Sipadan Mangrove Resort NOT at Semporna ”
Me and my friend recently travelled to Tawau. Both of us searched for hotels at Semporna and this resort option came out. The address also mention it at Semporna. However, we only got to know that the resort is located 2 hours from Semporna. The two hours is doesn’t matter but the entire road is extremely bumpy. Advisable to drive with four wheel drive. The ideal use of this resort is for relaxation. The resort is surrounded by coconut plantations, Mangrove Trees, rivers and other flora. The resort is very close to airport and 40 minutes to Tawau Town. The resort fully made out of wood. Their rooms are huge and spacious. Whoever staying here, can get packages from the resort itself which range from RM200 onwards for the beautiful islands like Kapalai, Mabul and others. They also have packages like Kayaking and River Cruise to see the fireflies and crocodiles. Buying packages from them will be convenient even though a bit expensive. The resort has a spa too. The foods are delicious. The resort staffs are so helpful and friendly. Overall, we had best experience. It’s a perfect place for relaxation.
pro & con, beautiful mangroves resort with uncountable mosquitoes ”
main road to the resort about 20km+, 30-40% jungle rugged road. Best to book hotel transport for in and out. room are spacious, terrible mosquitoes in the room at night, better get well prepare for that. saw wild crocodile far at the mangroves from restaurant, group of monkeys around 4pm+, have to well keep your belonging... beautiful butterflies, squirrels, etc... all meals included with drinks, not bad but personally think too many seasoning... too salty staff are nice and helpful. maxis and digi no service at all and their wifi are down, not contactable nor connectable
The most amazing time!”
We stayed for two nights, the fire fly tour was lovely and we also did the snorkelling trip and saw lots of turtles! The staff were very accommodating and saw to every need. Room was clean, beds comfortable and it was very spacious. Location is good If you want a quiet stay, very peaceful and scenic. It would be nice to have a bit more variety on the set food menu but there was lots of food and the staff tried I accommodate as much as possible.
Too far from the main road and civilization. ”
The 20Km + road leading to the property is horrendous with many many seriously big muddy potholes , ones needs a 4WD to travel on this road . It would be totally impossible to travel on this road if it rains as the potholes will be filled with water making it impossible to know how deep they are .
Excellent staffs and location; this place puts the guest in tranquility”
The food served is generous and delicious. But they forgot to serve our welcome drinks! Room was spacious and nice. The night activities (sunset rivercruise/firefly) can be improved. We were told we will visit fish farm during the rivercruise, however the boat only took us to see the sunset. For fireflies watching, it took us approximately only 20 minutes in boat. I understand it was fullmoon time, but it feels like paying RM50 per person was not worth it. The internet needs to be improved (though the lack of internet connection may be a good thing). Staffs were great especially from the reservation department, Mr.Azree. He accomodated my request very well. Apart of that, restaurant staffs really concerned about my 5 years old son well-being since he was ill and coughing all the time during dinner. I also requested iced milo for him in every meals, and chicken fritters since my son was a very picky eater. The staffs never dissapointed me with these requests.
This is a tough one to review.”
Definitely not what we expected even after reading tons of reviews. It has good bones, but feels unfinished. I understand that it is east side of Borneo and not westernized, but they could do much better. So much potential, staff is so nice and friendly, so few reasonable places to stay around the area, but even so they have lost most of their western clientele and I am not surprised. The managment needs to step up.
Not what we expected”
The location is isolated which we did not realize when we made the booking. You have no choice but to take all your meals at their dining room and the quality of the food was poor. The road into the resort, not their fault, but very poor nd took almost an hour from the main road with cars just missing each other as they veer across the center of the road in search for a place in the road that is not rutted.
Peaceful mangrove retreat”
Very tranquil. Off by itself in the middle of a mangrove sanctuary, this resort is a good hopping off point for island visits, as there is nothing at all around the resort itself except mangroves and palm plamtations.
Very peaceful place to stay for a rest”
Staff here are very friendly and very helpful. Foods are ok and almost different dishes everyday. My friend was sick the first day here because of food in another hotel.Staff help to make porridge for us, so sweet. The diving instructors here are also very nice. I went diving for the first time. And my instructor is very cool, skillful and considerate. I think he is the best. I love him, hahah
Incredible slice of paradise ”
Had an amazing time here, particularly because of all the staff. Everyone was very friendly and did everything they could to make the trip the best it could be . Hidden away in the mangroves, this resort is an amazing place to explore Borneo and the islands nearby. Incredible diving and snorkelling, we saw turtles, dolphins, seahorses, and many more fantastic marine life. The food here is delicious, organic and fresh. Would recommend this place to anyone thinking of exploring Borneo!
We spent three nights here and it was totally AWESOME!!! Best experience ever. The environment here is nice and comfortable, the view is good and the staff are kind and helpful. Everything and everyone here make us feel at home and feel at ease. I almost cry when I leave the resort😭
We we were the only guests in a resort that could accommodate 100 - a bit creepy at first (was like being in a horror movie with staff lurking around every corner). In the end everyone was really friendly and took us on a great day fishing and another snorkeling and diving. Chef cooked the fish we caught and we fed monkeys by hand. Good fun in the end
quiet, nice surroundings”
Surrounded by mangrove trees, the resort is frequented by long-tailed monkeys, which are not aggressive if you keep certain distance. Staff are friendly. Food is so-so, compared to what you can get at Semporna. Wi-fi and mobile signal need to be improved. Certain charges could be more reasonable. For example, round-trip to Semporna costs you RM 150 while airport pickup is only RM 25, although it only takes twice as much time to get to Semporna.
