Comfortable with a fantastic view of the river”

Unique hotel and very friendly staff

We really enjoy staying at Sofa Gallery Hotel. We booked a Garden view Room but we upgraded for the River Room for 400Bt. The room was very comfortable with a fantastic view of the river. The breakfast was great. We love the staffs here. When we left the hotel, We booked a car from the hotel to take us to Chiankhan, an old city about 250km north of Nongkhai. We stoped at several places along the way such as Sangkom, Park chom and Wat Him Mak Peng. The Meakhong river view along the road was very beautiful. The trip was great and we will definitely do it again.

brings the term personable to a new level!”

The staff and management, the facility and the general warm feel of the experience.

occasionally in my travels i find things that make an entire journey worthwhile. the sofa gallery is such a place. i went up to nongkhai for other reasons, but will return for the chance to stay and experence this wonderful little place. nothing in the world suits everybodys taste entirely, but if you like comfort and calming ambience along with exemplary food and service this is the place. i found its location to be quite good for me, as i was driving a car. but i have no doubt the management can help out those on foot with getting around comfortably. their recomendations for places to visit was spot on for us! i am looking forward to bring family and guest to visit them again soon! thank you mr viset and max! you are first class! i am happy to have met you!

Watched the river flow by in calm surroudings”

Riverfront garden with koi pool. New hotel & clean.

Great little hotel in NongKhai. We spotted it last time we were in the town but had already booked elsewhere. We were most happy for the peace and quiet of this hotel after the visa run to Laos. The garden and views of the river are beautiful and then we walked into town for a meal at a Vietnamese restaurant on the river which seemed popular with local residents. The staff were friendly and the fact that the hotel and all furnishings are new and clean (we’ve had some nightmares before in Nongkhai and Udon) we’ll try and stay here next time. We stayed in the garden room but next time would like to stay in the river front rooms because we saw they have balconies and bathrooms that look out onto the river. Really nice. Philippa

Charming bed and breakfast on the Mekong River”

Personalized service, small and secluded, nice view, quiet

The Sofa Gallery hotel is similar to a bed and breakfast. Khun Viset has renovated an old house along the Mekong to accommodate guests. The hotel is on the outskirts of town on the bank of the Mekong River towards the Friendship Bridge to Laos. It is nice to be away from the seediness of the tourist part of town, Thaa Sadej, where there are numerous guesthouses but feels unsafe. The Sofa Gallery is in a safe, quiet location. Transportation is required to go into town, which can be called to pick up guests from the hotel. The hotel serves a local style breakfast with several items to choose from or one can sample all. There is no kitchen but a few dishes are available and there are a list of items the hotel staff will order for nearby restaurants. Free wifi but no television. The hotel is new, so still needs to work out some kinks.

            Hotel with the best feeling!”

Location right on the Mekong River, gorgeous Thai gardens front and rear; friendly, helpful, genuine staff

Walking into the Sofa Gallery is like walking into a small garden paradise. So peaceful. The rooms are also beautifully furnished with comfortable beds and a good functional bathroom. I stayed in a garden view room however was not really able to see the garden from the top floor. The Riverview rooms on the ground floor have a magnificent view of the back garden and the Mekong. These are well worth a few extra dollars. Relaxing in the back terrace style garden overlooking the Mekong at sunset, after dinner and for breakfast all give a sense of luxury. I arrived too late to order dinner however breakfast was simple but fresh and delicious Thai style. Other guests opted for a continental style breakfast. The staff were incredibly accommodating in everything from food choices to helping to resolve issues with foreign exchange. I highly recommend this hotel.

            Great view, excellent service”

Very nice view of the river from the upstairs balconies, breakfast was also very good.

Staying at Sofa Gallery is more like staying at someone's home than at a hotel. Very friendly, attentive staff. Rooms are a little small, but very, very clean. Also, perhaps because the rooms are a little small, the A.C. units in the rooms work very quickly. It's also only a short walk to two very nice restaurants on the Mekong. It's in a quiet location outside of town, but only a couple of minutes by Tuk Tuk to the center of town. We enjoyed our stay here very much.

            Private and quiet

perfect for a romantic getaway, this tiny 5 room boutique hotel offers the best views of the mekong and wonderful service. sofa gallery is decorated tastefully for the artistic and rustic eye. it is so peaceful to sit in the garden at the back, or on the river side. the only downside is it's slightly out of town. so hire bikes/ scooter or tuk tuk to get around.

