Awesome place! ”
Love the lodging! Love that its away from the city (no problem for me and my friend because we have arranged our own transport). Nic was extremely helpful when we had to liaise with him on getting to the hotel and the hotel staff, Nijat, was very helpful In attending our needs. Room was spacious but we were extremely cold (because we came in a late december) but the staff attended to that by placing us a portable warmer by our beds. Great place and if I’m given a second chance to visit turpan, i will definitely choose Silk Lodge again!

Comfortable stop on the Silk Road”
The Silk Road lodges are set in a pretty vineyard. The rooms are stylish and comfortable. The staff speak good English and are friendly. It's a short walk from the minaret, and a 25 minute walk into town. All in all, a great option in Turpan. Only slight criticism would be some slightly weird breakfast options: muesli served without any bowls, milk or yoghurt. But aside from that, top notch.

A wonderful property with a soul”
Silk Road Lodge is a delightful 5-room boutique hotel. The property is a local-style building in the middle of the vines. It has unusually clean and comfortable rooms for Xinjiang, with good beds and thick carpeting. Furthermore, a reasonably fast Wi-Fi access is available throughout the hotel which adds to convenience. In the evening, one can have a drink on the roof terrace watching the stars. Chinese red wine is reasonably priced at RMB 90 a bottle for a fair quality bottle. The fact that the hotel is located on the side of town is a huge plus provided one has their own transport, as this is a quiet area which guarantees an excellent sleep quality. The manager permanently cares about the wellbeing of his guests in an efficient and friendly way. His outstanding command of English makes communication easy –a rare thing in this part of China! However, there is still some room for improvement in this property for it to become perfect: - Breakfast was a disappointment. It offered much too little choice and eggs could not be cooked properly. - Though my room was close to Western standards, the bathroom had approximate finishings and a bad quality shower. This is a pity and gives a bad impression. This being said, Silk Road Lodge is a wonderful property with a soul –a one of a kind boutique hotel in Xinjiang which makes a nice difference with the usual large impersonal Chinese-style hotels.

Two of the staff (husband and wife) speak excellent English and were very helpful to make our stay satisfying. We were able to communicate what places interest us and they kindly directed us to the right places, thus making our visit to Turpan a memorable one.

Exceptional”
Although the location is bit a distance way from down town area, the lodge offered a great time in during my stay. Young local manager with his perfect English gave me no anxiety compared to any 5 star hotels with poor language communication within this region. Vine yards spreading out on the front, sunny-side-up egg and good coffee gave me a great run-up time in the morning. Because of its tank size, hot shower water lasts only 10 min. The lodge is now constructing more rooms beside the main building.

Best option in Turpan”
The hotel is very well situated in a nice area of Turpan surrounded by vineyards. Some facilities are not very well maintained but it’s overall worth the money and probably the best place to stay in Turpan.

All the pros have been mentioned. Just note that we were in private tour hence we don’t have problem with transport. The lodge is not in the city centre.

Above average”
This hotel was more expensive than the other modern luxurious hotel we stayed in Turpan. There was a small alley to lead to the hotel but it was difficult to find at night in the dark.. Breakfast was mediocre. Our room has high ceiling and big. My main disappointment was that it was located away from the city center. Staff was nice though.

Fantastic Staff”
First of all, I really want to thank to the staff of the hotel! They are so friendly and very helpful. Even though we had the language barrier, they were very patient and smiling all the time. The owner speaks very good English and helped me arranging the tour for the surrounding area. The guide she contacted was wonderful, too! The room is very clean and the surrounding area is very beautiful! I strongly recommend this hotel.

An unusual charming hotel ”
This lovely small hotel is situated around courtyards and offers peaceful personalized spaces for rest and conversation. The restaurant has excellent local homemade foods, and the breakfast was varied, full of local dishes as well as the dried fruits and nuts of the region. It's a bit of a drive from anywhere, but if you have arranged transportation in advance, that's no problem.

The hotel is located in grape-field about 20 min. by walk from the city. To eat outside under grapes is really very nice. The food was very good, the rooms are clean and very spacious. Very friendly owner and staff.

Extremely disappointing”
We arrived very late at night because we were stuck in Urumqi in a snow storm and there was a sandstorm in Turpan. the hotel finally said they could send a driver by 6 pm so we waited in the hotel lobby with 4 kids and eventually the driver arrived at 9.15 pm ...... The rooms werent clean by any standard, apart from the sheets, and considering they had just opened for the season, there was no excuse. The breakfast in the morning was ok, nothing special, no drinks for the children, very basic, but that is fine. The rooms also had no drinking water, which considering where we were, I would think essential. Staff was very unhelpful in dealing with our problems and requests. What a shame, the location would be perfect to turn it into a luxury bed and breakfast, but it's nowhere near that, just a mediocre chinese B&B

This hotel has a nice location and I can see what it tries to be, but it still has a long way to go. It looks like a nice Uighur house from the outside made of adobe but when coming closer and having look in the rooms you realize the decorations and furniture to be the typical no taste chinese and construction details to be as horrible as anywhere else. Still it is quiet and despite the totally unreasonable price (you can get Hilton downtown Shanghai for this price) it is still the best choice. As long as you can bear the charge, go for it. Other options are loud chinese hotels on main streets with stinky cigarette smoke rooms. As soon as someone else in the area realizes how to run a hotel, this one will go downhill (unless they renovate), but at the moment it enjoys its no competition place.. Oh and it has a nice rooftop terrace, take your breakfast there.

A nice stay on the Silk Road”
We strongly recommend this place for travelers staying few days in Turfan to discover the surrounding area and the main of the city (Turfan museum is close and must be visited). The family staff is very kind and always ready to help you, both Askar and his wife speak English well and can give good advices to visit the best places around. If you need a good English speaking driver, ask for Tahir.

Wonderful atmosphere in the middle of grapes. Beautiful terraces for dinner and relaxing on the roofers. English speaking manager, who has great knowledge and will support you with all matters of your journey. Free use of the washing machine!
