Lovely Hotel with Great Service. Nice Scenery Too!”
We stayed there for a night after arriving late from our flight. We were arranged a comfortable room with nice view of the garden and side view of the sea. Room is big for Hong Kong standard with all the necessary equipment and stuff for creature comfort there. We went down to the Blue Horizon cafe located beside the hotel lobby and happy to find that they are very friendly and offered us 2 hours complimentary internet access upon request. The sandwich and blueberry cheese cake was delicious and we had a nice walk along the beach that evening before going off to bed. I'm also very happy with the complimentary buffet breakfast offered as they offer true English and Chinese style breakfast. Though there is not much variety but it really hit the spot on with eggs, toast, baked beans, beacons and etc... available. There's also cereal and Chinese porridge available, breakfast that would make anyone's day. Life is slow and peaceful as there's a village located beside the hotel. You could really appreciate and enjoy the life that the residents here do. Cars could not access the road in front of the hotel and only bicycles can, making it more fresh and peaceful. So, don't be shocked if the taxi stops you behind the hotel as this is the closest to the hotel that they can get. The only downside was the internet access was not free and our room's wash basin is faulty and the shower's drainage was clogged. This was a common problem in most Hong Kong's hotel design as the contractors likes to use smaller drainage piping. Otherwise it would have been a perfect stay. Thank you for a great stay Silvermine Beach Resort. Would definately stay there again on my next visit
one of the most memorable holiday”
amazing stayed, that i had to cancelled our trip to shenchen(hotel paid for)n stay on in hongkong in lantau island for extra,3 nites here in silvermine beach resort, wildlife animals n beach front resort on lazy silvermine bay,no cars no high building no crazy shopping, just quietness, stillness n lots lots of biking around the island, healthy good quality holidays for family or honeymooners, small amazing local wet market just around the corner sell fresh seafood, flowers n good seafood local food with bay view with reasonable price. staff in here speak pefect english,,Abee was great help, and so convenience from here to visit giant budha,or just fishing from the pier..we would come back very soon to visit lantau island
The Silvermine Beach Hotel offered me the quietness and calmness which I could not find elsewhere in Hong Kong. It is located at the beach. I could see the sun rises and sets and the wind blowing at the beach. I hired a bike for a day and rode around the block which was relaxing and away from the crowded cities in Hong KOng. I had my dinner at the local primitive restaurant which gave me food with the good taste and value for money. It was quite a unique experience in Hong Kong as totally different from living the busy cities with so many people around you.
Great location to relax amidst the bedlam of HK”
I live in the hustle and bustle of Shanghai, so when I had to go to Hong Kong for a conference I knew that I didn't want more of the same. Silvermine Beach Hotel was the perfect oasis - a place where I could switch off from pollution and traffic noise, and just enjoy the smell of fresh air and the sound of the water lapping at the edge of the beach. As a hotel, it reminds me of the places I used to stay in the 70s when my family and I would go for beach holidays at home in Australia. It had the kind of tired decor that screamed 'you'll ruin me with sand, so why bother?'. Yes, it's dated and could do with some renovation, but my room was spotlessly clean. The water pressure in the shower was great, and the bed was....well, a Chinese hotel bed. On the down side, the room service finished at 11pm with no overnight snacks, so when I arrived starving from a late flight I had to hold my hunger til the next day. Equally, the breakfast didn't start til 7, and that was inconvenient for me as I had to leave the hotel before then to make my conference on time. Silvermine Bay is rather secluded, and it's fair to say there isn't a lot to do or buy there (another great attraction in my opinion). It is easily accessible by Ferry from Central and Discovery Bay (to Mui Wo pier and then a 10 minute walk). There are also a good selection of buses from Mui Wo to Tung Chung MTR station. I read a lot of other reviews that talk about being dropped 'in a dingy back street near the hotel' due to the vehicle restrictions, but anyone who has really travelled in Asia will recognise this aforementioned street as the real Asia, away from all the skyscrapers and the expat ghettos. Taxis can be booked from the hotel to pick you up a 2 minute walk from the hotel and take you to Tung Chung MTR and bus station. For me, a hotel is a place to sleep so I am not that fussed about the bells and whistles, It was a great escape from the lunacy of Shanghai and I will definitely return,
A Nice Hotel with Great View to The Sea”
The breakfast was always same menu, but nice. And all of the staffs were nice, good at speaking English too (very helpful because I didn't know any single phrase in local language). What I love most while staying there was enjoying the breakfast on the hotel's terrace (right in front of restaurant's exit door) and watching the sun rises every morning (I was staying there for 8 consecutive nights). It's a good place for honeymooners who want to enjoy romance in such quite place and also so close to the hype of Hong Kong metropolitan city (only 30 minutes by fast ferry with relatively cheap fare). Because it's located on Lantau Island, then it was so convenient to reach Disneyland or The Giant Budha etc by bus (which was always on-time and the fare was cheap too). The neighborhood was so safe, I was ever walking on 3AM alone and not feeling afraid at all. Will definitely stay there again next time I'll be visiting Hong Kong.