Amost peaceful, lovely place to stay”

garden and outside areas, ponds with fish and lotus blossoms

The sofa gallery is quite unique, I feel it is a work in progress and will continue to blossom. The owner is very caring, and helpful. It is very artistic and peaceful, there are arrangements of fresh flowers everywhere and in our bedroom 3 arrangements. Our room was ground floor with a view of the Mekong river, just open the glass french doors and you are out in the paved area leading to the river. There is no television, we realized that to have had one in these surroundings would have ruined the ambience. About 600 metres towards town is a massage place which was excellent, we had oil massage. In all a great place to stay .

Wonderful hotel in a quiet town”

Very relaxing environment with a great view of the Mekong and wonderful staff

I absolutely loved this place, but it's definitely not for everyone. I spent 2 nights there, on my way to Ventiane, just on the other side of the Frendship Bridge across the Mekong river. If you need a swimming pool, gym, or even wifi or a TV, then this is not the place for you (but then what are you doing in Nong Khai?). If on the other hand you want a relaxing place to spend a few days away from the city, enjoying the sunrise and sunset on the Mekong in a small hotel decorated with taste, then this is the place you have been looking for. The hotel is very small (maybe 5-6 rooms) with 4 rooms river side (the ones to get, in my opinion). It is an old habitation/trading building that belonged to the owner's grandparents and that has been converted into a hotel over the last 2 years. The two rooms on the top level of the hotel, river-side, have a huge balcony, of which the bathroom is a part. It's a strange setup at first, but really enjoyable (the balcony has a heavy leather curtain for privacy). I have read comments regarding the water in the shower not getting warm... Well, the shower and sink have no water temperature control, just debit control. You get whatever temperature comes out of the pipe, so you'll never get steaming hot water if that's your thing, but then it's really hot out there, and a refreshing shower is more what I needed. But still, "refreshing" is relative, it's 38° (100F) out there, and the water is never cool either. The breakfast is excellent. You get the choice between maybe 4-5 sets and you have to tell the day before at what time you plan to have breakfast so that the small staff (2 wonderful people, one lady and one man, the man can speak some English, the lady almost none). I had a great time at this hotel, and I only wish I had spent more time there, cutting on my time in Bangkok. If I return to Nong Khai (probably as part of a longer trip to Laos) I will definitely stay in this hotel again.

Lovely little boutique hotel set on the river.”

Great service, great food, good central location.

My friend and I booked two nights at the sofa gallery hotel. Our host "Ty" was extremely welcoming and helpful. He was able to recommend places to eat, although I found the food at the hotel to be the best. Any request was catered for and the service from the staff was of a very high standard. At times they fussed over us a little to much, if you like that level of service you would be very satisfied. The hotel was in a good location, a short stroll into town and not far from the friendship bridge. We had no problem crossing the boarder here to Laos.

            Quaint and authentic Thai residence”

The hotel is contemporary in appearance accessorised in tasteful Thai furnishings.

The hotel is located close to the Meekong river in a peaceful and quiet end of town. The staff are very friendly and helpful which made us feel at home. It is a small hotel decorated in lovely Thai soft furnishings that complement the hotel's rustic feel and design beautifully. We were very comfortable and it felt more like a big home than a hotel. We enjoyed our stay and can highly recommend it to anyone travelling around Nongkhai or into Laos.

Great Service, Bang on the River, Cute Hotel”

Lovely Decor, Great Service, River View, Staff

As soon as we arrived we were made very welcome by the staff and the owner. The hotel is DIRECTLY on the river offering great views of the river Mekong. The hotel has 5 bedrooms, so it is a boutique hotel. The decor is fantastic (because the owner went to art school). Everybody talks excellent English. You get a choice of 4 menus for breakfast, but they appear to be very flexible if you want something changed. Travel distance to city center is about 5 minutes by tuk tuk (local taxi) or motorbike.

