A Day in the Mae Taeng Mountains”
Thai Air Asia had special rices for their new route, Khon Kaen to Chiang Mai and Thai Rent-A-Car had a promotion for renting an Eco car, so it was a no brainer. We were trying to find a unique several days in the mountains north of Chiang Mai and found Sibsan when searching Agoda's available hotels/resorts. Sibsan sounded so good that we decided to try and rented a room for 2 days. Then Agoda asked if we wanted to upgrade to an Executive villa for a nominal fee and we took it. Best decision ever. What a beautiful resort situated next to the Mae Taeng Elephant Park. I have never seen a swimming so huge and so unique that it looks like a lake in Google's Satellite view. The y also have a sightseeing tower to view the area from over a 100 feet in the air. Classic! Even though we both like traditional Thai food, the restaurant's meals were very good for Westerner style foods. The resort seems to cater to foreigners not Thais. Their breakfast buffet was excellent. So all in all a great setting for 2 quiet days. Oh yes, every villa is a separate building and many of them are poolside.
Lovely setting, perfect getaway”
My stay here was incredible. I have already booked again for another trip! I searched the bookings for weeks to find a promo because without one, this place is outrageously expensive for someone with my budget. Sibsan was the ultimate oasis in this beautiful part of Thailand. A friend and I traveled from Chiang Mai to Mae Taeng and in the morning visited Chiang Dao. Sibsan was perfectly in the middle, and an excellent place for us to relax and have some time to chill out from being in the business of the city. The staff was friendly and remembered everything, including returning a water bottle to us that we left at the coffee shop, which was probably our favorite part of the grounds. I left my camera card in the hotel room and it was promptly mailed to me thanks to the attentiveness of the staff. I would only comment on the lunch and dinner selections as they could have been a little better. The Thai food options were delicious, but the western food could use a little work. No reason not to return, however, I will simply order the Thai options. Thank you for everything, Sibsan!
Come experience the real Thailand.....”
This might be the most amazing resort I have stayed at before. Nestled about an hour north of Chiang Mai in the rolling hills, farmlands and Jungle you find this great resort. Right next door to Mae Taeng elephant park. If you are looking for adventurous activities this is the place to stay. Close to zipline, rafting, atv's. Tiger Kingdom, Long Neck village, Monkey School and other activites. Great spa and breakfast. The rooms are amazing and there is a lot of exploring to do just around the resort. They have a coffee house, library, gym, organic farm, beautiful gardens, lookout tower, river views, etc. The Spa was great. My girlfriend and I received couples Thai massages. I hope we get a chance to stay here in the future again.
Sibsan delivered!!!!”
I loved the Sibsan Resort &Spa. I have traveled for most of my life , but this was my first trip to Asia. My cottage was literally on the Elephant walking trail and it was an incredible experience. Due to the room design I could always have privacy and not ever feel closed in a room, quite the contrary .....I had just enough of the natural jungle , which is very well maintained to feel natural but still absolutely . Lovely all around. The only disappointment , well we had 2... One was out of the resorts control, but while my adult daughter was on a morning run through Mae Teang, she stopped and bought a bottle of water. She realizedabout20 minutes later that she had been short changed and went back to the store to correct it. They denied it and basically clawed her the liar. Really is was only a couple USD, but not the point we expected or hoped the Resort might talk to the store . But they too said nothing could be done. Mind you we do not speak Thai and we are in a remote village. Second thing is the hotel does not do a good job of documenting the payment for excursions . I paid $9,0000 but for 2 excursions which were great, but upon check out they had one of them on the bill. Unfortunately The way they do it is you pay the front desk, they give you a slip which you give to the actual guide or person with the excursion...I had nothing to show the payment I made. The solution is to use a credit card, but was told it adds 3% to the fee, so you see the problem. I would stay here again in a minute, I would however insist on a copy of the slip with the paid stamp. After about almost 30 minutes of me saying no, no, no I paid for both excursions at the same time, blah, blah, blah. They finally found the "missing" other slip . Just check the details on the closing statement and get a signed something before you pay or walk away.
Tranquil Getaway Embraced by Elephants”
Made our trip to Chiang Mai memorable as we stayed at 2 very different hotels during our trip. If you love nature and need to get away from the city life, Sibsan Resort & Spa is the place to go for sure. The service was so warmly attentive yet un-intrusive. The villa we stayed was so spacious and private. The resort do need some minor fixing and tender loving care though as the private pool lights were not functioning during our stay and some outdoor wooden planks were broken. That being said, these are small trivial things as the entire experience at Sibsan was so remarkable. Highly recommended for families and couples looking for a romantic getaway.
Ideal place for a relaxing time!”
