Pros: minutes away from lakefront, 7-11 and Familymart, 2 bicycle rentals. Breakfast on rooftop with partial view of lake. We were in a quad room (just 1 night), which was quiet in spite of being only on the 3rd floor and in central Ita Thao. Beds were comfortable, bathroom a generous size. Aircon and hot water working well. Cons: limited places to hang bath towels, breakfast spread adequate though slightly limited. Room cleanliness wasn’t top-notch (cobwebs under bed). One bath towel had a black spot which didn’t come off with rubbing/hand-washing. Switches for room lights/tv were on a fancy touch-pad beside the bed, but only in mandarin so good luck to guests who don’t read mandarin.

Modern, Boutique Hotel in A Great Location”
i highly recommend skylight b&b if you are visiting sun moon lake. the b&b is located in the heart of tiny ita thao - just a very short walk from the pier and about a 15 minute walk to the gondola ride. the b&b was built very recently and was outfitted in a very sleek, upscale style. the beds are huge, the blankets soft and comfy, and there are more automated lighting options than you can imagine. our "two queen beds" room on the 6th floor also had an enormous slate bathtub (more like a small spa pool) with a view over the lake - the kids loved that. the fact that this is a small hotel means that the big tour groups do not stay here - a big plus if you are at sun moon lake on a busy weekend and want some peace and quiet. the breakfasts are excellent - you can ask for western style (eggs, bacon, toast) or chinese style (rice soup with lots of extras). both types come with fruit, oj and coffee/tea. breakfast is served in the airy, petite 8th floor dining room with a great view of the lake. it's like eating perched high up in a bird's nest. only one minor negative - the hotel is not right on the lake, so the views from your room may be obstructed, especially on the lower floors. if you want to see the lake right from your room, you'll need to be on the 6th floor. but you can always go up to the adorable dining room with a book and just soak up the lake if you want. great place to stay.

Excellent B&B”
Skylight B&B one of the best hotels/B&Bs we've had in all our travels. Skylight is new & it is comparable to hotel standards in terms of the spacious & modern rooms, which comes with big bathtub, rainfall showers & thick sheets. We stayed 3 nights on level 6, which comes with stunning views of the mountain & the lake, in this serene & beautiful little town of Itashao. The owners of the B&B make small talk with us everyday & give us tips & recommendations on our itinerary. You can get cheaper tickets (as compared to retail prices) for the boat, cable car & Formosa Aboriginal park from the Skylight owners. Breakfast sets (either Western or Chinese) which are cooked by the owners themselves are very tasty. All in all, we had really good time at Skylight & Sun Moon Lake! :)

booked skylight b&b for 17th november and once we reached there me and my partner totally regret, not because the hotel is not good but we regreted because we should have book it a day more! the hotel is beautiful although it only have a total of no more then 20 room if i'm not wrong, but the room itself is superb! we mention to requested for the highest floor, 7th, the 8th and 9th is dinning area. 10 reason why you must book this hotel when you go sun moon lake 1) clean and modern room 2) room is equiped with high end technology (curtain tv light etc is all remote control by a touch screen device) 3) view is superb with mountain and lake view 4) staff is friendly they treat you like friends 5) their bathtub is not those tube like bathtub, it more like those spa company kind 6) come with rain shower overhead 7) whole room is almost transparent (more for couple) + point for intimacy 8) breakfast area is beautiful with outdoor area and the food is really good, try their western style, it good and their red tea is nice! 9) their free food and drink is of better quality (wan wan biscult and ovaltine packet) 10) come with safe to safe keep your passport and valuable if you dont feel like bringing it with you

Great place to visit Sun Moon Lake”
Skylight B&B is located right along a street that is open for tourists. With a Museum nearby, and a short 200m walk to the Ithao Visitor Centre, this hotel provides easy access to the numerous boat rides throughout the lake. Along the same street, one can find easy access to the famous Taiwan street food, plus also, for those concerned about getting other choices, there are two 24 hour convenience stores, a Family Mart and a 7-11 along the same street. Further up, about 400m away, a Starbucks too. This hotel serves only breakfast, with a choice of Chinese Breakfast, or Western Breakfast. The dining room is located on the 8th floor, with a great morning view of the lake. A short distance away, about 700m, is a trail to the cable car access to the Aboriginal centre. You can buy the tickets for the cable car ride at the hotel, and its adviseable you do. The cable car operates on a first come first serve basis and you should get to the cable car startion before it opens at 10am to get a queue number to get onto the ride. Rooms are clean (we go the family room on the 3rd floor with two double beds) and rooms are clean and also includes a in-room safe. The street is quiet after 9pm. Easy access to other parts of the lake via the ferry terminal located about 200 meters away. Service is friendly. Hotel have their own parking area, though its at another location about 400m away. This area though is not the main tourist spot but one can take the ferry to Shueli from the terminal at the Ithao visitor centre. Great place to stay, room was non-smoking.

