Agoda in the News Shinjuku hotel deals for the Tokyo Marathon 2012

SINGAPORE (November 30, 2011), a leading global hotel booking site and part of Nasdaq-listed Priceline Group (Nasdaq: PCLN), today announced great-value deals at hotels in Shinjuku, the starting point of the Tokyo Marathon.

Launched in 2007, the Tokyo Marathon is today a major international sports event. Offering a 10km course as well as a full-length marathon of 42km, plus a three-day expo and its own theme song, the marathon attracts global attention, with applicants this year in excess of 283,000.

Both foreigners and nationals can register, with elite runners competing alongside general participants, charity runners, disabled entrants and wheelchair racers. Under-18s wanting to compete can take part in the 10-kilometer course. In total, 36,000 competitors will race, with general participant entrants decided by lottery. The Tokyo Marathon also serves as a trial race for selection of the Japanese Olympic team for the London 2012 games, making it an important national event.

Charity registration accounts for 3,000 places, reserved for runners making donations of ¥100,000 or more to the "Tsunagu" program. Last year, ¥73,253,580 was raised for charities spanning child services, environmental protection, third-world aid, disabled athletes and a selection of public safety and protection organizations.

To motivate and inspire, Tokyo Marathon Music released the Trial 10km compilation by Japanese DJ/producer Note Native. The 60-minute mix features upbeat pop and dance tracks, including the marathon's theme song, "The Day We Unite". Two additional themed soundtracks are also available: Tokyo Morning Run and Tokyo Night Run – each reflecting different moods of the city and designed to help runners maintain rhythm and concentration.

Travelers staying in a Shinjuku hotel for the Tokyo Marathon are in one of the best positions to go shopping and sight-seeing in the capital. Shinjuku is connected by train to a vast array of Tokyo attractions, with efficient access to the shops of Ginza and Harajuku, the restaurants of Shibuya, and the nightlife of Roppongi. Akihabara Electric Town is only a short train-trip away and Mount Fuji can be reached via express train in less than two hours. hot hotel rates in Shinjuku, Tokyo
