Great location, subway and buses are very close, walkable. Wi-Fi, clean sheets, good mattress, but you have to make your own bed. This can be improved. The girl at the reception is rude and insulting, unlike the Japanese culture. The guy there esp. During the day is simply amazing. They allow you to store luggage as well which is super convenient. Nice kitchen and common area.
The place is clean and well maintained, you have to pay extra for towels. they have a smoking area which is a plus for me. The shared room was a bit smelly when we passed by good thing we were staying in a twin room.
Excellent location with good price”
Overall is good. Definitely will come back again..
The best Hostel ever”
Shiori an was the best Hostel we had so far. It is clean, staff is very friendly and helpful, enough shared showers and toilets, kitchen and coin based laundry! Such a lovely place and nice atmosphere! we definetly would book it again!!!
Hostel in excellent location with good price”
Excellent location: 10 mins to Kyoto station, 3 mins to the underground street with many shops. You can put your luggage in the hostel after check out, staffs are friendly. Overall facilities are good, but there is no elevator
Great for the price”
This place is basic but the price was fantastic. Very small double room but the accommodation had everything we needed for a couple of nights and was cheaper even than capsule hotels. Would happily stay again.
A great stay with exceptional cleanliness. The owner has put an immense amount of effort decorating the place. Can confidently say one of the best designed guest house I have ever been to. Owner is also really nice. He waited up for me even though I was really late.
Definitely not value for money. We stayed at proper hotels during this trip that's less expensive and much much much better value in all aspects (cleanliness, location, size, amenities). This guesthouse charges for use of towels even. Will definitely not recommend, sorry. Was the worst stay we had during our 5 nights in terms of value. Staff are nice though, that's it. Sorry.
Friendly staff, good location”
Good location, it is very near to Gojo station, there are many convenient stores and restaurants around the hostel. The staffs is very helpful, they can speak English also. The hostel is very clean. There is no comb in the bathroom, you have to pay to use the towel.
When payment done via agoda, it stated include tax and everything. My payment was done through agoda. Upon reach hostel, the front desk demand each person per night to pay 200 yen for tax. I dont have such case in other place in kyoto and osaka. Toilet feel smelly, and living room just very nearby the toilet. Whole shoes rack full of shoes without rack door.. the smelly fume even go into the dormitory room U cant use the washing machine from 11am to 3pm, and then the dryer machine take huge money to dry my clothes
Heartful and helpful staff”
I just add: with sense of humour So I experienced these three qualities in staff: heartfulness, helpfulness and sense of humour. Very light critic about the location: you could explain that the best way is to choose exit 6 at Gojo Station, take the elevator, turn right, walk some meters, and turn right again, some more meters (at least 10! maybe 20 or 30!!!) and Shiori-an on the left. Would I have known, about 40 or 50 minutes of errance under the heavy rain would have been spared to me and to my luggage!
It's comfortable with a kitchen. I really liked the common area. The dorms were fine but not the best. The beds are fine but I would have liked a more comfortable bed and pillow. It's nice to have the kitchen, free coffee and a group cleaning each day. I did notice once that before the group came in at 11:00 the common room and kitchen were dirty. It was just once but it would have helped if the staff working at the time just went through the area quickly to clean it. At that time many prepare food and eat breakfast. I don't expect guesthouses to be clean all the time but it's hard to eat like this. Otherwise there were no problems. The guests are all talkative and friendly. Some stay in the common area and talk late. I liked having a washer and dryer always available. The price during the August holiday was a little high. (2450) Afterwards it went down to 800-1000. I liked the atmosphere and location. It's easy to walk to Gion or Kyoto station. Thanks for providing a nice place.
They clean everyday, there are enough toilets and showers and a big kitchen. There's a nice common area where the guests can talk. The wifi works well there but not as well in the girl's dorm. It would be nice to have some hooks or shelves in the toilets and shower rooms to put clothes while showering or hang your handbag.
Good value, good location”
Each room has 20 beds which seems like a lot but it was okay. The room is divided into two sections. The beds are okay but not really comfortable. The common area and kitchen are nice. Also free coffee/tea. Coin laundry. Good as far as hostels go. Low price. No problems.
Reasonable price and best service ”
Location : easy to go sight seeing and close to the station Staffs are very friendly and helpful Room is very clean and cozy. Bath rooms are very clean. They have kitchen so you can cook. Restaurants in Kyoto are pretty pricey it’s very good to have kitchen. They have tacoyaki party every friday night with free liquor. It was fun and easy to get along with other travelers. If I visit Kyoto again, I will definitely stay here again
Clean rooms, many bathrooms and showers available, Locker outside of room (use with your own lock), Kitchen and Lounge area for socializing / Just around the corner of Gojo Station and in walking distance to Kyoto station (approx. 10-15min). Staff was great and very kind. Would stay again if I come back to Kyoto :)
Big beds, close to subway ”
Roomy beds, but no locker next to bed. There are small lockers outside the room, with enough space for valuables. Decent kitchen area. Good Spanish restaurant nearby. Clean. Professional staff. Clothes dryer machine doesn't dry clothes well, eats up multiple 100 yen coins just to dry a normal sized load. Overall, good stay.
great great great, book it, book it now, and keep booking it, never stop booking it!!!!”
great great great, book it, book it now, and keep booking it, never stop booking it!!!! also as a side note, I feel it's important to mention that I'm quite tall six one and a half to be specific, and although I love history and culture, and I absolutely adore the cultural experience of sitting on the pillows in front of the very traditional Japanese low tables, I have long muscular legs and I'm structurally not built for sitting on the floor in some ways LOL, my legs keep falling asleep after about 5 to 10 minutes and I have to stand up and adjust every time, and because of this for people in my situation of being from European descent, who are almost all taller and bigger structurally, it's important to mention that there are absolutely no chairs at this facility, and after a day or two that actually became a fairly important factor as it is a very important to be comfortable when you're eating and there are no chairs so, I was at a position of constantly having to adjust my seating in order to find temporary comfortable positions, which can be physically taxing after a while, just be aware of this if you are in a situation that similar to me, although everything about this hostile and every other way is phenomenal that one factor became very important after a while even more, be well, Marcel🗾⛩️🛫🌨️❄️😄
Best Guesthouse ever!!!”
Shiori-an Guesthouse is definitely the best and cheapest hostel/guesthouse I've checked-in. Big bed, clean facilities, good living room, friendly staff who can speak in English very well. I'll definitely be back here. Thank you!!
Just turn a corner and you're at a bus stop and subway station. It's also close to a fastfood, a couple of restaurants, and convenience store. Staff are friendly and would not get tired of answering your questions. (Just ask!) They're especially helpful in giving directions.
