Quiet, clean, comfortable”
We enjoyed our time at the resort. There are only two bungalows. Ours has a king bed and a sitting area, complete with a DVD player. Very homey feeling. Staff are very friendly and attentive to all needs. We went diving every day, and ate at the restaurant many times. Susnset beach is quiet and clean, in no small part due to the attentiveness of Sabye Sports and Smuggler's Hideaway. Those are the same businesses and most people on the island are familiar with Sabye, but don't know Smuggler's.
So peaceful you have the whole beach to yourself in the morning and evening.”
So peaceful you have the whole beach to yourself in the morning and evening. Unique room and set up. Very nice way to be alone on Koh Lipe. Very few facilities right nearby, but a 10 minute walk away gets you in to town. The manager offered to drive me for free whenever I wanted as well. The beach get a nice sunset crowd for those who might get lonely.
We enjoyed our stay so much we added onto our plans and booked 7 nights in all! The location is excellent, right on Sunset Beach with a restaurant to watch the sunset/ The resort is very quiet for an extremely pleasant stay. The staff are very friendly and Poom at the restaurant treated us very well. Sa and the kitchen staff were great preparing hot delicious food quickly in a very clean and efficiently run kitchen. The bungalows are very large and well appointed with king beds, TV/DVD, large bathroom, sitting areas in and out, breezy and quiet. The dive staff are very accommodating and have all the gear required including kayaks, boards, dive and snorkel and more. It takes about 10- 15 minutes to walk to the other beaches or walking street. We would highly staying if you seek a quiet sanctuary on one of the nicest beaches in the area.
nice hotel surrounding by beach and friendly staff”
Local people did not know the Smuggler's Hideaway Resort, local people mentioned as Sabye Dive. We asked many local people also no one know's Smuggler's Hideaway Resort. This should be mentioned in Agoda.
Excellent location but DIY”
Sunset beach is definitely the best and quietest beach to stay on Koh Lipe. However, Smuggler's Hideaway Resort and its Flour Power Cafe and bar make extravagant claims about how good they are... Many of them are just not true. There was a complete lack of service, the room was only cleaned once during a 5 night stay and this was only after we requested. One of the fans did not work properly and this made the room uncomfortably hot during the late afternoon and evening. No effort was made on the part of the manager to ensure that we had a comfortable stay - no feedback was requested when we checked out. This place has a great deal of potential but the management appears to be non-existent. It is an excellent location but beware the pictures and claims that are made about Smugler's Hideaway in their advertising. If you are into a very laid-back do-it-yourself accommodation then this may be the place for you. Back
the place was awesome. clean, quite. very close to the sunset beach. delicious breakfast. owner was very helpful and friendly. wish to stay there longer. recommend to stay at that bungalow or other hotels near that beach.
If you want to get away from it all.”
Very pleasant. Small family run business, only two bungalows. Nothing else on the bay so you have the beach almost to yourself for the majority of the time. Lovely small rocky inlets when tide is out. Sunset viewers arrived from 5:00pm, mostly gone by 7:00pm. The food is expensive by comparison to the main beaches, but is far better quality. Home cooked, fresh, authentic, the curries ( all of them ) are fabulous. Staff very pleasant and helpful. You do need to ask for things and they tend to wait rather than automatically offer, but always prompt and obliging. Surprisingly good diving. If you want peace and quiet in a small out of the way place with an authentic Thai feel ( not at all touristy ) look no further.
Remote area with chaos in the backyard ”
First of all, the sunset beach has lots of construction and there are lots of chaos in the backyard of this resort. Secondly, the room is big and sort of modern comparing to other remote resort. However, it is kind of old and has some strange smell around, thirdly, there are lots of Mosquitos which make u feel uncomfortable. You can go snorkel in sunset beach, but there are not so many colorful corals, overall, I think this resort is overrated, it is not worth of the price. Anyway, To book in agoda is kind of tricky, as you will end up paying 50% more than you just walk in the resort. At least that what I have experienced in kph lipe. The food in this resort is nice but quite expensive comparing to other part of the island. It is silent at night, but you can hear some disco kind of music during the day, it is quite annoying. Anyway, pls be careful, don't book on line, just walk in, there are so many good resort around. As I am not the only one who experienced such unfair price for exactly the same room, paid much more than people just walk in.
