Fantastic stay, could use minor staff improvements”

We decided to splurge and stay here while doing the loop. Liked it so much that we stayed for a 2nd night (see 2nd review). The grounds are amongst the most beautiful we have stayed at in 9 months of travel. Absolutely gorgeous gardens, plantations and chalets. We requested to eat at the balcony overlooking the Red Creek and it wasn't a problem. Our room was very cool, the walls decorated with cross-hatched rattan and fully-furnished; the balcony with garden view was our favourite part. The food & beverages, though pricey as expected, was always delicious, especially the hot chocolate. They have a puppy, two dogs and a cat, all of which are incredibly friendly and a pleasure to play with. The only thing that did throw us off were some issues with the staff. The owner, Phillipe, is a highly educated and multilingual gentleman. He can be friendly, but at times was a bit disconnected from his customers. Upon check-in, he asked us where we're from, and when my Chinese-American girlfriend said America, he followed up by pulling his eyes at the corners to make them slanted (like Asian eyes) and asked where she was originally from. I was pretty appalled by this action since it's discriminatory behaviour that only very young children do to taunt their Asian counterparts, so I hope he never repeats it with any East Asians he meets in the future. As for the Lao staff, they were always courteous, however, they brought us a different breakfast than what we ordered and also forgot to serve us the fruit that was supposed to be included with it. We loved our stay at Sinouk and hope to return one day!

Beautiful, but overpriced”

Relaxing, Coffee

sinouk's resort is somewhat of a fata morgana in the dusty no man's land of the bolaven coffee plantations. on his own coffee plantation grounds, sinouk has created a romantic settlement with lush gardens and colonial style buildings. everything is top-notch at first sight, but so is the price. in fact, it is very overpriced, as rooms offer little more space than your average guesthouse in champassak - and the bathroom is not much better either. there's no a/c, but thanks to the cool bolaven nights this is no miss. food on the other hand is truly marvelous (but again: relatively expensive) and the coffee very delicate - but what would you expect. all-in-all a relaxing stay for a night (not more, as there is ab-so-lute-ly no-thing to do here but stroll through the gardens), but skip this if you're on a budget. getting there and away is also somewhat challenging, as hardly any bus seems to pass along. in the end, we arranged an expensive private car in pakxong...

Stayed again for another fantastic day, more staff issues”

As per our last review, Sinouk is pretty wonderful with just some minor downfalls. Grounds: Amazing. We loved the view next to the balcony with the mini-waterfall they have built up, some epic sunset views there. Food & drinks: Delicious Room: On point, loved the garden view balcony. Wifi: Not in all rooms, accessible by pocket/portable Wifi on request and inconsistent service Staff: Overall good but needs improvement. Our 2nd morning, they again were serving us the wrong breakfast but luckily the owner was there to help us correct the mistake. The staff have some small children, so occasionally you may hear some crying, but for the most part it wasn't an issue. The owner offered to give us a tour of the grounds, and when we took him up on his offer when we checked out, he moved very quickly, offered very minimal explanations, and even stopped dead in his tracks a few times because he was on his phone. As a tour guide myself, I can tell you it didn't seem like he was really into it. We do really hope to stay again one day!

remote coffee plantation paradise”

Gardens, ambiance and food

This is a small boutique type hotel/resort. It is in a remote area several kilometers from the nearest town. Upon arriving we were ushered into the two rooms of our cottage. (Our adult daughter had one room.) It is Lao style with wonderful baskets, woven flooring and Lao linens. We looked around the cottage and noted its superb location right on a babbling creek with butterflies floating by. An attendant then brought menus and asked if we wanted to eat on the deck which we did. We saw no other tourists for the first few hours and felt like we had gone to paradise. You can eat anywhere in your cottage, at the restaurant or stream side in various locations. The food was good and moderately priced making this a great place to relax and get away from it all. Our rooms did not have air conditioning but sleeping under the mosquito netting was cozy and comfortable since the nights are cool on the plateau. There is AC in other buildings. There is not much to do except walk around the gardens and coffee plantation area and view the ponds and stream. If you are looking for a relaxing get away spot from the city hustle and bustle, this is it!

A true resort”

Garden and atmosphere

Parking in a muddy round-about resulting in mud on shoes and luggage on arrival. The first room was not clean and apparently not used for quite some time; the very nice staff immediately changed the room for us. Setting is absolutely fantastic and a place where one could spend a week with a suitcase of books - if the food would be edible. You're "forced" to eat in the resort; the next village "Thataeng" is six kms towards Sekong. We were mobile but Thataeng goes to bed at 18h30 or so. Food contained lots of MSG (to which I react allergic). The pricing is in no relation to the mediocre quality of the food - a cup of coffee at the roastery at USD 2/cup is not a problem if it would have been good. The grinding disk of the machine need sharpening or replacement; the coffee was undrinkably bitter - a big disappointment as the coffee (which I use in my home in Thailand) is of extremely good quality. Get the kitchen in order and a proper resort manager looking after the operation and the place will do just fine!

Into gardens and water features? ”

What can I say but, well worth the drive. There has been a lot of thought gone into designing the waterways here. The rooms were small but clean, the bathroom / shower typically Laotian. The food excellent and well priced. Staff as usual were awesome & the pure cleanliness and layout of the gardens was a rare treat, very difficult to find such a pristine spot. Would definitely recommend and intend on staying again.

Cascade, river and coffee plantation”

The gardens, the river, the breakfast

80 km from Pakse, difficult to get there by public transport, so you must consider 120 USD more at least in your budget to go and come back with a taxi. Gardens are lovely and bungalows nice although not top luxury. Staff are friendly but you better speak a little of Lao or Thai ortherwise communication is difficult. Surroundings nice but not much to do. Good for one night, hotel hasn't develop much activities that would retain clients. No wifi at all (maybe because we went in low season). TV on thai channel in the restaurant. Mostly for staff. All in all nice surrounding, romantic and nice sound of the river. But for one night only. Has more potential!

Once Paradise door is open you view Sinouk C. R..!”

Amazing set up in the wilds! plus carefull staff that let's you feel as if you are a prince.

With the exception of hot water (The season was very cold for once) all other bliss amenities of a remote place led us to believe we won our place in paradise. Few bikes and a open air safari old long wheel base willis 4X4 to visit plantations around would give a final touch. If you rent a little motorbike: Never drive after dark.. the road is then "wild" and almost nobody around.
