Wonderful, clean homestay with lots of charm”

Quiet, relaxing and great location

This homestay is excellent. Don't be put off by so few reviews as it's a relatively new homestay. My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights and it was by far one of the best accomodations we stayed at in all of Kerala (better even than some of the more expensive hotels we booked). Very clean, lovely rooms and a great terrace to enjoy a wonderful breakfast served by Krishna and his family. The only complaint we had was the airport transfer. We were a tad disapointed at the cost of the taxi journey. When we arrived late in the evening the driver (arranged by Silverweed) charged us 1200 ruppees, which is almost double the typical airport taxi fee to Fort Kochi quoted in the current Lonely Planet guide. I'd suggest confirming the cost with Silverweed first before booking. Enjoy!

Wonderful Homestay in Kochi”

The home cooked Indian food is reason enough to stay here

We stayed three nights in their Standard AC Room. The room was very comfortable, came with a mosquito net, wifi, tv and the nicest bathroom we encountered during our stay in India. The hospitality was amazing as were the meals - we still crave the Indian breakfast (included) and the specially arranged Kerala dinner. They only have two rooms for rent at Silverweed which makes the stay very relaxing. We look forward to staying at Silverweed on our next trip to Kochi.

Warm hospitality and Great location ”

1) Quiet and convenient location to visit all the sights in Fort Cochin 2) Good homemade food and optional cooking class 3) Clean room with a spacious balcony

The Silverweed Homestay is located in a nice, quiet residencial neighborhood not far from the main Fort Cochin sights. Our room had everything we needed and a lot of privacy with a spacious balcony filled with lush greenery. We enjoyed great South Indian food for breakfast cooked by our homestay mother and even took a cooking class from her. She is not only a great cook but also teaches cooking classes, and promotes eating healthy food. Our six-night stay was a perfect balance of active sightseeing outside and restful relaxation when we came "home".

Best Place in Cochin”

Great Hospitality

It was so nice staying at Silverweed Homestay. The family go out of their way to ensure a relaxing time. Nothing is too much trouble. The homestay is spotless and cannot be faulted in any way, the breakfast was to die for! Location is great 5 mins from the restaurants in the Fort area and all the tourist attractions. I would have no hesitation staying here again but as they have only 2 rooms maybe it will be difficult to get one.

quite place, excellent food,great hospitably

We spend five days/nights at Silverweed Homestay – a very good choice. A nice and amazingly quite place: almost no noise during the night. Located close to the interesting places of Fort Cochin (10-15 min. walk). Bed and bathroom are clean and with good standard. Marvelous Indian breakfast and (0ptional) dinner! Very warm, friendly and hospitable family. Not a single aspect to criticize.

Highly recommended homestay”

Warm and friendly host, close to interesting points in Fort Cochin, nice and quiet garden.

we enjoyed our short stay in Silverweed Homestay after returning from the Backwaters. This property is hosted by a warm, friendly couple. The garden is well maintained. Room are spacey and clean. The washroom is almost like newly built although the host said it was 2 years old. It shows how much attention they have spent on keeping this property excellent. St. Francis Church, Kerala Kathakali Centre, Chinese Fishing Nets, and many shops and restaurants suggested on Lonely Planet are all within walking distance. We will stay here again.

Spotlessly clean and comfortable

We enjoyed a 2 night stay at Silverweed Homestay. We were thrilled to see how perfectly clean our twin bed room was. Absolutely spotless bedroom (with mosquito net) and en-suite bathroom, hot water and TV! The family which own the 2 room homestay were absolutely charming and provide the traveller with a traditional Indian breakfast as part of your experience. The location was excellent in terms of getting to the main tourist attractions.

location, food

We stayed at Silverweed Homestay for 2 nights in February. The room was spacious, and clean. We didn't even have to turn the AC on, the breeze from open windows was enough. The windows have mosquito nets, and the net over the bed is very comfortable. Breakfasts were included in the price, but if you wish, the host will make a lovely, delicious home-cooked meal for dinner or lunch.

Hospitality at its best”

My wife and I had spent three week on an ayurvedic retreat and wanted a restful place for a week before returning to work. We found it and more. Our host was a wonderful vegetarian cook and cooking teacher producing subtly flavoured meals and showing us all sorts of dishes we could cook once home. Her house is simple and clean and just 15 minutes walk from the shops, beach and cafes of Fort Kochi. The room was large enough with a spacious veranda and had AC and mosquito net.. Our host was a mine of information about the locality and able to book us into events such as Katakali and music performances.

