One of the best hotels on offer in Seoul!”
i stayed with my mother at the somerset palace seoul for just over a week. it was a relief for us that the aircon was in good working condition because temperatures were still in the high 20s. rooms were cleaned and replenished with clean towels on a daily basis. front desk was very helpful, english is not fluent but passable. don't worry if you forgot to bring the right power adaptor - there are conversion adaptors available for rental (free) at reception. very close to anguk station - just bring an umbrella if it is pouring because there is no shelter from the subway exit to the hotel just a 2 minute walk to insadong-gil, plenty of good eateries and tourist-friendly shops. all shopping locations such as dongdaemun and myeongdong are only a few stations away, with only 1-2 line changes. the subway is like a maze, so be careful not to assume the line change is directly opposite to you: we saw many people walk in the wrong direction (even locals) and they had to retrace their steps...which means a lot of stairs to climb. another thing to note is that if you are planning to visit the other side of the river (ie: gangnam, coex in samsungdong, garosugil in apgujeong etc) try to score a seat on the train because they are quite a few stations away...a taxi ride back to somerset is comparatively better if you've had a long day and you're stuck on the train in peak hour and having to stand in sauna-like stations (seoul is eco-friendly, there is no aircon or good ventilation down in the subway)...it actually doesn't cost alot for a nice, comfy, air-conditioned ride home finally, if you're on the lookout for a good korean bbq that is not too expensive but you get value for money, i highly recommend "hwang geum jeong" (anguk station, exit 2)...my mum and i stuffed ourselves silly with plenty of meat dishes and the side dishes were amazing. the ladies that work there understand a little bit of english. it was so good, we went there 4 days in a row!
It's really an apartment building.”
The Somerset Palace is really a high-rise apartment building, and the rooms are serviced apartments, with a sitting area and a fully functioning kitchen area. This is both a plus and minus, depending on what you are looking for. They are luxurious, and the rooms have all the amenities you would expect in a luxury hotel, with the exception of internet hook-up, for which they charge you extra. For us it was a treat to be able to spread out our things after being squeezed into tiny spaces. I think the Somerset Palace is a pretty good value for what you get, and great for families who want a lot of room. If I have any quibbles, it is with the impersonal feeling of the place, and the lack of warmth or personal attention. I didn't get the feeling that customer satisfaction is a top priority here. For instance, I was unable to book a room with twin beds through Agoda, though I saw that they were available at the same price on other webistes. In my experience, double bed and twin bed rooms are always priced the same. But when I arrived at the Somerset Palace, I was told that I would have to pay extra for a room with twin beds. Their inflexible stance on this issue gave me mixed feelings about an otherwise nice place.
Great Night”
While visiting Seoul I had the opportunity to stay at the Somerset Palace Hotel again. I have written reviews before now about the Somerset, but this time I had a chance to make it to the complimentary breakfast. I must say, "It was worth waking up for." I was greeted upon entry with a smile and a sincere "goodmorning". Looking around, I saw many choices of fruits, juices, meats, and select bread types. In addition to an egg chef on-site to prepare any style of egg I wanted. This was a great start to a day filled with the hustle and bustle of being in an extremely large city.
Somerset Palace Seoul...Location is the key!”
we stayed in the somerset palace last may27-31, 2012. just came from jeju and stayed in shilla hotel in jeju. stayed here with my parents, 75 and 69 years old respectively. my decision to stay in somerset was mainly of its location and i was not disappointed. it was very near the 3 palaces, the gwanghamun plaza, the cheonggyechon stream, the 50 foot shell, insadong street, anguk station, bukchon hanok village and its all by foot. the place itself was just fine, its a serviced apartment so its a far cry from the hotel we just recently stayed. there was a queen sized bed, a small kitchen with microwave oven, a kettle, a stove, a refrigerator, mugs, plates and utensils , generous complimentary coffee and tea packets although it stopped being refilled after two nights of stay. the toilet is just okay with basic necessities provided except no toothbrushes. the housekeeping is prompt and neat. no wi-fi in the room though, one has to go to the business center to surf the net, although one can just stay near the business center and can get the free wi-fi. i used their pc and printing services. there was a breakfast buffet but we did not ate there as my parents opted to eat outside instead. the staffs were friendly, can speak english and helpful as well. there were three restaurants in the building, a convenient store just in case you ran out of some supplies. there was rooftop garden with the swimming pool and the view was just amazing. we also went to places other than seoul like chuncheon in gwandong and we just get the bus from insadong and the subway location cannot be over empasized that its a major plus as from anguk station which was wa lking distance from the somerset is just so convenient to go around seoul. i will recommend it if just for the location alone especially if you need a decent place to sleep, take a bath, rest for awhile the off you go again to explore the beautiful korea.
