one had to make more effort than usual to submit an order. I enjoy not being frequently hassled for service, but this was somewhat the other extreme.

An unexpected lovely rendezvous”

The modern vibe hotel, friendly and helpful staff and its charm

Shinjuku Granbell experience is awesome! Our first day in Tokyo was really challenging since you are still familiarizing with their transportation system. Best tip is to go to their information centers located in all stations and ask all the How's questions to save time. After getting off the train in Higashi-Shinjuku station, that where our adventure begins. Haha or should we say, we got lost finding this beautiful boutique hotel. We got confused with left and right turns. Anyway, when you exit A1 all the way up, turn left and walk straight and have to turn right somewhere there. Follow the map that they sent you. So when we finally found it, we were amazed by its charm. Like an oasis in the middle of busy streets of Shinjuku. We just loved it! Check in was fast and the staff are very friendly and helpful. They have ready maps of best restaurants, theme parks and other tourists spots ready for all their guests. We're not able to try their food since our package doesn't include it. We opted for authentic ones outside. Room is very clean and they clean everyday even without you putting the 'Please Make Up Room' sign which is by the way, very admirable. Japanese are just so disciplined. We would definitely book again here!

Great place to stay in Tokyo”

Granbell is a great place to stay when you visit Tokyo. The location is right in Shinjuku. It is within walking distance to many good restaurants and shopping area like Isetan and Bic Camera. After all day of fun and shopping, you can still find ramen shop and other all night dining. It is so easy to walk to the train station. The taxi ride from Shinjuku Station to hotel cost less than 1000 Yen. So if you don't want to pull your luggage along the road to the hotel when you arrive, or going to catch the Airport Express train or Expressway Bus, you can afford to pay for a taxi ride instead. The staff are friendly and have good command of English to communicate. They give good advice on booking train, bus ticket, finding places to eat and shop. This is a big plus when you are in Japan. The room price is also very reasonable. The size is small but it is still more comfortable than some other places that I have stayed before. It is modern, clean, and has all the bathroom supplies similar to well know 4 star hotel.

Granbell Excells ”

Shinjuku Granbell is perfectly located for those who aren't afraid of a little variety in their neighbourhood. You must visit the local batting cages and get up early to see the fancy boys staggering out of the nearby establishments. It is close to a number of subway lines and stations that allow you access to every part of Tokyo. There are lots of interesting local eateries providing everything from a quick cheap bite to an intricate traditional experience. The Granbell's Margarita pizza is a quick jet lag fix and the roof top bar makes a mean Tom Collins, with a view that rivals many top hotels and there is no cover charge. The rooms are very clean and the staff are incredibly helpful. It is a very quiet hotel. We have stayed at the Granbell once before and hope to stay there again soon.

Excellent experience @Granbell”

Shinjuku is a great and vibrant place to visit in Tokyo. Above all, Granbell hotel staff is simply awesome and ever ready to help. They've taken care of all requests we made off of them and were courteous in entertaining us. Overall hotel design, location and amenities are what make Granbell one of the best hotels in Tokyo. Shinjuku-sanchome station is nearby and so are restaurants such as Masala Station and Shopping malls such as OiOi and ISETAN. We loved and enjoyed staying here and would return shortly...

We couldn't have asked for anything more.”

We have just returned from Tokyo and our stay at the Shinjuku Granbell Hotel. I have not one complaint or criticism. The rooms are lovely (don't ever expect them the be huge, this is Japan) and the design aspect of the little rooms are really great. The staff were so busy as it was Cherry Blossom Season but nothing was too much trouble. We loved everything about the hotel. It's close to the subway and a fun walk to the centre of Shinjuku and the main station. We had a ball.

Great Location! Easy Check In and Check Out”

My friend and I booked Shinjuku Granbell in an impulse when we were in Tokyo because our original place (airbnb) was very far from central tokyo. Considering it was last minute booking, I feel like it was still value for money. The location is central near two station lines. The hotel is very clean, staff very friendly and they have this very cute night gown, So comfortable! There was vending machine with lots of easy snacks and drinks on the ground which is a plus and they even offered a complimentary glass of wine, we did not use it however. The only downside, is the size of the room but considering the other hotels in tokyo, it is on the bigger end. Overall great stay and will stay again should i find myself back in Tokyo!

New, comfortable and clean.”

New Hotel. Right location within Shunjuku. Nice clean environment.

Stay at Granbell because of its reasonable hotel charges and good location within Shinjuku. Room is very clean but a bit small but you can also choose a larger room with higher charge while staying in Tokyo City anyway. Like the location as lots of restaurants within walking distance just right outside the hotel. Shinjuku main train station required about 15 to 20 mins walk from hotel. Overall the experience is good and no major complaint. Hotel front desk understands english but can't expect good spoken english.

Great Location | Good Price for Mid-Level Luxury”

My second stay at the Shinjuku Granbell Hotel. It's a comfortable, sophisticated, boutique-style hotel with very accommodating staff, nice clean rooms, comfy beds, good city views and in a great location. The Deluxe Double was an adequate sized room in comparison to other Japan hotels. The only disappointing part of the stay was the fact that the rooftop bar was undergoing renovations so we couldn't use it. That wasn't mentioned on any of the booking sites. Also, they're is only 2 washing machines and 1 dryer in the laundry area for the whole hotel.. Great hotel nevertheless.

Brand new, great location, incredibly clean!

