Great Staff, Good Breakfast, Nice Rooms”

Staff, Breakfast, Location

The Staff at Sin Yaw Guest House were very helpful, friendly and sweet. The breakfast was tasty and filling (with wholewheat bread rather than the gross sweet white bread every other GH in Myanmar serves!) with toast, eggs, coffee/tea, fruit. The location was on a quiet street in the southwest of Nyaung Shwe, but still very close to walk to lots of restaurants and everything. The area where boats leave for Inle Lake is incredibly close. The beds in our room were comfy and clean, bathroom clean, and there was some pretty carved bird tiles on the ceiling! Overall, pretty good value in Nyaung Shwe and very well run by super nice staff! We also rented good quality bicycles for 1500 MMK and bought overnight bus tickets to Mandalay (which, by the way, only takes 7 hours and so arrives at 2am).

Clean Room, Good Breakfast and Helpful Staff

I stayed for 4 nights in Sin Yaw Guesthouse. During my stay, I went to Taunggyi for the Hot Balloon Festival. one of the sisters help us (a group of solo travellers) to get a shared taxi. The price that we payed was cheaper than elsewhere. I also was able to buy my ticket to Bagan with them. So, they are very helpful to find tickets/taxi or anything that you may need. The room was clean and the breakfast delicious. The Internet comes and goes like in the whole Myanmar, not their fault. However, it was way more consistent than in Bagan.

Enjoyable stay. ”

Friendly staff, central location, affiliated restaurants

We enjoyed our stay at Sin Yaw. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. The hotel itself is well situated in a central but quiet part of Nuang Shwe. The breakfast was tasty with coffee made from real beans (not instant!). We stayed in two rooms during our time. Our first night was in a double room with ensuite. The room was ok but bathroom could have done with a thorough clean. We were in a double room in a bamboo hut on the second night without an ensuite. The room was fine but the (outside) shared bathroom wasn't very clean and only a cold shower was provided. The stay was however positive overall and I would recommend it for a stay in Inle Lake. As an aside, we would highly recommend the two restaurants owned by the family (Sin Yaw Restaurant and Sin Yaw B Restaurant). We loved it so much that we had three meals there! Try the amazing steamed / grilled fish dishes!!!

They also have a good resto by the market place”

Very good resto in town, good breakfast etc

The hotel is a bit far from main part of town but you can walk there in 15-20 minutes or less to eat at their resto by the market place which is run by the owner's son (he speaks decent English). I ate lunch & dinner there every night - very good fish & other local dishes for 3.5k + 500 Kyats for rice. There's also places to each much closer as well while the place to get boats to Inle Lake is a short walk away. I was surprised that the place is not that old though as the rooms etc already seemed rather rundown (Poor construction?). However, the rooms are clean and there's mosquito netting over the bed. Breakfast is on the roof with a couple of egg options, toast, fruit, tea or coffee. Note that you can book an Inle Lake boat trip with them for either $18 or $22 or 18k or 22k Kyats. However, the boat man told me he's only getting a fraction of that and its better to negotiate directly with them rather than have your hotel do it as you can get a much better deal. I ended up going with two other people so we only paid $6 or 6k Kyats each for a half day trip from sunrise until after lunch (skipping lunch on the lake) - so I am not complaining. Half a day is enough as it gets hot & you will get sun burnt. They also booked my bus or rather van ticket to Mandalay - I may not have gone the best deal there either but it didn't matter as I needed to get there & a travel agent would also be taking a commission as well (Note: The bus station is in the junction several kms away - they pick you up in a truck). For a couple dollars, you can rent their bikes for the day - I took one to go to Shwe Yan Pyay Monastery & the Red Mountain Estate winery as both are too far to walk to. Otherwise, the Wifi could be intermittent at times - typical for Myanmar.

Sin Yaw Guest House is OK”

Owner was friendly and approachable; The restaurant had a nice view; The staff was helpful

Sin Yaw Guest Hous is a study in oppositions. On the one hand, it stands as a good example of a decent mid-range hotel that met higher standards during tougher times in Myanmar. But, Myanmar is changing and so are the demands on the tourist industry. So, there were moments where I felt that Sin Yaw's owners and staff were in danger of falling behind more dynamic hotels popping up. Service ws reliable but then ocassionally missed the mark, like the one day that I was left without soap and shampoo in my shower area as well as refreshed water bottles. I don't mind reusing towels, but by the third day a thoughtful staff member may have noticed that my towels weren't drying by being hung in the room alone. The location is nice if you like being away from the louder central area of town. But, you also leave yourself having to run the gauntlet of dogs if you return by foot after dark (timid by day, the dogs tend to pack at night and grow a bit more aggressive). On the whole, these are mild discomforts compared to the kindness of the genuine owners. I hope they continue to thrive in the changing economy and encourage them to review some of their staff policies.