Great service apartment near Insadong”
This is our second times here at Somerset Palace Seoul, First time we stayed in Seoul we have got their Studio apartment which is perfect for two person with fully equipped kitchen you can cook breakfast in the apartment before heading out for the day. This time, Its a quick weekend getaway with Me, my husband and my mum so we booked a 2 bedrooms apartment, checking was easy they gave us an upgrade to penthouse suite on the top floor It was very big and nice clean apartment each bedroom have their own ensuite. Our master bedroom and a walk in closet. This apartment also have kitchen/bar, dinning , lounge are and a laundry room with own washing machine - highly recommended if you will be spending a lot of time here in Seoul. As we only stayed for 2 nights we didn't get to use the laundry facility. Swimming pool and garden are on the roof top it was lovely we went up to have a quick look but it rain shortly after that so we didn't get a chance to hang around in the garden. The only Cons for Somerset is - There is no Free Wifi in hotel room, There is only free wifi in the lobby or in the club house facility. Transportation : Its about 5 mins walk from Anguk Station. From the airport you can catch one of the airport limousine bus that will drop you off at Anguk station and walk to the hotel. Food: There are plenty of restaurants and tea house in Insadong, Or you can do walk to Myeong-dong ( about 30 -40 mins) We love Insadong Area and think its quite safe to walk around. Last time we stayed in Itewon but didn't like it as much. Short walk to Gyeong Bok Gung Palace. - If you like walking this area is perfect for you. Next time we're going back to Seoul we'll be using this service apartment again.
Exceptional”
We had the most wonderful holiday in Seoul and found that the Somerset Palace hotel made the perfect base. We liked everything about the hotel - the staff are friendly and helpful, the apartment spacious, comfortable and very clean, the breakfast offered plenty of different options and the location couldn't have been better for us. We hope to visit Seoul again and would certainly stop here again when we do.
Great Hotel that you wont regret staying”
Booked Studio Room Clean room, polite front desk staffs, and the room is fitted with washing machine for us to wash our clothes during the many days in Korea. Near Insa-dong market and Anguk Station. Great breakfast option. We will definitely stay with Somerset Palace Seoul again when we go to Korea.
Very Comforting..”
DATE OF STAY: FEBRUARY 20-FEBRUARY 22, 2009 While in Seoul I stayed at the Somerset Palace and I must say I was impressed. The level of service and courteous staff were a delight to have after a long flight. I especially appreciated how only residents were able to gain access to the floors. That is a security feature I can always appreciate. Since my return, I've recommended this hotel to many of my friends that have plans on visiting Seoul in the near future.
Fabulous hotel, worth every penny”
I believe that the Somerset Palace was rated as a 4 star hotel, I could be wrong, cause I think the rating should have been a 5. The staff was very accomodating and this property is just beautiful. The rooftop is just wonderful with a pool and jacuzzis. We also enjoyed all the little gazebo settings upstairs, nice place to just chat or read or to enjoy the serenity and scenery. The Palace is also about 5 minutes away from the hotel....a must to see. I have travelled to other countries and stayed in quite a few fine hotels, but I do believe that this was the best property, not only staffwise, but that subway and sights were all very close.
Nice Hotel in Seoul”
I traveled with my mom. We stayed 6 nights at Somerset Palace Seoul. The location is the best. Surely, I will recommend the hotel to my friends. The room is big, nice bed, sofa and full of hotel amenities with a little kitchen. All I want the hotel to improve is the cleanliness in hotel room. I found a little cup of yogurt under the sofa and also some M&M chocolates. Breakfast is just OK but you can find many good restaurants around the hotel. I will definitely come back to the hotel again.