Nice B&B, very helpful staff”
My wife and I stayed here on 11/13/2014. I suppose because the place was not full, we were given a free upgrade to a room on the 7th floor. The room has great views of the lake and the bathroom is quite modern and nice. The breakfast was also good! During the following day, we rented two bikes to ride along the lake bike path. As was common practice in Taiwan, the bike rental company asked for my California driver license when we checked out the bikes. When we returned the bikes, I forgot to get my driver license back because we had to rush to catch the next boat. I discovered that I lost my driver license at the bike place two days later when we were at Kentington Park. I then called Skylight B&B and talked to Ms Hsu (not sure if the name is correct!) and asked her to track down my driver license (I did not know the contact info. Of the bike place). She then contacted the bike place right away and kept me informed of the progress via text messages. Two days later, the bike company owner mailed me my driver license. I was quite impressed by the professionalism and friendliness of the Skylight B&B staff and will definitely stay here when I have a chance to visit Sun Moon Lake in the future!

Excelletn B&B and great service”
the location s very near to the lake, about 2 minutes walk. there are a lot of stalls selling taiwanese snacks outside the hotel. the room that we stayed in looked new and clean. nicely decorated with huge tv, comfortable bed and glass windows overlooking the lake. bathroom was excellent, there was options to have the normal shower or rain shower, or dip in the jacuzzi. we were given a selection of breakfast, chinese or western, both are equally tasty, atmosphere at the restaurant was relaxing, we could see the lake clearly. overall, we were impressed with skylight b&b, we would love to stay there again if we visit sun moon lake : )

budget B&B with Hotel standard rooms/bath”
Very happy to have stayed at the Skylight B&B. We stayed in the family room on the 6th floor with a massive and very modern and clean bathroom. You could relax in the enormous, sunken bathtub and watch TV from there through a window into the bedroom with 2 big, comfy beds (about 180cm wide each, but felt shorter than standard...?). You could close a blind in front of the window though if you wanted more privacy though. OUr children loved it though! The room was also very clean and we liked it very much. The only thing that was a bit weird is that you only have a bit of a view from the bathroom as there is a roof in front of the bedroom's window with some big water tanks and solars right on eye level. So, no view there BUT the room is very light though. Due to the way the house is located right between 2 other houses I assume that on any floor beneath the 6th you would not even have daylight/windows. There are more rooms on 7th floor though and they should have a great view I guess. From the breakfast room on the top floor (8th) you do have a very nice view though and the breakfast itself was a very nice surprise (scrambled eggs and bacon with veggies and hashbrowns, as well as toast with jam and a fruit platter)! You could choose between Chinese and Western (don't know what the Chinese one would have been like). The host working at check-in as well as in the breakfast room, was very approachable, friendly and her English was good enough to communicate. Overall we thought that this quite small B&B was of so much higher standard than i.e. the 4-star hotel in Taipei we had stayed in the previous nights. If you are looking for budget accommodation in a tiny village away from the very touristy areas at Sun Moon Lake, go for this one!! We can highly recommend to rent some bikes at "Giant" in the "Delight Mall" (just google it) which is car ride away and do a tour around the lake (or at least as far as you can go) - BEAUTIFUL!!!

Great location and room”
It leaves a memorable experience even though we only stayed for 1 night. It is located in the less busy harbor of Sun Moon Lake which is the best choice we made. There is good amount of street food and shopping in that area. Most importantly the Skylight B&B provides a room well above my expectation. I find that the bath is even more comfortable then most of the paid hot spring we can find in the area.

We stayed here 1 night on 28 Dec. My mom and I really loved this B&B!! Throughout our Taiwan trip with staying in 4 different hotels, my mom confirmed that Skylight B&B is the best one. The room is new, spacious and nicely furnished. The big bed is super comfy. Bathroom is big with bathtub provided. We really felt like staying in 4-star hotel!! The location is also good as well. Just a short walk from Ita Thao pier. It is located in the shopping street with many souvenirs and food shops. The most important thing, Jessica is super duper nice. She has such a good service mind. She is always willing to give us information both before and during our stay. The breakfast on the 8th floor is also very nice. Highly recommend this B&B for everyone who is looking to stay in Ita Thao pier!! Tip: Fu Yuan restaurant is very recommended. It is famous restaurant in Ita Thao pier. We also had chance to have lunch there. It truly met our expectation. The foods are delicious and cheap.