A lovely step back in time”
We arrived late at Silvermine after a winding trip from the airport. The reception was very welcoming despite the early hour of the morning and we were given a beach view room (rather than the hill view we booked). The rooms have clearly not been renovated since the hotel was built (in the 80s?) but they have a slight shabby but retro charm which is infectious - I even grew to love the avocado bathroom suite with the threadbare towels. It is quiet, clean and there is plenty of hot water. The buffet breakfast was more than adequate and fresh food was brought out regularly. The location on Lantau Island is unbeatable. It was a sunny day when we were there and we enbjoyed wandering along the beach and promenade (a far cry from the hustle and bustle of central HK). We will definitely be back for a long weekend to relax and explore more of the hotel and Lantau.
Visit in May 2010”
The staff at the Silvermine Beach Hotel are very friendly and accommodating. The rooms are clean and spacious and the view from our beach-front rooms were lovely. Mui Wo, where the hotel is located, is very convenient for the bus station for viewing the island and only ten minutes walk from the ferry terminal if you want to get to the bustle of Central. Lantau gives an alternative rural view of Hong Kong which is delightful. We were staying for a week, by the end of which we were somewhat bored with the breakfast which was the same every morning and very limited in choices for vegetarians. Similarly, the lunch and dinner menus had very little choice if you don't eat meat. However this is not too much of a problem as there are restaurants that serve good veggie food nearby. Overall this was a comfortable, clean, adequate hotel which represented very good value for money. This was my third visit and I would definitely stay there again. It was really nice to be remembered from my last trip 16 months ago and welcomed back.
Value for Money”
We (2 adult, 2 young kids age 5y & 6y) stayed there for 3 days 2 nights. The hotel is quite comfortable with all the facilities included (such as iron, iron board, kettle, hair dryer, fridge, etc). For me the room is okay for us as we only spent our time at the room for sleep. The whole day we spent our time at Disneyland HK. The only concern is about the distance from hotel to Disneyland. We have to take a bus (3M) at the ferry pier near the hotel. About 7 mins walk from the hotel. The journey from the hotel to Tung Shung Station takes about 45 mins. Then at Tung Shung Station, we take MTR to Sunny Bay station. At Sunny Bay Station changed to another MTR to Disneyland Resort. Bus 3M (Mui Wo)- MTR (Tung Shung)- MTR (Sunny Bay)- Disneyland Resort. Basically journey from hotel to Disneyland takes about 1 hour (1 way) by bus+2 MTR. Really not convenience for us with young kids but we did it! Silvermine Beach Resort is suitable for those who wants to get out from busy hectic city. If you plan to go to Disneyland, just stay in Disneyland Hotel or Novotel Citygate. From airport to Silvermine Beach Resort takes about 45 mins. The staff is really friendly & helpful.
Terrific stay, a great change of pace from the res”
Fabulous. The best beds out of 5 hotels in Hong Kong and a great spacious room. The only place we got English movies. The staff were helpful with directions for our trip to Tai O, the Big Buddha and the Cable ride. The only negative was breakfast, our first morning there was hardly any food left by 9.10 and they were very slow to put out more food so breakfast was not great. The other days were better. I would recommend staying at Silvermine Beach Hotel.
I needed a place to stay for the evening to catch a morning flight from HKG. Rather than stay in the airport or at very expensive airport hotels I looked for something I could afford on Lantau Island. This turned out to be a delightful hotel with a nice beach at a reasonable price. I wish I had more time to enjoy it. They also had good ferry service to Hong Kong but I didn't have time to try it out.
We enjoyed our stay at Silvermine. I found accommodation on Hong Kong Island quite expensive, therefore Silvermine on neighbouring Lantau Island was a good option for us, we simply took the 30mimute ferry across to Hong Kong Island. The ferry pier is only 5 minutes walk from the hotel. There were a few agoda comments about the south wing rooms being quite dated, which they are, however, during our stay(mid October 2012) we could see that they were ripping up and replacing carpet in the rooms and the gym was closed as it was being renovated. Great pool and breakfast and it's a lovely spot directly opposite the bay. Easy to get a taxi to the hotel from the airport and easy to catch a bus to Lantau's many attraction.