Great Staff, Rooms with Character, but can Improve”

breakfast, the staff, the beautiful view of the Mekong

There are many places to stay in Nong Khai. I keep trying new ones. The Sofa Gallery Hotel is full of beautiful art work and peaceful places to sit and read or relax. I was the only one there so I had a lot of time to just be at peace. The rooms are ok but with a little work could be great! They have a nice deck to relax on and view the Mekong. The breakfast was very good too. Would I return? Im not sure, like I said there are many good aspects of this place and the people but they just need to work on the rooms. The are simple but decorated beautifully. The bed is Thai which I happen to like. The bath is outside so you share with geckoes and mosquitos. There is no restaurant at this time since it is rainy season. There is no pool. Wifi works great but there is no desk to work at. Televisions are not around which is ok by me but for the price it needs some good care. Again could not say enough of the staff they are fantastic, but when leaving not around. Think I will try it again though, just to see if these reviews do any good;)

            A loo with a view”

Wonderful view of the garden and Mekong from the rooms

This has I think about six rooms. The people who run it are very friendly and helpful and the garden is a pleasant venue for breakfast by the Mekong. Then there is the design of the rooms. The room we had itself only really accommodated the bed. It gave onto a nice terrace for sitting out with a wonderful view of the garden and Mekong but the terrace also included the toilet, wash basin and shower in an open plan arrangement. Unless care is taken to fully lower the roller blind one could be caught on the toilet in full view of those breakfasting in the garden! Even if the blind is lowered, if two of you are sitting on the terrace its impossible to use the toilet privately. The whole design is bizarre when a simple screening off of the toilet and shower area from the terrace would solve the problem. The Sofa Gallery is a tuk-tuk ride from the town centre, its not really walkable, and whatever maps may say it is no longer opposite Nong Khai station, which has been moved to a location a couple of kilometres away with the opening of the line of Laos.

            Wonderful atmosphere and hospitability”

beautiful appearance, friendly staff, free wifi, nice river view

We stayed only for one night in Nong khai before moving on to Vientiane.Nong Khai is a quite place perfect for relaxing - no stressy sight seeing schedule, no night life until early morning. The hotel is located few min away from the city center in a quite location close to the Mekong river. The staff were friendly and the hotel atmosphere was perfect for relaxing after our tiresome trip to the beaches and the islands in South Thailand. Though the lunch we ordered was a little expensive at the hotel than I would have thought - better to have a stroll along the road for few hundred meters where some road side restaurants offer cheap and tasty food.

            pleasant and relaxing”

artistic appearance and interesting architecture with a beautiful garden and very friendly staff

it was relaxing and enjoyable with a great view of the meekong river and the breakfast was varied and good with a relaxed approach as it is a small hotel with 5 rooms there was no rush and very personal service. The swimming pool was in fact a fish pond and not available for swimming but it looked very nice framed by the doorway and followed by the view of the meekong. I enjoyed the stay there but would probably choose a more practical place as there were some things like the bathroom and door and swimming pool that looked very nice but did not work as well as they could for the price paid.

Small hotel, but nice. Very nice !”

Wonderfully friendly owner and staff, beautifully and quietly situated at the shore of the Mekong

wonderful little hotel a little bit outside of the centre of nong khai. quiet and peaceful. very stylish house and garden, built to the visions of the owner of the house. the owner and staff do anything to make the visitor feel as being a part of the family. the owner speaks english very well, due to a long stay overseas. the food that this hotel serves is also a1 ! you´ll get specialties from thailand in common, the isaan in special, from laos, from vietnam...... as well for breakfast as for dinner. high quality. when you like loud music, many bars in the vicinity and nightlife as you know it from phuket, pataya of bangkok, this is definitely not the hotel of choice for you. when you like the view on the gentle flowing mighty river mekong, when you like it being treated as a good friend of the family, when you like it being, when you like it quiet, watching catfishes in the water oder precious plants growing on trees - then this house should be your first choice when staying in nong khai. i give this house 5 stars.

arty hotel, too far out of town for some visitors”

            arty; excellent service;

This is an excellent hote. It's small, with just five guest rooms. It only opened early tis year. The owner has put a great deal of effort into renovating an old house. Sonme rooms have a wonderful view over the Mekong, others over the garden. Breakfast is personally prepared and is different each day. The owner and his partner can provided massage and they are very knowledgeable about Nong Khai and can arrange transport forsightseeing and to the bus depot.

            Absolutely a gem...lovely zen experience.”

The gardens and location on the water is lovely.

I am so grateful to have found this little gem . It's just outside the city limits so you will need to use the Tuk-tuks but I used the same one that picked me up at the bus station. The drivers did not try to rob you with unusual request for fares. My room was absolutely spotless and comfortable. There is no phone or tv., but everywhere you looked was art. This is not a holiday inn, so if that's what you want...stay home. They have a limited menu, and it is never exactly what you expected but everything I ate was so beautiful that I took a picture and very tasty.