My kind of place”
Smugglers will never be a 5-star - it doesn't want to be and fills its role as a dive/snorkel resort just fine. The staff were there when you needed them, but not to the point of annoyance or disregard. The rest of this small island is layered with tourists and 24-hour construction of shoddy new places for them to stay, but at Smugglers you get more a feel that you are one of only a few people on the island. The rooms were pleasant and comfortable and had all the conveniences of home - even extra electrical outlets for your gadgets and a safe for valuables. They arranged our seamless land and water transport to and from the island and were ready for us by name when we arrived. A solid 3-star plus that will be appreciated by the experienced traveler.
Ok beach place but missing a few essentials”
Nice enough place to stay with beautiful Thai designed huts, friendly staff, close access to beach and walkable to local restaurants / shops (Koh Lipe being very small). However it's an expensive place missing a few key essentials - WIFI could not be access in room at all and at times cannot connect in public WIFI, in room safe could not be used and staff had no idea how to fix it. Generally overpriced, but that's the nature of Koh Lipe which has turned into an overpriced tourist trap in the last few years. Will be trying out other accommodations in the island if return next time.
Picture perfect happy hour at the sunset”
The orner is vert kind ans very open to share any information about thé island. The food is amazing. Thé Best place to stay on sunset beach
1 minute walk down the path outside our bungalow and we are on sunset Beach. Very peaceful and clean place.
Hideout with your very own beach”
A great place to stay away from other densely populated beaches. Friendly and helpful English speaking staff. Lots of equipment available for (kayak, paddle board, diving etc.) and scrumptious breakfast. Comfortable room with big screen TV and cold water dispenser. Really enjoyable stay.
Very nice location, on the quiet sunset beach. Just 15 minutes away from center and other beaches
Nice bungalows, close to beach. ”
Pros - Bungalows are very spacious and right on sunset beach. Provided drinking water was nice. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Cons - Having to turn the power off to the entire bungalow every time I went out for the day, rendered the fridge a bit useless as contents would be warm by the time I returned. I stayed for 6 nights and my room was never serviced. Waste bins were never emptied. Room was never cleaned. No new bath towels. That was disappointing.
Wonderfully located, great staff and delicious food.”
The place is very close to a wonderful beach. The owner is a very sympathetic guy and the staff is lovely. There is also a cheap little restaurant attached to the place where they serve delicious food.
Relax with nature”
The room is big, clean, comfortable and not too hot (even is only with fan in the room). As the room is made of bamboo, the room is not sound-proof as we can hear the workers were talking and preparing the stuff in the kitchen early in the morning, which is just next to our room. As the owner was away on the day we checked in, the staff was asking us to settle the payment (tax) when we have already made full payment via agoda.com. When we asked for extra toilet paper and bottled drinking water, the staff was unsure and told us we got to wait for the owner to come back as the owner was not around that time.
No wifi and ”
During our 4 days at the smugglers we had no wifi and the card/key reader for electricity didnt work. It is a nice hut but these things damage the overall picture and arent that hard to avoid. Clean and nice hut. Beach isnt as nice as espected. Staff isnt available all time long.
Stayed only one night because we didn't like the smell inside generated by the carpets(why put carpets in a bungalow in Thailand?!). Furthermore the staff was not very friendly and the grounds are not that nice(no real garden, just some sacks of sand piled up here and there). But good ventilation, you can sleep without AC.
Hidden old bungalow in quite place, walking distance to everywhere, nice beach with best sunset !”
Lots of mosquitos, good experience for couple nights if you stay only hotels, Good location !