We simply loved our four nights at the Rawee Waree Resort and Spa....lovely landscaping, spacious individual villas, good food, lovely large swimming pools and simply the most serene place to be at in Chiang Mai. All smile staff and always made sure we were looked after....English was a bit of problem sometimes but they tried their best....we eventually understood how to communicate by speaking slowly and with gestures. The front desk was good and really helpful. Elephant park was right next door with loads to offer for a days trip....worth a full package with elephant ride, ox cart ride, elephant show, buffet lunch and bamboo rafting. Best part is that we get free transfers from the hotel whereas if you come from the city you'd have to spend a lot for a taxi. The resort is in Mae Tang and about an hour away from the main city....but if you want the elephant park, long neck tribal village or the 27 line Zip Line you'll end up here and probably three times since you can't do all in one day. No restaurants nearby so eating at the resort is a must but worth it and not very expensive either. We tried a local place too recommended by the resort and it served us the best Thai food....transport cost us 1000 baht but I guess it was okay to try it once. The resort itself is divine with a very traditional feel amidst manicured lawns. The main feature has to be the swimming pool and warm jacuzzi. The pictures here turn out heavenly and the feel is tha same. Very tranquil! We loved being here and still miss our lovely time here with our two year old who misses the room and the pool the most! Would love to return again someday. Highly recommend for honey mooners who want privacy and comfort alike.....great for children too.
Perfect for a peaceful retreat in lush greenery ”
I would definitely recommend staying at Sibsan Resort & Spa for a peaceful getaway with family or friends! However, if you're hoping to do activities in the main city area, it's better to stay in a hotel in the main city of Chiang Mai as transportation out to the main city is very expensive from Sibsan resort due to its distance. Although Sibsan is located right next to an elephant camp and an elephant park, I personally would not recommend visiting them as the place does not seem to prioritize the welfare of the elephants and is much more geared towards making profits off of tourists looking for new experiences. There are other places nearer to the city center which run the camps/parks in a more ethical manner, treating the elephants with respect. Choose Sibsan if all you want to do is to rest & relax to your heart's content! The place has an amazing view as it is set amongst lush greenery!
A Lovely Retreat”
the rawee waree resort is an absolutely beautiful resort set in the mountains of mae taeng, about 40 kilometers from chiang mai. the individual villas are so nicely decorated and spacious. ours was located beside a quiet part of the pool with a private porch with table, chairs, and lounge. the staff was very friendly and the spa was great. fantastic pool area and a good restaurant.
Peaceful Seclusion”
We found the Sibsan Resort to be a little piece of heaven! So quiet and peaceful, we felt like we were the only ones there. The staff was friendly and attentive. My only complaint would be that I did not realize it was located so far from Chiang Mai, as in over an hour away! If this had not been my first visit to Chiang Mai I wouldn't have minded. Perfect for the traveler who has been and seen the sights in CM and is looking for a peaceful place to escape. The pool is the biggest pool I have seen, and pretty much unused. My family and I have fond memories of our stay in Sibsan and speak frequently of returning someday.
Thank you very much for your your valuable feedback and we sincerely appreciate your time for doing so. We regret to learn that the location of the resort is a bit far from the city and it bothers for first visiting but we are grateful that your overall stay was nice. We look forward to welcoming you back when you are next in Chiang Mai. Sarinda Front Office Manager
Great villas, lovely pools, poor management”
we booked our 3 night stay at rawee waree after consulting the agoda reviews as well as the hotel website, and we were very excited to have our r&r as well as get our dose of adventure. however, upon arriving at the location, we were disappointed to hear that many of the activities were not being offered due to the weather and low season. we were informed by senior management that they could arrange for transportation down to mae rim where we could do some of the activities for a cost of 2,500 baht, just for transportation! we feel that if the hotel could not offer the majority of activities it advertises, they should in the least be able to take us somewhere where we could do it. they were advertising mae rim but at the added cost. also, some of the staff informed us many activities were cancelled, and then the next day we were told that they were running. there was a complete miscommunication in the flow of information through management, we found. needless to say, we did our own research and found chiang mai adventures, a company who picked us up and dropped us back. we were able to go atving and whitewater rafting at less than than the cost that rawee was charging us just for atving! and we had a great time. we had booked a deluxe room but got upgraded to a superior villa by the pool, which we absolutely loved. the pools and jacuzzi were lovely and relaxing. due to low season, the hotel had only one dining option for meals, however we found this ok as the food was fantastic. we did authentic thai food some nights and italian others. the breakfast buffet was a decent spread. we would definitely come back here again, and would definitely recommend the resort, but next time we will be doing our own research and booking our own activities on the side.
Wonderful getaway!”
We had a wonderful time at the Rawee Waree Resort and Spa for a weekend getaway. We live in Chiang Mai, and have experienced many of the 4* and 5* hotels in town, but were looking for something different. I was a bit worried at first, when I realized that the hotel seemed very full, and indeed, Chiang Mai University was having a faculty retreat at the resort. However, the staff were anticipating our arrival and greeted us with a complimentary upgrade to a secluded, quiet Residence villa on the far edge of the property with a lovely view of the river. We enjoyed every minute of our stay in our villa and our private plunge pool! The Residence villas were hard to beat, arranged as a cluster of 3 villas around a plunge pool. The other two villas were unoccupied during our time at the resort, so we had the pool all to ourselves. The resort is a bit out of Chiang Mai (probably 1 hour from CNX), but situated in the heart of the mountains around some of the Mae Teang elephant camps. Lovely experience!
