A good deal for the money we paid”
We had a pleasant stay overall at Kawan. The staff is nice and very helpful, the hostel is located right between Little India and a mall area, in a cute little street. Note that the breakfast is just toasts and instant coffee and the dorms are pretty small. A good deal for the price we paid.

Great Stay”
Nice place to stay. enough facilities to the price. Since this is not a hotel and it's a hostel you cannot expect luxury stay on here. But it's very safe and rooms are very clear. Staff is very friendly. They have special discount tickets for all the attention in Singapore.

Value with price”
The hotel value with price, staffs were friendly, just few mins walking to rochor mrt station, and queen street bus to Johor. Able to walk to Little India and Bugis to see around.

Clean and comfortable”
Overall it's nice to be there. At that time we check in at 11.00 although check in time suppose to be at 2 pm. But the room is ready so we can check in earlier. The bath room is clean and equipped with hot shower. The bed is nice and comfortable. Although there's a little language problem with the receptionist and lead to misunderstanding but everthing is fine. He's a nice and caring person. The breakfast is huge, bread with 3 kind of jam plus coffe and teh tarik. You can eat as you like. And what we like most is that the hostel is right in front of a mosque, so as a moslem we feel safe an warm. And it's easy to find halal foods there. And the taste are delicious. The price is adfordable around $20 for 4 person. But if you go to a fancy restourant there it's around $50 for 4 people.

VALUE FOR MONEY!”
Booked this budget-friendly HOSTEL w/ private bathroom for 4pax. BIG CHECK ON PRIVATE BATHROOM. It's not as clean as hotels but it's better than what most reviews portray it to be. Bathroom is clean and equipped w/ heater. Their blankets have seen better days though; sheets changed once in 5 days. Trash emptied every day but bathroom tissue not replenished. Room needs improvement on cleanliness but we're out the whole day and for its price, THIS IS A STEAL. We'd rather spend SGD120 (5D/4N) we saved for food. Location is exceptional as it is smack in the middle of Jalan Besar (via Upper Weld Road) and Rochor Stations (Turn right to Perak St and the MRT is there!). We did DIY walking tours in the early morning to Mustafa, Tekka Centre, Kampong Glam, Haji Lane, and Bugis. Very accessible to cheap local food as well; hotel 1.5L water is cheap. It’s a hostel so don’t expect it to be top notch but we’re okay with it since we are out the whole day. OH, AND OWNER GIVES FREE 500MB SIM CARD.

Shocked.”
They let us in the hotel even before our check in time (thank goodness!). The directions going to the hotel was actually easy to follow, so we didn't have a problem locating the hostel. I didn't bring soaps and other toiletries because I thought they will be giving some, but they didn't. However, there was a convenience store just ~30 meters away from the hostel so I was able to buy some). No towels provided so you have to rent if you need one. The room was small and they only have 2 sockets (in a room for 4 people!) The lock to our door was supposed to be double but the other lock was not functional so we wanted to avail of the lockers (we wanted to rent a lock for 1SGD) but they refused and said that the locks are only for dormitories and since we were getting the whole room, we cannot rent them (huh?) We were almost out the whole day and when we came back, we were all surprised since the room was different. We left one light out so we won't have a problem when we come back and it is dark, however, when we came back, it was turned off, and what is really more perplexing is that the windows were open!! We panicked a bit and checked our valuables because we left our gadgets inside our lockers (that didn't have locks because they didn't allow us to rent them!). Good thing nothing was lost, maybe we were just paranoid or something but that really shocked us. (first time this happened to me, personally!) The bathroom on the hostel was really really small, that you can't actually spread your both arms and taking 3 steps from the toilet will take you out of the bathroom already. I was also confused because I didn't know how to operate their heater. :)) However, the staff were all accommodating and they offered to store our luggages when they learned that we will be roaming around first before going to the airport. They also engaged us in conversation before we checked out and they seemed friendly. :) For the price, as compared to other hostels in SG, I think this is alr

A perfect quick getaway”
It was a pleasant stay as the beds were in a high-ceiling room with 2 attached bathrooms which were really convenient and saved us a lot of time and hassle. The close proximity to Little India MRT was also a key factor in choosing the hostel. Free unlimited breakfast was provided to our delight. An enjoyable stay, highly recommended.

Overall**good**”
I don't definitely book kawan hotel again, staff was friendly and it was clean. I didn't have any problem except for the fact that they had somebody issues with wifi and we couldn't use it in our rooms but that wasn't big deal for me. I will definitely recommend you guys to book this hostel, it's cheap and very reasonable.

Fully refurbished just recently, like brand new!”
This place was previously called Dunlop Backpackers' and has been around for years, the past reviews and comments were somewhat rather not positive. Hence I was really taking a risk in trying this place out, hoping that the new management who took over the place did the duly job in refurbishing things. I was not let down at all.

Okay”
One of the most affordable ones when I booked for our family. Room was bigger than it looks in the photos, and had a private bathroom. Breakfast was alright, bread and jam only, though they did not have utensils when we went (they only had cups no spoon fork etc). Front desk at night was a Filipina she was nice and accommodating. Overall, inn was okay, you get what you pay for. The only thing that bothered me was the smell in the neighborhood. Smell of herbs and curry was foreign to me so the whole time I stayed in SG I was dizzy and had a headache.

Great Location but little bit noisy”
First I was a little disappointed, because I asked they to be picked up at the airport, but no ones came to pick up. Then I booked family room with 4 beds for 3 nights. But after I got there they give us mix dorm room with 8 beds. I was getting frustrated, because I do not want to if other people get into our room. But after I talk with the hostel staff, they were told that the room with 8 beds was only for us for 3 nights. Our disappointment is gone we booked a family room with 4 beds but we were getting a room with 8 beds and 2 bathrooms with the same price.. How lucky we're.. hehe but last night I felt very irritation sleep there, probably because they do not change the sheets while cleaning the room..

Nearby Bugis Market”
The location was very great! It was near with Rochor MRT (you can take Rochor station instead of Bugis!). It was just 5 minutes walked from Rochor station. And around 10 minutes walk to Bugis market and Bugis junction. The staff was very helpful. Breakfast was quite good, hot milk tea and toast. You can find India/ moslem/ halal food around.

Good location, near MRT (Little India, Bugis)”
Kawan Hostel is a basic hostel with small dorms, but it is tidy and suitable for those, who suppose not to spend most time for staying at the room. The receiptionists and staffs are very friendly, who can provide you many useful information for food places and entertainment places. We did have a good holidays in Singapore.

Smelly rooms, dirty beds”
Check in was smooth, but as you enter the hostel's dorms, the stench will set you back. Air circulation is not good, and it really stinks. Bed is not comfortable. Although a thick mattress is provided, it is sunken-in and your back really hurts from lying on it. Would prefer a thin but flat mattress over hurting your back. Bedsheets, blanket and pillow smells and felt dirty with patches and torn sides. Toilet was acceptable with strong water pressure and temperature for hot shower. No toiletries provided, no tower, nothing. Toilet in big dorm lack rack or hooks. Location is really good with the new downtown MRT line (Rochor) within few minutes walk. Walking distance to Indian, Malay Heritage area, and also Bugis area for some shopping and eats. Near Tekka Market which has fresh marktet produce as well as Singapore Hawker food but mainly indian good choices. As it is located in Little India, a special prohibition of drinking or sales of alcohol is active during certain period of time on certain days of the week, Near bus terminal for causeway link or other companies with buses to/from Malaysia. Staff is friendly and helpful. A plus. They dont tout for tours or attraction tickets, but the prices arent that competitive anyway.
