An oasis in the heart of Sigiriya”
The Sigiriya village hotel resort was recommended to us via a friend, so we had already anticipated that it was going to be fairly nice. However, this resort exceeded our anticipations considerably. Upon arrival, the staff were friendly and attentive, offering us a welcome tea in the lobby. The superior cottage we were booked into was spacious and fashionably decorated. There was a little porch area in the front of the cottage that overlooked an organic garden (an ideal place for a nice evening cocktail after a day of sightseeing and climbing “the rock”). As the hotel was quite busy, the dinners were buffet style. Since my wife and I are not huge fans of buffets, we opted to order a la carte and the staff were cordial and accommodating. The food served to us that evening was fresh (vegetables from their own organic garden we were told) and delicious (the deviled dishes were particularly good). However, we did try the buffet on the second evening and were very pleased with the wide selection of food. The buffet table was well maintained and presented with fresh cooked options as well. The only slight complaint we had was about the wine list. We felt that it was a little overpriced (compared with other hotels we stayed at including the luxurious Galle Face Hotel in Colombo). It would be nice if they offered some slightly more affordable (and yet still decent) wines on the list. Nonetheless, our stay at Sigiriya Village was very enjoyable and well worth the booking price.
Sigiriya Village is in a great location with easy access to the main tourist site (sigiriya rock). The hotel grounds are amazing, quiet and tranquil location, like a little village surrounded by wildlife. The room is a fairly basic villa, but big and clean. Ours had a little pond containing turtles and plenty of fish and monkeys swinging in the trees above our head. We ate all meals at the hotel restaurant. The buffet consisted of a range of food types and was good. The service was also pleasant and efficient. Overall I would recommend this place, and go back.
Wonderful resort in perfect surroundings”
Sigiriya Village is magnificent. The grounds are huge and bursting with plants, ponds and wildlife. The rooms look modest from the outside but inside they are huge, beautifully decorated and magnificent. The restaurant and pool has views or Sigiriya Rock. The staff make the stay completely unforgettable. They are perfect, attending to your every needs. The food is extensive, tasty, varied and very well priced. I want to go back and stay there again and again. I am planning my next trip and want it to be for a few days to really enjoy the place.
Location, food and views”
The staff were attentive and friendly. The food was excellent. The room we stayed in felt a little tired but we didn't spend that much time there as the purpose was to visit Sigiriya rock. The hotel is quite close to the rock so you can maximize your time there. If we returned to Sri Lanka we would stay at Sigiriya Village again
A perfect place to stay for exploring Sigiriya! This place has many room but is arranged in such a way that you don't feel you in a bit, commercial property. It is called 'village' because the buildings are arranged around gardens with water features, gardens and even a rice paddy! There is a nice pool area with views of Sigiriya (although this is next to the restaurant so you can have an audience watching your pool side antics!). There is a nice dining room and bar area- plenty of vegetarian options too, although limiting for vegans! The staff were wonderful in preparing extra options though and I felt that the chef was my new best friend by the end of the week! The staff here were very hospitable. Wifi was available in the main areas but not in rooms. We would definitely stay here again!
Thank you very much for your wonderful comments. We were glad to be able to serve you during you stay with us. Thank you for your sentiments regarding the location, the rooms, restaurant & our team. With regards to the wi fi, we are currently working on extending the same to all areas of the hotel making it convenient for all our guest. We look forward to serve you again in future.
Pleasant stay, close to Sigiriya ”
We enjoyed our stay at Sigiriya Village. VERY close to Sigiriya rock. It is very good for people who like trees, plants, birds - like a mini botanical garden with trees labelled and bird information. Great views of Sigiriya rock from the main lobby, pool, restaurant bar area. Wifi is ONLY in this main area. Booking transport can be done outside of the hotel for much more reasonable prices. Food was great as were restaurant staff. Pool is quite small compared to what we had at previous hotels but still great.
Nice and quiet hotel (in low season)”
The hotel room was comfortable and really quite spacious. It was nicely decorated, but it is not a new hotel and it shows in the tarnished bathroom fittings, the chipped tiles and the antiquated TV. As a claimed 4 star hotel and at over US200 during peak periods (I paid for off peak period), it could do with a bit of a make over (I think this may already be happening from some of the renovation work happening to some sections of the hotel). The hotel does have helpful and friendly staff (though the higher up the command, the less they smile) and they do make an effort to make your stay comfortable. The included breakfast was a buffet on the first day I stayed there but ala carte on the second day as there weren't enough guests staying. It's not bad if you avoid the 'western' food. The hotel claims to have wi-fi in public areas and internet access in the rooms. This was not the case as the system was down and it was indicated that it would not be repaired. The tennis courts are also disused - not that anyone would really want to use it anyway. The hotel has good access to Sigiriya rock - and that's it!
