Good place for GREAT experience”
Very hospitable and helpful staffs. Thanks for everyone who made my trip so meaningful - especially Zeko-san and Fumi-san. Food is yummy. The winter is so warm, and the dark path was lit by a simple light of enlightenment :) heading to Kuonji in the early morning. Many thanks to Fumi-san for helping me with my luggage and sending me off via the steep "short cut". GREAT and memorable experience.

I ordered both dinner and breakfast from the resort. The food was really good and unique. The staffs are very friendly and speak good English. They recommended me to a few attractions and I’m thankful. Overall a pleasant stay.

Exceptional”
That is the best stay of the whole area. Very warm and inviting atmosphere. Food was delicious with local specialties like Yuba. You can try temple beer ! The place in itself is magical, you literally live inside the temple. Location is nearby a famous temple. During the stay can try different taiken (experience) as they say, like kimono dressing etc.

Wonderful staff”
Everyone here so nice and the garden view from your room was such a wonderful surprise - I would love to come back again. The mountain is beautiful and temples are just stunning - if you are curious to see some of japans country side and forests this is the place to explore. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Amazing experience”
The most fantastic place - we had a totally magical time. Difficult to get to (don't use the telephone number in your satnav) but well worth it. The food, the garden, the people, the ceremony in the morning. Can't recommend it enough.

unforgettable stay”
My stay at Shukubo Kakurinbo was one of the highlights of my trip. The atmosphere and staff were phenomenal. Everyone was very friendly and patient whenever language barriers arose. I'm not sure that many non-Japanese visitors come to the guesthouse which is a shame because it's a wonderful experience in an underappreciated part of Japan that offers incredible hospitality, sights, food and great Fuji vistas. The Tokyo-Kyoto-Osaka corridor is great but places like Shukubo Kakurinbo offer an equally amazing experience. I can't stress enough how relaxing this place was and I hope to return. I would be foolish not to mention the food here. The dinner in particular was one of the best dining experiences of my life. Incredible flavour and a great view of the garden. The dinner itself is almost worth the room price. If I had one suggestion I would say that the owners may want to put up an english sign where the property begins to aid foreigners in finding the place.

Cosy temple lodge with tasty vegetarian fare”
When we booked to stay one night at Shukubo Kakurinbo, we didn't know what to expect since there weren't any review on Agoda (at that time) We've been traveling around Yamanashi for work and needed a quiet place to recharge for the last night of our trip. Firstly, it's advisable to drive to the lodge, due to its not-so accessible location. There is a local bus service from the train station but it's infrequent. And you need to walk up a steep hill to get to the lodge. Not ideal for travelers with heavy luggage. The lodge was converted from a temple dormitory for monks but the interior looks as cosy and lovely as a typical ryokan (Japanese inn) We reserved their dinner set in advance (a must) which turned out to be a good idea since we arrived late and were too tired to venture out for food. The nearest town to find food is about a 15-20 minute stroll from the lodge but we're not sure what time the restaurants close. Dinner turned out to be a sumptuous vegetarian "kaiseki" affair with a selection of exquisite dishes like fried natto patties (delicious), yuba tofu skin marinated with rice vinegar, tofu-stuffed tomato soup, tempura vegetables and finished off with yummy homemade tofu ice-cream topped with a choice of three homemade fruit preserves. At 3000yen per person, the set meal is a steal. As some reviewers said, it's worth staying at Shukubo just for the food! The shared bath comes with a 'wine' hot spring bath which eased fatigued muscles. Breakfast was equally scrumptious - a traditional fare with nori-layered omelette, shoyu-marinated beans, cold tofu and natto. Our room and the dining area look out to an exquisite Japanese garden with singing birds ( in the morning). The impressive Kuon-ji temple with its 289-staircase and gigantic posts is a must-visit, and is a 15-minute stroll from Shukubo. We would definitely return for a longer stay next time round.
