A good experience to stay in traditional korean house. Staff is friendly and helpful. ”
Breakfast is delicious. Very close to subway only few mins from exit 6. Only one thing is less good as the room temperature is too hot on the night I stay.(late March) and I can adjust the temperature.
CHARMING TRADITIONAL HANOK”
We loved Sophia from the location to the room to the owners. It was so lovely to stay in a traditional Hanok that even had the old way of locking the panel doors. The onky downside is the bathroom is outside so it was struggle going out in the middle of the night in cold autumn when you had to use it. Breakfast was good, simple but hearty soup, egg and bread. Sophia and her Mom was so engaging. The only downside was that we arrived early for checkin and we were told to come back at 3PM. So we had our late lunch but when we got back at precisely 3PM the room was not yet readym But overall a charming hanon that I would stay at again :)
It was a new and interesting experience. We were surprise they upgraded us to a very spacious room. We enjoyed the Bibimbap breakfast served the next morning. The location of the guesthouse was also strategically between Insadong and SamCheongDong area. Highly recommend for those looking for a taste of Hanok homestay and warm korean hospitality.
A nice experience.”
On the whole, it is still good. He is actually very easy to find. After getting off the train at Anguo Station, exit 1 will go right and go straight to the right. A three-way crossing will pass a female height and then go ahead a little bit. Looking to the left, a small alley can be found. The location is still relatively easy to find. South Korean time is breakfast time from 8: 00 am to 9: 00 am. It's delicious and traditional rice dressing. It's really nice to have a cup of instant coffee in the sun. When I went, the weather was cool and very good. I lived between two people and felt a little small. It was just the size of two people. I had to fold my suitcase and not spread it out. Otherwise, there was not enough room, and the room was still relatively clean. I just didn't know what strange smell it was and everything was fine except this one. The boss is very nice.
Traditional Hanok Located Near The Palaces”
We stayed here for 2 nights and was very enjoyable. Rooms had all the amenities (full shower, AC, TV) we needed. Had traditional bed rolls for the floor and not a bed. Includes breakfast which was delicious and something we looked forward to in the morning. It's also right in the middle of many restaurants, shops, and near the palaces. The host was very hospitable and helpful with any questions you had. We arrived early (before 8) and he let us check in early and still offered us breakfast for that day. Even though we had booked the 2 people room, when he saw our luggage, he gave us a bigger room with no extra charge. We would definitely stay here again
LOVE IT WILL RETURN”
Location was close to Anguk station, in the middle of many attractions and the family mending the space is so sweet. The photos does not do the space justice and the newly renovated toilets are very clean and pleseant to use. Floor heating is great too. I was excited to find restruants and craft beer bar right at the doorstep and there were no noise issues even so. Delicious breakfast served from 8 to 9am and there is wake up call for you to head to the dining room. Stay if you wish to experience friendltly hospitality and sleeping on the floor in traditional hanok. Only gripe is that there is poor noise insulation due to the built of the place but no worries if you are going to have breakfast anyway. Early morning is the best time to explore the Bukchon and Gyeongbukgong area before tour buses arrive.
Experience the Traditional Korean House in a tourist area”
Tucked in the end of an alley, adjacent to a coffee/beer bar and a shop selling home use aroma products. Single room is extremely small which is just the size of a bed, but there is a private bathroom inside with shower, toilet and wash basin. Shampoo, conidtioner, soap, three medium sized towels and lots of toilet paper are provided. Even though the room is so small, there are a flat TV, tissue paper, hair dryer and a make up mirro; so there is in fact everything you need. You can use the kitchen if you like and water (hot and cold) are provide in the drinking fountain inside the kitchen. Breakfast is also included but I chose not to take it. Check out time is 11am, which can be considered late for this type of accommodation. Once again, there were noisy Chinese people (Mandaring speaking) and Hongkongers staying there the night I was staying. That makes the whole environment very nosiy when they were there. Owners are nice and helpful.
Really unique and hidden place in the hearth of Seoul for a different experience; we were there in winter but inside the room was really hot, also too much at night; the host is really kind but he knows only few words in english, so it's diffcult to comunicate. Breakfast is at 8 am and he knocks on the room door calling "breakfast time", but it's a really unique experience of korean food and culture at the sunrise, where you can meet other guests.
A DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE”
Room is small which is to be expected and little furniture inside. We got two rooms, 6 & 7 and it looked as though recently renovated. Room is heated which is nice amd cosy. Bathroom is small.but the shower water is strong and hot. Best to Bukchon village, lots of places to eat and shop. Very quaint place. Not easy to find. Vehicle will not be able to bring you to the place. Need to walk a bit about 50m along the narrow room. If you want a standard type of Room, please don't consider such stay because you won't find it there and you will only complain. Maximum stay should not be more than 3 nights.
Great location, century-old Korean house with facelift.”
It's no longer Sophie's and had upgrades aft our last stay in 2016. Stayed in the same room and it had new in-suite bathroom and TV (couple of cabinets gone but that was ok). Love the traditional Korean breakfast. The old man that's running the place now doesn't speak much English as Sophie. Wifi signal is worse than last time (in the room we stayed). Overall, it's still worth staying!