Decent, comfortable place”

Quiet, friendly staff, comfortable bed

The hotel is a ways out from the main center of town, but Nyaung Shwe is so tiny, you can walk all the way across town in 20 minutes. I preferred the quiet, compared to the traffic in town. The rooms are older, but comfortable. Bedsheets were stained on one bed, bathroom was fine/clean. The lake tour they arranged for me was expensive and not worth the money--just me and a non-english-speaking boat driver about 16 years old. We went to a half dozen places starting at the frozen hour of 8am, and were done by 12:30pm. Could have easily started later when the temperatures were more bearable, and some conversation wouldn't have hurt. Arrange your tours somewhere in town.

Great stay”

staff

Room equipped with basic facilities but was totally worth the money we had paid for. The location was nothing to complain. A peaceful and quite place! Also, everything was in a walking-distance, 5 minutes to the jetty and 10 or 15 minutes to any restaurant in town. But what had made my stay really really enjoyable was the friendliness and hospitality of the staff and the owner. Super helpful staff they had so you wouldn't even need to go asking for anything elsewhere. 5 stars for the service! Absolutely recommended for a perfect stay in Inle !!!

This place was the cheapest on Agoda in Inle when I booked, but it was still pretty nice. I got lucky and was bumped to a 3-bed room with private bath because the dormitory was over booked so maybe I would feel differently if I had stayed in the dorm. It was conveniently located next to a small night market. Complimentary bottled water was nice and there's a tank at reception you can use to refill your personal bottles.

Sin Yaw Review”

Good breakfast ; Courteous staff. Hot showers

Reasonably priced hotel/ guest house. Location was a bit away from everything. Road in front of guest house was dirt and gravel. Muddy at times. Guest house could arrange anything for you but their prices were always higher than anywhere else. They did do all my laundry for 1500 kyat!! They did a special breakfast for me my last day as the bus was very early. But poor wifi! Had to go to Internet cafe to book everything. Overall cheap accommodation

Awesome staff, good location, but poor cleaning ”

The staff, the location and roof top view

Sin Yaw has some awesome staff. They are so friendly and helpful. They will probably go the extra mile to help you! We arrived early in the morning (5.30 am) and was able to check in right away, which was nice! However the room wasn't clean. It had mold all over the bathroom, the carpets were stained and full of dust and dirt. The room inclouded breakfast, which was fine (eggs, toast, fruit and tea/coffee). It was served with a breathtaking view from the roof top. The staff arranged a tour to inle cheaper than those in town (they cost from 18,000 kyat at the hotel and about 30-35,000 in town). There are a big court area near the reception where you will be able to hang out and meet other travellers. Overall we had a great stayear despite of the cleanness level, but it was a bit overpriced...

Nice Guest House / Disappointing Trip”

Value / Location / Staff

"The Good" Value. Large, quiet, comfortable, clean room w/private bathroom at a bargain price. Location - Not on the main strip but a short walk from the river and town center. Staff - Cheerful. "The Not So Good" Boat Trip. Staff arranged the standard boat trip on Inle Lake with a guide who spoke very good English. As it turns out, however, the guide spoke no English and it was a guessing game the rest of the day trying to figure out the itinerary. Breakfast not for vegetarians, so I had to grab something to eat in town every morning. Communication with front desk could be challenging if you stray off the "template" topics: trips, taxi, etc.

Excellent value for money & great staff !”

Staff / cleanliness / price

I can't say enough about the owner and staff, what super human beings. I hurt my leg on a bike, they took me to a doctors clinic nearby, helped me shop for medicines and some dry foods for while bedridden, asked me if I needed any food making - they were amazing etc so genuine and warm. They also hooked me up with other guests so we could share the cost of boat hire. They have bikes you can hire on site and are so helpful about anything you ask. The rooms are comfy and clean and the breakfast sufficient if a little predictable everyday - toast jam tea coffee and eggs any way you want. Its great value for what you get and can't recommend it enough, felt like you got a personal service with no thoughts of being taken advantage of. Great eateries roun the corner too like Red Star Cafe. Stay here, it's the best.