My wife and I stayed here on our first ever trip to Tokyo. Room was small but immaculate and modern. Staff spoke English very well. Great neighborhood with McDonalds, Tully's Coffee, CoCo Curry House, and many other foreigner friendly choices. Higashi-Shinjuku subway station is right around the corner. We had an amazing trip and could not have asked for a better hotel experience. So glad we chose the Shinjuku Granbell.

The perfect Shinjuku hideout!”

Rooftop Bar, Room Quality, Helpful Staff

Our stay at Granbell was a second to none experience. Though the location can be a bit tricky to find for first timers in Shinjuku, it is only a less than 10 minute walk from the station when you get used to your way around. Best advice for budgeters: BE WILLING to spend that little extra for a standard room at Granbell rather than a budget hotel/Airbnb, you will not regret the value for money you receive on the comfort and luxurious stay when you need to rest ip from Tokyo's intense hustle and bustle. The highlight of this hotel though is definitely it's beautiful rooftop bar open to anyone, and had the best atmosphere to end every night of our stay. Will definitely try the spectacular higher-end rooms next time!

Convenient location near Higashi-Shinjuku station”

Shinjuku Granbell was a nice business hotel, but was a little lacking in personal touch. The staff at the counter desk hardly smiled at all. Like the rest of Tokyo, the hotel felt very busy and the lifts were always full. It was not a bad stay though, we thought the size of the room was bigger than other business hotels that we had stayed in previously and the location was pretty convenient. Would consider staying here again in future.

Good place to stay”

I needed to find a place in Shinjuku to stay for a couple days at short notice due to an ankle injury. I found this place after a quick search, and after staying at the Kyoto Granbell and having an amazing experience, I decided to give this one a go. Overall it was very good. The staff was very helpful, and they made sure to give me a heads up about a matsuri festival happening at a nearby temple, costs of taxis, directions, etc. I also went to their cafe a few times and had their seasonal chestnut latte, and it was amazing. Definitely worth a try! The hotel is in a great location, and walking distance to a lot of various places. Shinjuku station is about a ~12-15 min walk, so a little far, but still not that bad. There are closer stops if you need to get somewhere too. I had the breakfast buffet and it was good, though I think the hotel staff working on that floor seemed rushed, so the vibe was a bit stressful, but the food still tasted good! The room itself was very clean, always well prepared, and provided me with a toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, body towel, hot water heater, tea, and all sorts of things. More than I was expecting! They also have some vending machines on the first floor if you need a midnight snack. Overall it was a great place to stay and I highly recommend it! :)

Stayed at the Shinjuku Granbell for only 1 night this trip but would stay at this hotel again when in Tokyo. Great location - only a 4 min walk from the Golden Gai district (small Japanese bar streets), only a short walk from the center of bustling Shinjuku, and we enjoyed the happy hour on the Granbell's rooftop with a stunning view of the city. Modern Design Hotel Almost at the Heart of Shinjuku ”

The room is nicely designed in modern way and really maximized the small space (as typical of Shinjuku/Shibuya area hotels) rather well. It's in the heart of Shinjuku although it'll take a good 20 minutes walk to JR station so if you have lots of luggage...might be a bit challenging. But for shopping, gawking (since that's what you're likely to do at Shinjuku) and eating, the location is great. The staff were great and helped me book seats at some rather hard to seat restaurants I had on my list. Price-wise, quite competitive with its neighbors...and I having stayed at APA ones in the area...I would rather choose the Shinjuku Granbell

Nice Hotel in a Prime Location”

Nice hotel in a very convenient location. Because it's a larger hotel, the Granbell Shinjuku offers quite a few amenities, including a really great rooftop restaurant/bar. I do think the 4 star rating is perhaps a bit generous, though. Unless you pay a high premium, the rooms are fairly small, even by Tokyo standards. And thought they're clean and well-designed, I'd hardly call them "luxurious." I did appreciate the fact that we were able to get into our room early in the day after a long overnight flight, and without being charged extra, despite the hotel's stated policy of slapping on fee for this fairly routine courtesy, assuming rooms are already cleaned and ready.

Comfortable, quality stay at an affordable-ish price. ”

This is my second time at the Shinjuku Granbell and the hotel maintains its quality. I had a great, comfortable stay here. Rooms are a bit on the small side, but hey, this is Tokyo and space comes at a premium. My only gripe is that it is a bit further from a Tokyo Metro. Not that it is far, but there are other hotels which are closer to Shinjuku Sta. All in all, recommended.

Small, stylish, and just right”

Location, cleanliness, and friendly staff

The hotel worked very well for me and my husband. We stayed for 7 days during the last week in March 2014 which was an amazing time to view the cherry blossoms in full bloom. The hotel was very modern and well situated in Shinjuku (great nightlife activities). The hotel was a little difficult to find for us as this was our first trip to Tokyo and we were not accustomed to the public transit or streets. Good news is we eventually found it (after about a 45 minute search from JR West Station) and never had an issue with locating the hotel after the first night. The rooms were small, modern, clean, and had pretty nice bathrooms with an awesome bidet (Californians don't normally use bidets and this was a splendid first for us)! The surrounding area of the hotel has many hotels were you can have a "rest" or a "stay." Overall, I felt very safe in the area and didn't see anything too crazy (then again I'm from LA) considering we were near the red light district. There's a ton of places to walk to from the hotel including transit, bars, restaurants, shopping, entertainment, etc. Granbell worked great for us as our base location for exploring all Shinjuku and others parts of Tokyo during our stay!