One boat ride to HKG central pier”
One boat ride and 5 minutes of the most romantic walks to silvermine beach resort. love the ambiance and the warm hospitality of the Filipino service crew, which always a smile! The rooms have mosquitoes in them as the area is quite infested with mosquitoes as its an island with pools of fresh water everywhere. bring your off! lotion/spray or bring citronella room spray to get rid of these! the beach front is still closed till 2018! so, i wont suggest any swimming! but, plenty of jogging trails and even waterfalls and hidden wonders! if you fancy a hike around lantau island, this is a nice layover!
The Hotel is beautifully situated on the beach and only a few minutes work from the Ferry and Bus terminals. If you want to get to the airport too- it's only two short and easy bus trips away if the direct buses are too early for you (which could save you time and money). It's a nice Hotel to stay a few days on your way to or from the Airport or longer if you want a peaceful beach holiday too. You can also use the buses with ease to do all the Island's tourist attractions too! Get a timetable form any Tourist Information Office... If you need the City it is only approx. 20 minutes by ferry to Hong Kong Island. It is quiet and peaceful (which feels so calm that it is almost unreal) and this provides a great balance/contrast to the vibrancy of Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. Highly recommended- especially when we visited in January (which is low season/excellent value... which all added to the ease). Breakfast choice was good, and although there are coments about the price of meals... as a resident, the discount provided made it comparable to the other tourist choices... and you can try a lot of more "local" eateries near the harbour- only minutes away.
Great location--right on the beach”
the hotel is located on lantau island. it is less than a five minute walk to the ferry. the front desk staff were pleasant and helpful. the room size was good. there was plenty of hot water and we had a view of the beach. there is a restaurant which has a large buffet nightly including western and chinese food as well as bbq. the price is very good for hong kong. the hotle however does need an update. we have stayed here before and the swimming pool has never been open.
this is my sixth time going to Silvermine Beach Resort for vacation and all my family members agree to come again next year. As a matter of fact, I and my members all found a lot of improvements there such as a new user-friendly safe box, newly painted wall, lovely chess desk, newly installed door lock system (to increase security on the ground floor) and I strongly recommend my friends and relatives to consider Silvermine Beach Resort.
I very much enjoyed my stay here. This establishment has been around for quite some years so it's got a lot of decor from the 70's but has been maintained very well and they have experienced staff. Free breakfast vouchers-- which were important because food is not available close by. This hotel was a nice break from the craziness of Hong Kong. It sits right at the beach and is only a 15 minute walk to the bus terminal/ferry which makes for a great base to explore Lantau Island or hop back into the main city.
Great for a relaxing stopover”
We especially enjoyed the quiet yet attractive environment of the Silvermine Beach hotel. It is situated virtually on the beach, in an area that is closed to motor traffic. The staff were pleasant and helpful, the room adequate and reasonable value for money, and the breakfast was of a good standard with plenty of western food included. I would recommend this hotel for anyone who wants a reasonably priced quiet break away from the hectic life of most of Hong Kong.
We can heartily recommend the Silvermine Beach Hotel for its old-world charm, the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff and the fabulous location, right on the beach. It is particularly family-friendly, with a relaxed and easy going atmosphere which suits the surroundings perfectly. A special treat was being able to walk straight out of the hotel, along the beach and directly into the hills of Lantau.
Great Hotel, Nice View”
Our stay was excellent, this was on the Island of Lantau. About 30 min by taxi from airport. Located next to the ferry building and the bus station. Very quiet area. Mcdonalds and a super market are 10 min walk. Ferry is only 30 min to Hong Kong Island. Staff is very nice and helpful. Sanua is good as is the gym. The pool was closed but very big. Closed due to winter. Will open on April 01. Will stay here again as I love the location.
Peace and quiet in Hong Kong”
We wanted somewhere quiet to stay for the first night of our trip to Hong Kong and China, this was ideal. We specified a room overlooking the bay and the view was beautiful. The breakfast buffet was included and was good. We ate in the village seafood restaurants by the pier (excellent!)in the evening as the hotel food seemed expensive. The hotel is only connected to the airport by 5 buses a day, the latest morning bus leaves at 8.30am and then there is a big gap to 6pm, so count on a taxi ride. Transport links to the rest of the island and Hong Kong are good and frequent. Go and see the big Budha and get a view of the rest of the island - very green and beautiful. The fishing village was very poor but picturesque.
