For People Who Really Want to Get Away”

The location, the friendly staff, and the atmosphere were all just perfect.

The hotel rooms are very basic here, but definitely match the prices offered. What people must understand is that Simukut Hill View is for people who really want to get away from it all. Travelers looking for Thailand-like excitement, night life, lots of other travelers to meet and hang out with, and five-star restaurants need not bother with the village of Mukut. This hotel caters more for people who want to be truly close to nature, who want peace and quiet, and who love hiking (the mountain trail up the Devil's Horns is pretty tough, by the way)and snorkeling and just relaxing on the beach. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating, and our group just had a fabulous time here.

    Beach,Snorkeling,people

I stayed 2 times at this resort. I LOVE this place! Great view from room, beach in front, beautiful beach 5min walk, snorkeling and best staff i've met during my travel. Its a quiet and relaxing place. Uncle Sam cooks fantastic, G does a good job at the bar and tam is the best manager making your stay just perfect. You can also eat outside of the hotel. Don't think to find many restaurants but they have enough to find something nice. Theres a waterfall nearby to visit. Snorkeling equipment is free and you can see many fish and corals. You can arrange daytrips to other places in tioman. Theres also trekking and climbing to do here. Its a basic room but made lovely with the wallcolor and bedsheet. Breakfast was always good specialy the fresh eggs :) i've met so many nice people in mukut and at this resort. I try to come back whenever i can. Thank you Tam, uncle Sam and G!

    Hill with a view”

Rustic, peaceful and just a lovely place

The host Tam was very accomodating. The hotel for the price we paid was ok. The room was for 2 pax only but there was 3 of us yet still he accomodated us free of charge. The food was on big servings and nice (not spicy ). Mukut is a nice quiet village with friendly people and lots of cats and no dogs. You can see the dragons horn so its got very nice views. The beach was ok, clear during high tide but a lot of rocks during low tide. The only cons is the boat ride fare is ridiculously expensive. Otherwise its was a nice short vacation on top of a hill with a view.

    Staying here is paradise ”

Tam (the owner), the view, the food.

When we arrived on Tioman, night was beginning to settle in and what we noticed was that everybody appeared to have speedboats to their next destination. We had not been that organised and had forgotten to contact the hotel. A friendly local used his phone to contact the hotel and in 30 minutes a speedboat arrived as our taxi. It took 30 minutes to get to the hotel and we could not believe our luck- right on our own private beach with an owner that greeted us with the best hospitability. He showed us to our beach cabin and said dinner will be ready in 30 minutes! We had not ordered anything but low and behold when we were settled we received a shout that our dinner was ready (the food was excellent- fresh fish and a chicken dish each evening) for only 11 ringet per person! Uncle Sam did all the cooking so it was a real family run place. What was incredible about pure paradise was not only the breath-taking views but the owner Tam- he made our holiday! This was a cheap hotel but not cheap service, we visited a 5 star hotel a few weeks later and we thought this was miles above it! So well done Tam for making our stay the best ever (WE WILL BE BACK)!

Simukut is ideal for a relaxing getaway”

We loved staying here and visiting the quiet little village of Mukut. Leonard and Ali were great hosts, they made us feel so welcome and we enjoyed their company. Simukut is right by the beach, backed by the amazing Dragon Horns. Such a beautiful location. I'd definitely recommend. Thanks Leonard and Ali!

Amazing retreat in a quiet corner of Tioman”

Located in Mukut Village of Tioman, a quieter and less touristy part of the island, it's quiet and peaceful. There were very few people around and we had the whole place to ourselves, which was surprising considering it's the long weekend but we were not complaining! Location wise, it's less accessible compared to the other villages as the major ferries don't come to this village but you should be able to take a speedboat from other villages to here. There are many things to do around this place. If you get bored of snorkelling, you can also go hiking. The hotel is near to the entrance of the climb up to Dragon's Peak. You can also take a stroll to Asah Waterfall for a cooling dip. Overall, amazing stay in a quiet village with friendly people.

Right on the beach but expensive extras”

Friendly staff, beachfront location, free (even if slow) internet available.

Overall we enjoyed our time at Simukut. The chalets are close to the beach with nice views. The staff was very friendly and the animals and gardens are a nice touch. But there are a number of issues. The ferry from Mersing does not go to Mukut so you must take a water taxi that costs 50 ringgit per person each way. The food available at Simukut tasted fine but was 25 ringgit per person for chicken only dinners (way over local rates). Breakfasts are 10 ringgit per person, beer 8 ringgit. You can go into the village and find food for 5 ringgit or less but as another reviewer noted, most restaurants don't open. The village was a bit of a deserted ghost town when we were there, I don't think they get much tourism anymore since the ferry stopped visiting their part of the island. The rooms themselves could have been cleaner. The toilets leaked onto the floor, and I'm not sure why they don't clean the outsides of the toilets, apparently ever.

