Party night and overnight stay. ”
Party night : excellent hot food and service. Good choice of music for disco and kept all drinks off dance floor. Well done! Room was good size with usual tea / coffee making facilities. No body lotion provided in bathroom only soap / body wash / shampoo. Breakfast: reasonable selection of hot and cold food served buffet style. Friendly helpful staff. Cons: Hotel has many steps and stairs which would make it difficult for the less able to get around.
booking system was a disaster, food was awful, not enough staff on reception.
Two Night stay”
Fantastic stay. Stunning new and amazing customer service.
Great country hotel”
Lovely hotel ”
Excellent - wedding ( buffet was of a poor standard) breakfast was good with a variety to choose from. .
On the whole our stay was great. However the rooms are somewhat tired and money needs to be invested in new furnishings to make this hotel 4 star.
Very disappointing for the money”
Unfriendly staff Poorly lit room Awful breakfast!! Never any mugs for coffee Terrible room on stairwell with view onto a walkway No safe in room
A very comfortable stay”
Fabulous location. Beautiful hotel. Friendly staff”
Everything was great. Got upgraded which was fantastic as it was my husbands birthday. Loved the whole experience. Was late checking out and the staff never complained.
Highly enjoyable relaxing break”
We enjoyed our Easter break here. Very busy as a full hotel for that time of year with 4 weddings in 3 days , which was enjoyable to watch such happy family occasions plus many golfers staying at the hotel to enjoy the wonderful golf course. Staff were excellent and extremely trustworthy as one evening after dinner , I left my jacket on the back of my chair in the main restaurant containing my car keys, home door keys, wallet, mobile phone . I did not miss my jacket until next morning . I went down to reception who duly handed me my jacket with all contents contained therein. Very reassuring to know how very trustworthy this hotel is. Only one minus point, some of the decor looks a little bit tired and think Puma management should invest money in this area. We would go back again without hesitation , coupled with the dramatic and beautiful scenery of the Peak National Park.
Most enjoyable, staff & hotel excellent”
Some difficulty locating rooms, but overall - excellent
Tired old girl.....”
We booked one night in February for my wife's 40th birthday inc. dinner and breakfast. We got married here in 2001 and had an excellent time. It appears - although the hotel has had several different owners in the period since - no real investment has been made within or outside the hotel. It's a shame as it could easily reach its apparent 4 star rating. However room decor is tired, signs of patch repairs completed poorly. Our heating was not working properly and the whole hotel was fairly cold. Everywhere really needs renovating to bring it up to standard. Staff were a little downbeat (no wide smile to greet you) and uniforms not all standard. The only plus points were the restaurant food which was great and the general grounds and location - which have always set this hotel apart. Come on Puma dig deep and restore this old girl to its former glory. I would rate this as just barely 3 star at present. Don't over pay or you will be dissapionted.
Great wedding venue”
We all really enjoyed our time at the hotel for my daughters wedding the staff were excellent although at breakfast the hotel was quite full you never got that impression when we were enjoying our reception.
relaxing enjoyable break”
A nice break with my daughter on her 25th birthday. Enjoyed the walking and peace of it all and the staff were really great. Spa was relaxing and we would stay again.
Luxury hotel, lovely surroundings - very relaxing”
Lovey experience can't wait to return. Surrounding beautiful. Food excellent.
Excellent overnight stay”
What a gem of a hotel. Wide, sweeping staircase from the foyer, friendly and approachable staff, didnt eat there as we were out for the evening but breakfast was tasty, unhurried and comprehensive with a civilised 11.30 finish on Sundays. Large car park more than adequate for golfers as well as residents. Lovely walks and fabulous views with well maintained grounds. Even though there was a large wedding party being catered for when we arrived the staff were friendly and concerned for our comfort. The room (a budget, online booking) was quite small but adequate with a sparkling clean bathroom, comfortable bed and quiet outlook for our one night stay. Will certainly stay again when we have more time to explore the area.
We had a lovely stay, having stayed on a number of occasions to play golf and enjoy the amenities in the area. Our son was married here. The staff are very friendly and efficient . Food and rooms are of a very good standard. We could recommend this hotel to anyone.
Beautiful hotel with beautiful surroundings, however just average overall due to low quality ingredients for English breakfast. Expected better from this standard of hotel. Also first room we were allocated had a really bad smell but we were moved to a better room immediately when we informed staff.
The Driveway up to the hotel is pitted and rutted with potholes. Upon arrival, it was easy to check in as you are merely 'processed'. The staff are quite cold and barely managed a smile. Walking up to the room, I was disgusted to see the remnants of somebody's breakfast sitting by the side of the hallway. For all the prestige and the cost of the room - there is not a hint of baggage service and the lift was jammed. Our Room was quite small (120) and there was a large industrial fan from the kitchen below blowing and rattling outside the window. I quickly asked them to change the room - which they did quite promptly. Apart from the lack of lighting in the rooms, they are quite small but well furnished and pleasant with a modern feel, without losing too much character. The bathroom was en-suite and was quite a good size and clean. The breakfast is quite expensive for what you get. £35 for two full english breakfasts with tea and juice.