Second Time around”
Staying at the Somerset again while I visited Seoul was just as rewarding as the last time I resided there. The staff was very helpful at answering any questions I had. They were also willing to go the extra mile to ensure I had everything I requested. This attribute is always appreciated after a long flight. Regretfully, I was unable to see if any changes were made to the breakfast menu, due to time constraints on my part. But, all and all I enjoyed my stay at the Somerset and each time I visit Seoul this will be my first hotel of choice.
Fabulous hotel. Perfectly located”
We stayed at Somerset Seoul for a few nights ....could have stayed even longer. Fabulous room with great view of Buddhist pagoda. We loved the kitchenette - made eating a little bit cheaper and easier as I'm vegi. Playroom was an added bonus for my 4 year old too. Really near to everything - Anguk Station exit 6. Right next to palace too.Lovely helpful staff. Would definitely stay there again! Fabulous!
We truly enjoyed our stay in Somerset Palace Hotel”
Somerset Palace Hotel has a good location. It is just a walking distance to some tourist attractions like the Geongbukgong Palace, Insadong & there is transportation going to the famous Seoul Tower. There are nearby Korean restaurants and convenience store. The hotel amenities are great, with nice swimming pool, fitness gym & a garden. The hotel room is clean and large, with soft bed, wide window with city view and a kitchen complete with utensils. Overall, we truly enjoyed our stay in this Somerset Hotel.Thank you Agoda!
Nice hotel, great location, great service”
This hotel is great if you're interested in sightseeing on the north side of the Han River. It's walking distance to many palaces, shops, and restaurants. It's only 1 block away from Insadong and about 1-2 blocks from Anguk subway station. Our room was immaculate and having a kitchen and washer/dryer was great. The staff was very helpful and friendly. There are also several restaurant options within the hotel. We tried the continental breakfast, but we preferred eating elsewhere. The Italian restaurant has a great buffet at the lunch hour and we received great service. I would definitely recommend and stay again at Somerset.
Being Home away from home”
Somerset Palace Seoul is what my friends call my "Second Home". The location is great, being close to places of interest and it is only a 5 mins walk away from the subway. The breakfast spread is good and the service of the staff is simply awesome! Rooms are spacious and impeccably clean. Thumbs up!!!
Location, clean, security,”
A comfortable stay, room came with all the amenities you need. Location is excellent, across the road from Geongbukgung Palace and only a few minutes walk from Insadong street. Breakfast not fancy but very adequate. Would stay again. Helpful staff. Thank you Somerset Palace :-)
Residence Type & Good Location”
The facilities in general are rather old, but it's the largest room in Seoul for the price, and it's a resident type full option, so it's good to cook. Above all, it is very accessible to tourists because it is just around the corner of Gwanghwamun, Bukchon, Jogye Temple, and Insa-dong.
Happy couple from Sydney”
Fantastic location and really spacious room (1 bedroom executive suite). Some reviews mentioned the hotel was old and a bit worn out but we found it fine. I did bring my own towels & bedding etc as we stayed there for 9 nights. It was really handy to have a washer & dryer for this length of stay. Breakfast had a good variety of food and efforts were put in to alter the menu each day. Wifi speed was really good given we had 3 to 4 devices all hooked on at any one time. It was certainly a very pleasant and above expectation stay for us - we will definitely be staying in another Somerset facility around the globe for our next vacation!
We loved our stay here!”
We are satisfied with our stay and the room was huge and comfortable for our family. We enjoyed cooking in the apartment. The clothes washer and dryer was a plus point as we travelled during winter with a baby and kids. Convenient store located downstairs and few others just outside the hotel. Food was not a problem as there are plenty food outlets surrounding the hotels. Breakfast was satisfying. Location was superb as it is only about 10 minutes walk to Anguk Station. Insadong Street Market is 10-15 minutes away. Palaces to visit are also within walking distance. Overall, we loved it and will definitely come back to this hotel on our next trip to Seoul!
great location and super confy rooms”
we loved the somerset! it was the second time on our trip to south korea that we stayed there and both times were great. the location is amazing for any tourist, within a short walking distance to major attractions and close to public transport. whereas we are lazy and mostly took a taxi. the porter was very helpful in getting us a taxi everytime. the rooms are comfortable, clean and quite spacious. the staff is friendly and has very good english knowledge. a bonus is the complementary breakfast. and the italian restaurant is pretty good, we were quite surprised. (its embarrassing, but after 3 weeks we wanted some good ol pasta n pizza) we would go back to the somerset anytime.