Fantastic view in resort”
we love the natural view and quiet, besides, there's a large swimming pool just outside the villa. further, the mae taeng elephant park is very close to the resort. we enjoyed the resort and had a good time in elephant park at the same time. the only one inconvenience is it's a bit far from chiang mai airport, we spent $900 baht(taxi fee) and 40 minutes to reach the resort. next time, we'll spend 2-3 days in rawee waree for our vacation.
Lovely place~”
We stayed here after being in Chiang Mai for a few nights, and we found it a welcome respite from the busy city. It took about an hour and 15 minutes to get up there, but the roads were good and felt fairly safe. The grounds are beautiful, and the setting is peaceful. We didn't end up doing the tours nearby because we just wanted some R&R at that point, but the hotel is right next door to elephant riding, oxcart rides, the Karen village tribe, etc. The room was spacious, clean and charming and the food was good. We absolutely recommend Sibsan Resort.
Good stay”
Good stay in Sibsan Resort. Just one hour drive from Chiang Mai old town to the resort. Good location with beautiful view. Swimming pool is very pretty and just outside the villa. The resort only has one restaurant and one cafe bar. No other stores to buy some snack food. The resort is very close to Elephant Riding and Jungle Flight which can be booked in advance in the resort reception. The Jungle Flight is very excited and worthy to have a try.
Best place to relax”
We live in Chiang Mai and we stayed in Rawee Waree Resort and spa for couple days in August. It takes about 45 minutes by driving from town. The room was very nice and clean. We stayed in a Deluxe room with private pool. There's also a terrace by the room, where we could see elephants, Mae Tang river and mountain views. Many elephants walked through Mae Tang river and past our terrace all day. The coffee shop and the sheep farm in hotel are recommended to visit and take pictures!!!
Nice Hotel but it to far away from town”
Sibsan Resort & Spa Maeteang are a country side hotel, it is far away from downtown, so you must have rent a car if you like to visit other place in Chaing Mai (drive for one hours). Because this hotel are in far location, so the price are very good to compare to other, I am living in private pool villa, I pay less than 130US, that is very happy for me. One suggestion, don't try the spa there, the spa in this hotel are pool
SibSan Resort in Thailand! The staff are practically angels make it feel like you are in HEAVEN!!!”
Solo traveler on a search for more culture and exerience. This property has everything to offer from the naturalistic state of the exteriors of the room with the aesthetics and ammenities of a 5 stat hotel on this inside. Truly amazing in every sense of the form. I Think that you havent truly exerinced a cultural experience in Thailand with the concierge/service of a magnificent 5 star hotel! I will stay here many more times throughout my life! Thank you Sibsan Resort & Spa
4days of quiet and refreshing stay”
Quiet place to stay, super fresh air and surrounded by elephants and ox. A little bit off the main Mae Taeng town, and no free shuttle or transport provided to go to the mae Taeng town area for the interesting market/night market. This can be an improvement for future. As it's off the town, there were limited choices of eating places. Almost everyday we did in-house dining. The only restaurant and the coffee house by the side of the river serve very good local thai food and western food. However, their prices are much higher than the restaurants in Chiangmai city. Limited spread of breakfast, we were bored by the 2nd day. The room is spacious and clean. Very few insects despite the facts that surrounded by forest, river and elephants. The watch tower is a great place to view sunrise. However the extra bed with thin mattress is a little pricey for my 6years old child (1500baht/night before VAT) Overall, a quiet and refreshing stay.
Great getaway amongst the hills of Chiang Mai”
The Rawee Waree Resort (now Sibsan) is located wonderfully in the hills north of Chiang Mai. It is a great getaway with beautifully maintained grounds. The hotel is designed very well such that although there are many units, you feel as though you are secluded enough from your neighbours to feel alone. The food at the resort is good, but not fantastic. Some things (like lattes, fresh juice, and homemade cookies) are great but the buffet, although good, is lacking. I have come to realize that the problem with buffets is that it tends to focus on quantity (volume and number of options) rather than quality. I would much rather fewer choices but higher quality. For the chef, it much be much nicer to know someone asked for something to be made rather than making mass quantities to fill plates.
Great Location in the Jungles of Mae Taeng”
Sibsan was great and we would've given it 5 stars all around, but we did have one negative thing happen. More on that in a second. The staff is great and very friendly. The food is wonderful. The pool and jacuzzi were great. The room was wonderful and private. They gave us boxed breakfasts for our early flight out and were very helpful in helping us organize our trips to Chiang Mai and the airport and called in taxis for us. Everything was great, with the exception of our spa experience. The massage itself was heavenly, but a few hours after the massage, we noticed that we had a bunch of bug bites on our legs and a few on our arms. Given that we had been fine before the massage and hadn't had any problems with our rooms, we knew that it had to be from the massage. We did some research and can confidently say that our bites looked just like what bed bug bites look like, therefore, we believe that we were bitten by bed bugs in the spa. We informed the staff and they did a deep cleaning of the area so hopefully no one else has this experience. For this reason, the cleanliness rating gets one star. It really put a damper on our stay. Our room itself was great and very clean and cozy. Our spa experience was the only negative thing we have to say about our stay. Other than that, it was absolutely amazing and is a beautiful location.