Modern, clean and homely”
Skylight B&B is a very comfortable and clean small hotel with very modern fittings. There is a remote control for the lights, radio and TV and a relaxing sunken bath with stone tiles. Toiletries, a kettle with tea and coffee, indoor slippers and mineral water are provided. There is supposed to be wifi in the room but I could only access it close to the door and not other parts of the room. The staff are very friendly and make the stay a homely experience. There is a choice of Chinese and Western breakfast. I opted for the Western breakfast which had a good variety, including eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, mushrooms, toast, fruit and orange juice. The hotel is easily accessible about two minutes' walk from the Ita Thao pier, but this was inconvenient for me as I had to take the ferry back to the Shuishe pier (where the bus station is) to catch a morning bus back to Taichung. If you have time to spare, this is fine and the Ita Thao area is probably a little quieter and less touristy than the Shuishe area. There are lots of food options near the hotel for meals, such as small restaurants, eateries and food and fruit stalls. All in all, the hotel was very good value for the price and worth staying in if you are looking to stay in the Ita Thao area.

best b&b we have ever seen, cosy and nice”
we are the first time to taiwan sun moon lake. we are so lucky to have picked up this cosy, modern design and new b &b . this small hotel has its own special design. the room we stayed in is marvelous with its design and comfortable facilities . we enjoyed the large tub with "waterfall" fauce to fill it. never seen this before and we reallyed enjoy our shower. the hotel is close to pier and cable car location. very convenient. the breakfast is great ! the owner, is very dedicated to his job. we wish he' ll have a good business. our son and his family will go to sun moon lake in the coming october and will stay in this hotel.

Great Place, Nice View, Friendly Owners”
In terms of location, Skylight B&B is located in the town of Ita Shao. Wouldn't matter if you're travelling by car but coaches mainly stops at Shuishe which is on the opposite banks. I have to travel by cab to this town. Since it is away from Shuishe, it tends to have less of the hustle/bustle and at night the place tends to quiet down which is fine with me. It is however near to the cable car station that brings you tot the Farmosa Aboriginal Village Park. A short walk along a lakeside broadwalk brings you there and there were scenic sakaru blooms along the way. It is also right smack at the food street. There are plenty of street food so don't worry about getting hungry but bear in mind they closed early - this is not a night market. The only let down is there's a construction going on just next door and my room view is blocked by it. But I'm all forgiving with the breakfast. I had both western and congee on 2 mornings and boy was it fantastic. You still get a great and partial view of the lake on the 8th floor - the dining area. The owners (husband and wife) are very friendly and I can see either of them manning the recep on different days. They actually stay there, I think.

My friend and I were very satisfied with our stay at Skylight B&B. The B&B is located within walking distance to the ferry area, where you can take a ferry to the two other piers - Shueishe and Syuanguang. Skylight B&B is located at Itashao, which is more peaceful and less crowded with tourists compared to Shueishe. There are local food stalls and shops around Skylight which makes it very convenient for us. Skylight is also near the cable car centre (within walking distance). The room at Skylight is very clean and new. The bathroom is of hotel standard - there is a jacuzzi in the bathroom for relaxation. It was a very comfortable stay!

The b & b seems to be small from outside. BUT the inside was just sooo classy and comfortable! The room we had was cozy and everything was so new, comfortable and relaxing during our one night stay in Sun Moon Lake. The room has the perfect view of the lake and the owner was very good! He was the recep, the chef and etc. Very well designed and multi-tasked owner of the b & b. Our breakfast was great and it was little too much.. When we asked the owner, he said one sentence which made us come back to stay again:"More is better than Less for the food".. Not a stingy owner.. Definately come back to stay again!

Modern hotel on busy pedestrian street”
My wife and I stayed here on our last night in Taiwan (four nights total) and enjoyed the Skylight very much. It's on a busy pedestrian street right in the middle of Sun Moon Lake's Ita Thao (indigenous) town. A lot of reviews of the area claim SML is Taiwan's honeymoon destination and while I have a hard time seeing the romance in the town, we found the Skylight to be a tranquil oasis in the otherwise busy pedestrian shopping district. Our room was on the 6th floor with a slim view of the lake in between buildings. The large bathroom and submerged tub took up most of the room and the very helpful receptionist cautioned us against using the rain shower as it would likely leak through the night. Still for a little of US$100 the Skylight was worth it. My wife had the Chinese breakfast which she didn't care for, and I had the Western breakfast which was delicious. I think the northern end of SML boasts more expensive lodging, while the southern end is more modest. The town thins out later in the day as day trippers hop back on their coaches. I found the area more serene in the morning than at noon. If you can't read Chinese, good luck figuring out the massive futuristic remote control!
