Family Room with Balcony
Stayed 2 nights in September 2017
Cheap and comfortable stay”
I booked the Family Room with Balcony. It is basically a maisonette with two levels and there is only 1 entrance on the lower level. There is a flight of steep (VERY steep) stairs in the room leading to the second level. Each level came with its own queen bed and an en-suite bathroom. *Do note that the room on the lower level is much less spacious than that on the upper level. The air-conditioning units are quite dated but they still function well. WIFI is free and strong. My booking came with breakfast and it was a simple buffet with toast, fruits, fried rice, eggs (the eggs are not displayed, you will have to order directly from the waiters and state your preference: scrambled. fried or omelette), cereals etc... The hotel staff were friendly and assisted us with our requests. That included getting reliable tuk-tuk service to visit the S21 museum and Killing Fields ($18) and taxi to the airport on our last day ($12). From the hotel, you could walk to the river side, Central Market, Sorya Mall, Kandal Market and the Phnom Penh Night Market (the furthest will take you about 20 mins by walking) The only thing that made me uncomfortable was the neighbourhood (Doun Penh) that the hotel is situated in. It is just slight messy and not as clean as the Chamkar Morn area. It is fine, but I would prefer a more comfortable/quieter stay in Chamkar Morn, which is nearer to the Independence Monument.

Value for Money”
Room is spacious and clean. 15-20 min walking distance to Grand Palace, Night Market. Plenty of food selection at this area.

Basic Hotel, $2.00 Tuk Tuk to River”
Older and basic hotel near, but not on the river. Rooms basic but cater to your needs. Nice bathroom with all the condiments for your bathing. The bars and restaurants around the hotel are very good. The coffee guy across from the hotel has a good selection. With the money you save by not being on the river and paying the Tuk Tuks to go to the river everyday, just spend the extra money and stay on the river. That is where all of the action is anyway. All in all, a good hotel with a reasonable price. Surroundings nice but not up to par with hotels on the river. If you have the extra money available, use it for a hotel on the river. If not, this is a good place to stay.

Good value for money”
Have stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions and is suitable for a short 3-4 day stay. It is on a street that has a few beer bars & restaurants which is handy and there is no noise coming into the room from them at night time. And DON'T be misled by the review of Gail, this is not a sleazy street and is not full of hookers (not all ladies in PP are hookers Gail... maybe that was just you looking for them..??) and the hotel is NOT frequented by sleazy men either. This is a good value hotel that is clean & is safe which is only a 5 minute walk from the riverfront. However, i wouldn't bother booking with breakfast as there are so many better places for that.

Very disappointing”
After reading reasonable reviews, we chose this hotel based on those, as well as the fact that it had an elevator. We were travelling with our aged mother. Our original booking was for a family room and the stairs within the room were too steep for us to negotiate safely, and the staff WERE very good to change us to 2 rooms. They were also very good to be willing to extend our time, if necessary, without charging extra should we need it, as we had a medical emergency in Siem Reap and weren't sure if we could get there in time for our booking. But on the negative side, the hotel is right in the middle of what is a very sleazy street with prostitution all around including on the front portico of hotel. Also the staff were non attentive and especially the breakfast and desk staff. In my experience, Khmer staff are usually very respectful, but not here, as I guess, the place is 90% used by Western single men looking for a good time. I almost had my eggs thrown at me one morning. Never in Cambodia, after 14 visits, have I experienced such service. The rooms were clean enough, but the outlook terrible. We looked out on an old prison being knocked down and some very old local buildings. That in itself didn't worry us but it was very upsetting to see the lack of care from staff. Having said that, the cleaners and the porter who carried our bags up, were very sweet. As I said, everywhere else we went people were so lovely. The food was appalling and breakfast selection was at best poor, and cold and unappealing. Eggs were cooked on request, and whoever was cooking had no idea how to cook. Air conditioning in room was erratic at best, as was the hot water service. Air con in rest of the rather large hotel, was switched off, so our Mum who had been sick, couldn't even go and sit in dining area as it was way too hot, even with a fan. I would definitely not recommend this hotel. Do not be fooled, I have stayed in similar, safer area of Riverfront for less mon

I love it!!!”
Lovely room, great service. I found myself really enjoyed while staying in the hotel. I missed the breakfast as I had to leave too early in the morning. In general, it was a very good experience with Silver River Hotel. Definitely I will come back next time for longer stay. Btw, I would love to recommend Kabbas Restaurant within 5 mins walk from the hotel. Delicious food!!! Thank you.