Tropical village paradise”
the grounds of this village resort were divine, with ponds with turtles and gardens, a pool view of sigiriya and open air buffet to die for. our villa was down the back - quite a walk but so peaceful. staff toting umbrellas were busy delivering room service with a smile. perfect location from sigiriya and the hotel has a fantastic ayurveda spa on location.
Beatiful setting, luxurious bedrooms”
This hotel had the best accommodation we stayed at during our two week tour in Sri Lanka. The hotel's setting with beautiful flowers and a lake and views of the Sigiriya rock is spectacular. The tastefully furnished individual bungalows offer privacy, and comfort. The staff were very helpful and the hotel offers various ayurvedic services, too. Dining was superb, great value for money. The local sights are 15 minutes walking distance from the hotel.
Very pretty hotel and great location”
This place was very nice, perfect for a little getaway in a busy Sri Lanka. Located 10 min drive from the Sigiriya Rock entrance. The food buffet for breakfast and dinner was really good! A lot of options not just Asian or Sri Lankan food :) the only con is the room smelled very old and the AC filter needed to be changed.. we had to open our windows and blast the fan so that the smell could air out but it didn't really help. So my only issue with this place was the old smell in the room. Everything else was great
Good view, beautiful hotel”
Good: The hotel is the nearest to the Sigiriya Rock. From the swimming pool, we can see the Rock. Nice view. It's a beautiful and clean hotel with a lot of monkeys. If you take the family with children like us, it's a good choice. Bad: The swimming pool was closed after seven pm. And it's dirty. The buffet is expensive and we couldn't find any delicious food to eat.
very nice location, great food!”
the hotel is a big green and nicely arranged area with many bungalows on it. each bungalow is nicely furnished, pool is rightin front of the restaurant and you have a view on the sigiriya rock easily. the staff is nice but not efficient at reception (it takes 30 min to get your check out done even when you call them to prepare it in advance) the restaurant proposes daily buffets which are very good, and very different from one day to another with an excellent service. i recommend this hotel
A Great place to stay”
I have been travelling to Sri Lanka usually twice each year since 2012 and always try to include Sigiriya Village into my itinerary. The ambience, location, friendly staff, excellent food, all make Sigiriya Village a very special place. One of my favourite hotels in Sri Lanka.
Relaxing, very comfortable, peaceful”
Excellent! I would go back. I loved the tranquility of the place, the gardens and privacy of the bungalow cottages. The rural setting was very pretty and very relaxing. The Ayurvedic Spa (my first) was a huge self-indulgent treat! Excellent meals - the buffet setting allowed guests to serve themselves quickly. Location close to Sigiriya Rock was a big plus - little travel involved.
Great location, quiet, very pretty resort. ”
We had a great stay there. I would definitely go back. Sigiriya Rock is a must see if you are in the area, and this hotel is a very peaceful and pleasant place to stay very close to the park. The restaurant had some of the best food that we ate in Sri Lanka, and the staff were quite friendly. The rooms are a little dated, but very clean and comfortable, a good value for what we paid through Agoda.
This was a very pleasant overnight stop before walking up Sigiriya Rock the next day as I travelled around Sri Lanka. The room was very comfortable and the dinner + breakfast buffets were good. Very good value in my opinion at the price I paid via Agoda.
There is no wifi in the rooms. That is now such a sucky thing. Please update the property. Food and buffet breakfast were good. They also gave staff quarters to our driver. Its just a few mins drive from Sigiriya rock face. The entire property is covered in greenary and was lovely. Staff were courteous and welcoming.
Nice clean cottages !”
I stayed this hotel one night and really happy about the stay. It is not the same as it shown in photos. Better than it shows. Old type. There are more than 200 cottages type rooms. Rooms are well cleaned and staff is friendly. It is really worth. (-) TV is old (-) no coffee maker (+) very close to sigiriya fortress (+) lot of shops available within 200m - 1.5 km & can find anything you need. (+) two types of breakfast. American type and standard sri lankan type. you will get the chance to taste them both. (+) Location is pretty good if you are travelling by a car. Would stay again in this hotel. Cheers!
We loved our stay at Sigiriya Village Hotel”
We really loved our stay at Sigiriya Village hotel. We would like to go back to that hotel for a longer stay. Staff was nice and helpful, surrounding was fabulous and we enjoyed the stay. Highly recommend this hotel to any person.
Perfect location and relaxing atmosphere”
We staid two nights at this lovely hotel located at an arm's lenght from the Sigiriya rock, Sri Lanka's N.1 tourist attraction. The rooms were large and comfortable, nicely decorated and calm. We enjoyed the pool which was a treat at the end of the day spent in the hot humid climate visiting ruins. The breakfast was tasty and the staff really welcoming. Perfect location to visit Dambulla (1 h), Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa (1,5 h)