Welcoming & Cozy stay in fort Kochi”

Place is very well located, walking distance to all the touristy places; Room is spacious enough, simple but very clean; Shyama and her husband are wonderful, caring and welcoming hosts.

My daughter Micaela and I had a great stay with Shyama and her husband They are a caring couple and see that one is comfortable. They are also great 'tour' guides, they will set a yuk-tuk up for you, they will get massage appointments for you as well as tickets for the Katakali Traditional Kerala performance. Breakfasts made our tummies and hearts happy, happy! Cheers to them and cheers to you if you decide to visit Fort Kochi!!!

Wonderful place”

Food, hospitality, cleanliness

I can't recommend Silverweed highly enough. From the minute we arrived to a warm welcome, we felt relaxed and so pleased we'd found such a friendly family to stay with for the next 5 nights. The rooms are spotlessly clean and supremely comfortable. The bathroom is huge and has modern funky tiles. There's air con, a fan and WiFi. But best of all is the food: a different tasty breakfast every day, with fresh juice and fruit plus iddli, appam or dosas and curry. Dinner was also different and delicious every night with many dishes plus homemade chutneys and breads. Meals are taken on the terrace which is like a little haven of peace with all the wonderful plants growing there; we spent time reading, resting and relaxing here. The family are so friendly, welcoming and helpful, giving us advice, booking activities and chatting to us about all sorts of things. I can only hope the rest of our accommodation in India comes close to being as good as this; Silverweed certainly sets the bar high!

The owners made us really welcome and the food and bedroom were a delight

We had a fantastic stay at Silverweed, the owners and family all made us feel so welcome, and the mother made some unbelievable food for us to try, so helpful and friendly. The daughter helped us to experience how traditional Sari is worn and allowed my partner to try on her best Sari, such a fun night and one that will remain with us forever. The hotel has a lovely balcony where all the food is served, and the hotel is right n the middle of the fort so within easy access of all the attractions. Perfect spot and perfect hotel, really would recommend without hesitation.

Proximity to major attrction in Fort Cochin adn the cleanliness

krishna and his family are very welcoming without being obtrusive. silverweed is a short auto ride or 10 minute walk from the chinese fishing nets area. as highlighted by my title, i was really impressed with the cleanliness of the property; my room and bathroom were immaculate. krishna really has taken all he learnt from his time in the (wider) hospitality industry and put it to good use in his own property. he also offers great tips on the local area and how best to get to your next destination. i fully recommend a stay at silverweed, which suits the soul as well as the wallet!

Great value for money”

Clean, centrally located and friendly

We really enjoyed our stay at Silverweed. The room was spotless and a decent size with a large bathroom. The rooms also have a cute little balcony that is great to sit out on(beware of the mozzies though!) and it's easy walking distance from the main area of restaurants and shops in Fort Cochin. The Keralan breakfast was plain and simple but nice. The couple were lovely - nothing was too much trouble. And their son Krishna is more than happy to help you out with advice/trips/houseboats. Would definitely recommend this place to others! But one thing that i will say is that,if it is low season and you want to organize a houseboat it really does pay to do it down at the jetty when you get to Alleppey. At least then you are able to shop around, see what you are getting and agree a price.EVERYBODY knows somebody that has a houseboat or can organise one for you but they are never the best deal. You are spoilt for choice once you get there!

Helpfulness of owners, cleanliness of the rooms, large balcony to sit out on

We were warmly welcomed at Silverweed Homestay, which is positioned just off a small side street in the old part of Cochin and at the bottom of a quieter lane which doesn't have vehicular access. The owner was away for the evening but his father made sure we had everything we needed and the room was spotless with a good sized bathroom and comfortable bed. Glad to see a fan above and a mosquito net around the bed as they were everywhere in the vicinity the time we stayed in Cochin. Would recommend this homestay as a real taste of Cochin and good value for money but if you go in the rainy season you may be woken up by the noise of the rain on the smart new tin roof - we were! Lovely family and really nice to be able to sit out on the large shared verandah outside the rooms.

Clean, Comfortable & quiet location

We arrived very early in the morning due to flights delay and the couple were very friendly and accomodating. Made us breakfast and allowed us to have the room. Breakfast was freshly made every day, the room was spacious and clean with a nice varanda. The couple also helped with some tips on fort kochi and travel to allepey. the good thing about this place is that what you see on the pictures is what you get which sometimes doesn't happen in Kerala. definitely recommend it and would go back.