Rooms a bit far away from the receptions ! ”
The restaurant in chrage his name Robinoto is very friendly and takecare with us ! The diving team Men and Kim during the diving and snorkeling activity ensure our safety first. I would like recommend when you doing this activity asked them to guide yOu
Excellent spot to stay after dive trip on Mabul!”
The staff here is wonderful. We were a group of 3 that stayed here after a dive trip to Mabul. We couldn't fly back right away and chose this place to relax after our dive trip. The scenery was a great change of pace from Mabul and Semporna. The mangroves surrounding the property are beautiful. The resort has lots of activities during downtime as well- we did a sunset boat cruise and a day trip island hopping and snorkeling to Tun Sakaran Marine Park, Bod Gaya, and Sibuan. All the trips were so much fun! The staff was also really helpful and took care of one of us when they caught a virus and were sick. They definitely went above and beyond. Highly recommended!
Nice resort with great staffs!”
From arranging for airport pick up until drop off at Tawau airport, everything went as planned. We stayed in mangroves chalet type room. The room was massive for couple as they have one queen bed, one single bed and one extra mattress. They even have a separate room for closet complete with iron and ironing board. The toilet not great but was adequate and spacious. The package that we took includes 3 times meals per day. Breakfast was simple and very minimal but lunch and dinner was great (they can think of new menu as it was the same everyday but the meals was delicious). The resort provides packages for snorkeling, diving and other activities like fishing, hiking etc. We took the snorkeling package (cost us MYR200 per person) which they brought us to 3 different locations for snorkeling - mabul, kapalai and one more which i cant remember but not sipadan. Took around 45 min boat ride from the resort to the islands. The package also include tour in mabul village where we get to explore the local village. One thing that we appreciate the most during our stay in the resort was the resort's staff. All of them were friendly, attentive and efficient. We really appreciate their excellent services and felt really welcomed. The resort still undergoing upgrades works but the main area has been completed. Overall do not hesitate to stay in this resort if you would like to opt for not staying in the island resort. Highly recommend!
Most Relaxing Vacation”
Our recent 5 night stay at the Sipadan Mangrove Resort was wonderful and relaxing! We were picked up at the Tawau Airport and drove about 45 minutes to the resort. They are expanding and repairing some of the roads, so it was a little slow and bumpy at times. The resort is a magical hideaway surrounded by oil plantations, fish farms and mangroves and is on the Kalumpang River. We had a large, air conditioned cabin with a king size bed, cathedral ceiling, sitting area, desk, small refrigerator and floor to ceiling windows with sliding doors out to a deck. There was also a separate changing room/closet and plenty of storage. Mei and Azree made all our reservations for activities, took care of all our requests and made us feel right at home. They were so wonderful, and all the people who work there treated us like family! All of your meals are included, so you don't have to think about where to go. Fishing, diving, snorkeling and the river cruise leave right from the resort boat dock, and the prices are very reasonable. The boats are clean, comfortable and well run. Aziz was our boat captain. He's like the fish whisperer! If We didn't catch any fish within ten minutes, we moved to another spot. We had so much fun, we booked a second trip! The resort chef cooked the fresh fish we caught for lunch and dinner combined with fresh vegetables and rice, and all our meals began with a different freshly made cup of soup. He is outstanding at cooking fish, and all the meals were delicious with very generous portions! At night, we would relax by the bar where there is a large, flat screen TV. Every morning and around dinner time the long-tailed Macaques would come out to greet us hoping for food. We got some great photos! We also did a three-tank dive at Mabul and Kapalai. The dive master was patient and wonderful. The resort fixed a yummy lunch for us to eat on the boat before our third dive. It was a great day! My husband also enjoyed a couple of relaxing massages. I can honest
unless you are just transiting as divers. Definitely not value for money. Nothing much to see or do here except monkeys scattering about the resort. Meals are just very plain and basic, nothing to write home about.
Pleasant stay amongst the Mangroves”
Went snorkeling for two days, the cost of a snorkeling trip at the dive shops is about ~250 MYR per person per day and that includes your lunch and gear. The snorkeling was really quite amazing, and the snorkeling guides are really great. James in particular was very helpful. Dive shop is well equipped. There's a night time cruise to see fireflies/crocodiles and watch the stars that's really great. One big thing to be prepared for: the dive shop is cash only, and there are no ATMs on or near the property. I ended up exchanging foreign currency at a ~9% premium, so bring cash with you. The property is rather remote from any of the cities/towns in the area, about a 30-40 minute drive if you want to get to civilization. There are monkeys on the property outside of your rooms during the day time. The meals are served buffet style - there were enough options/variety and the cooking was good. The fish was especially nice.
It was a good place to stay. Prefer this rather than Semporna because quite place.