    Relaxing place”

    Value, quiet, small

Very relaxing. Mukut the village and surrounds have some great walks, the water falls are beautiful and the climb to the look out are beautiful. The beaches are lovely but not the tranquil blue water and white sand of the sheltered parts of the island and the broken coral beaches are a little hard under foot and also in the sea. Go to Simukut to relax and read and eat, no to get pissed up and layed. We had a lovely time here.

Village style but very relaxing place”

    calm, beautiful area, nice stuff

The hotel is really nice. It`s more like a village,Robinzon style)))No too much conditions, only basics. No hot water,no towels. However bed is big and soft, the houses are right near the sea. It was amazing to breath fresh sea air every day. The hotel area is surrounded by beautiful plants, the feeling like you are in the botanic garden))The hotel owner rear chickens,it`s fun that they are running everywhere, but you have the opportunity to eat organic eggs for a breackfast. Kinda little expansive to order dinners in there,25 rengits, but if order, the hotel stuff do their best to cook good quality food and it`s very delicious. Much cheaper were to go to the nearest village though, there you can eat for 5-10 rengits mostly chicken rice)))Anyway nice atmosphere and this is definetely the best choise for people who are seeking for the place to relax and have a very peaceful and calm rest. Very few people find that place, ecpesially amazing when you two are alone for the whole beach. By the way there were like 5 beaches not far from the hotel.Good place. And among the disadvantages I can also mention that if u want to check out another part of the island, with duty-free shop, snorkling area etc you need to book a boat that is around 100$ per day.....

Great stay, intimacy, but expensive transport”

Location far from the crowd, Intimacy (alone on the beach), Barbecue

Great stay, we expected exactly this kind of confort for the price (simple bungalow with a fan and cold shower). However the transportation is outrageously expensive (50rm per pax Vs 25rm if you know local standards). 2 ways for a couple means 1/3 of the wkend budget (come on guys, you can do better). Beside, the staff is friendly and the BBQ awsome! Only one restaurant option for lunch in the small village of Mukut. Great privacy in the south of Tioman, find your beach and enjoy it for yourself.

    Simple, but wonderful place”

Spent 6 nights with my family in the Beach View Bungalow. No airconditioning, but because the sea is just 10 meters away you don't need one. The sound of the surf can be loud sometimes but still 100x better than a busy street :-) Not many mosquitos during our stay. Very helpful and friendly staff. Don't expect extreme luxury but enjoy the quiet athmosphere and perfect location: corals just in front of your chalet and a jungle track leading up to the iconic rocks starting just behind your chalet.

    good but isolated place”

    location, quietness, wildness

comfortable, bathroom (toilet) to be revised and renewed the problem with Mukut is that you can get there only by boat and so if it's bad weather you'll end up with stomachache and totally wet. but this is how the island is, no complaints. the second problem -depending on the hotel staff- is that they use very small boats to travel, without lights even at night. that's an avoidable risk.

    Remote jungle paradise”

Secluded jungle location. Great beaches. Traditional Malaysian village.

Fantastic. Very remote location but the manager picks up from the ferry. Beaches are beautiful, quiet, water clear and aquamarine. Hotel is metres from the beach and backs onto the jungle with monkeys, giant black squirrels, enormous butterflies and birds. Murat village is nearby and the locals are friendly and welcoming. Accommodation is basic and rustice but adequate. Not a place for partying - its a place to chill out.

Tam the owner is excellent !”

    Tam, food, location

Accommodation is basic, but the location is perfect, he has a kayak that you can use free of charge as well as snorkels, masks, wetsuit boots and a pair of fins. Snorkelling off the beach is superb, head out a bit to the right or left and there are some really amazing coral formations and lots of aquatic life. Tam is a great cook and the evening meals are very tasty. There are some restaurants nearby but they didn't ever seem to be open, maybe they would be in high season.

Nice place for a gateaway trip”

Nice and friendly staff, quite environmet for some city escape trip, enjoyable area

It was a nice trip since I was plan to go some place far from city and enjoy the local village life style. It will be better if the water taxi can be cheaper ( RM50 per person ).Walking will be an enjoyable way to go but if bicycle was beeb provided will be better.Somehow it is a nice and enjoyable place.

    Paradise ”

A lovely place in a local village. Leonard and his team are so friendly and kind. Completely away from the usual tourist areas. The beach is quite rocky and the sea is choppy. Lovely coral all along the beach. I would definitely recommend this if you want tranquility and an authentic Malaysian experience