Nice traditional hanok”
Good location, near Anguk station. Walk for 10 minutes to Gyeongbokgung Palace, Changdeokgung Palace and Insadong. The room is clean and warm with private toilet. The host is friendly. Breakfast time is 8am (western or korean breakfast). Now the guesthouse is renamed as Sosunjae and renovated. I will stay at this guesthouse next time.
Awesome stay !”
The hosts were very welcoming. They waited for us until we arrived even when we arrived late. The place was clean, and had all the amenities that we needed. Checking in and out was very easy. The location was in the perfect area. I would recommend this hanok for travellers .
First Traditional Hanok Stay”
Definitely loved the hanok stay experience itself -- this particular one is located right beside the museum (I think it's the National Museum of Korea, but it was closed in the morning when we went) and just a short throw away from the Bukchon Hanok Village (to soak yourself in some culture, art and history), and Insadong (my favourite part of Seoul). Insadong is a really comfortable place to be in from day till night. In the evening - night, you start seeing people coming out to roam this street that's a wonderful mix of warm lights, street food, restaurants, music, shops... I digress. This hanok is really superb in terms of location. Breakfast is really yummy too though he will knock on your door to tell you it's ready in the morning.. around 7am / 8am. Remember to shut the doors as mosquitoes can come in!
Good place to stay; clean and cozy”
Small room I booked. But it's cool that there is a private bathroom. I love it. Room and bathroom are all clean. Korean breakfast was really nicer not fancy but real local food. Just that the stuff can't speak English. I helped a French tourist to communicate with the staff coz she can't speak Korean. Overall, it is a nice experience and I will book this place again.
Upon reaching the Guesthouse, we found that the Guesthouse we booked is no longer Sophia Guesthouse. The entrance signboard is now "BUKCHON Sosunjae Guest House". We already felt cheated because we studied about Sophia's review online before the trip, not this. Anyway we were led into the guesthouse by a stern looking man, could be the house keeper. First 3 nights, we stayed in a small room near the entrance with FLOODED bathroom (like a swimming pool) and noisy local guests in the other rooms. There were no hangers or hooks, no simple waredrobe to hang our clothes despite booking 7 nights stay and it was raining badly the first few days. After the third night, we were told that we can change to a bigger room (that was because all of the noisy guests have moved out). The room was bigger, toilet was not flooded but still no hanger no place to hang even 1 or 2 drenched T-shirts. We requested for hangers and was given ONE (1) miserable hanger. Their breakfast is a FIXED time at 8am. The first morning, the house keeper knocked on our door continuously to wake us for breakfast. It feels like army training that we need to abide to their strict rules during our vacation. The house keeper even complaint to the "Boss" that we did not wake up on time for breakfast. Subsequently we rejected their breakfast. We are there for a relaxing vacation. They have no flexibility at all. We understand that it is a traditional place but there should be some tiny details to make a foreigner's stay much comfortable. We felt that they treated us like some alien foreigner and treated the local guests very nicely. Korea is a nice country but the Hanok experience is bad and we will rather stay in an apartment during the next visit.
Good for stay and nice experience of korean style living ”
It was an adorable tradition korean house, very close to kyeongbokgoon and samcheongdong. The host I met there was very nice though he can speak little English, but no problem for simply communication. They provided very delicious korean style breakfast, worth trying!!
Superb host and good location”
Love this place and definitely going back! The host Sophia speaks many languages and extremely helpful! Note that this is a very old bldg (over a century!) so don't expect modern facilities, but that is the beauty of it! The location is fantastic and tourist attractions and the cultural village are all within walking distance. See if you could spot the few locations where Goblin was shot!
A very nice Hanok experience”
This is a very old Hanok house so definitely suitable for those who are looking for a Korean homestay experience. The place is very near to subway station Anguk (5m walk), Gyeongbok gung, Changdeok gung ang Bukchon Hanok Village can be reached within 20 min walk. Price wise, I found it pretty attractive compared to other Hanok guesthouses. Sophia and her mother are very friendly and helpful. Sophia'mom was very kind in preparing the breakfast and sharing with us about Korean weather. There is luggage storage facilities if you want to leave your luggages at the guesthouse before check-in/after check-out. The only limitation is that the bathroom is outside and shared thus if you are visiting Seoul in mid/late winter, it will be a little bit inconvenient, especially when your body is not used to cold weather. Overall, it was a very pleasant time staying here. I will definitely recommend this place to my friends who would like to try Hanok experience.
Wish I could stay longer”
The location is ideal, close to top sightseeing sites and very conviniently located for the bus to/from the airport (10 min walk). Sophia and her mother are adorable, warm and welcoming. The experience of staying in a hanok makes the trip to Seoul even more memorable and this one has a familiar sense added to it. The facilities are good and comfortable. I had a very enjoyable stay, I just wish I could have stayed longer. Highly recommended.
