“Booked the superior family room for 10 nights on Nov 2025”
This was my first time staying at a Sotetsu hotel in Seoul, having previously stayed only at their properties in Japan. The overall impression was quite different from Japan, which was surprising given that this hotel only opened on 15 February 2018. However, there were several points noticed during our stay from 17 to 26 November 2025. 1) The check-in and check-out are both done via kiosks, with staff assisting guests as needed. While this system is fast and efficient, it reduces the sense of personal welcome that one would usually expect from a hotel. It might be better to handle arrivals at the counter for a warmer welcome, and use the kiosks mainly for check-out. 2) At check-in, we were given only 2 room key cards for 3 guests, which seemed to assume that all three guests would always move together and return to the hotel at the same time. We received an additional card only after specifically requesting it on a later day. It would be more convenient if 3 key cards could be provided automatically when there are 3 registered occupants. 3) It would be helpful to increase the seating capacity at BST Café (B1), which currently has around 150 seats, especially considering that the hotel has 428 rooms. Melo Café also felt quite small for the number of guests. We were not informed that reservations were required for the buffet lunch, even as in-house guests. Although there are many dining options around the hotel within walking distance, some days were extremely cold and we would have preferred to have lunch inside the hotel before heading out. 4) The multi-gate entrance security system is a good safety feature, but in winter it creates a strong wind tunnel effect when opening the two sets of doors. During our stay, night time temperatures dropped to around 0 degrees, and the strong gusts of cold wind at the entrance made it quite uncomfortable to enter and exit. 5) The 25 m² room layout seemed to have some wasted space due to the long, narrow bench and long table along the side. This design reduced the open area for placing suitcases and limited walking space. A better layout might be to place a long sofa in the corner with a smaller table mounted horizontally on the wall, which could free up more space for guests to walk and open their luggage comfortably. 6) Although the hotel only opened in 2018, our room was already showing noticeable signs of wear and tear. The maintenance level felt below expectations for a 4-star hotel. The top of the bed frame had visible stains, and the closet frame had cracks and patch marks on the door. The refrigerator was not cold enough and did not properly chill or freeze items. The interiors, including some walls and parts of the ceiling, looked somewhat dirty and lacked the elegance expected of a 4-star property. 7) During the stay, I accidentally dropped a bottle of eye drop under the bed. I had assumed that housekeeping would clean under the bed and find the bottle, but it remained there, indicating that the area under the bed was not vacuumed or swept. Housekeeping mainly seemed to focus on changing the bed linens. In addition, the shower gel bottle was not checked and refilled during housekeeping; we had to call and request a refill immediately. It would be good if housekeeping could routinely check and top up all bathroom amenities, especially for rooms with multiple occupants and particularly after the first few days of stay. 8) The reception and housekeeping staff generally had limited English proficiency, which made it difficult to resolve some issues due to the language barrier. Questions about the toilet not functioning properly for washing, taxi driver etiquette and problems encountered, and room air-conditioning issues were not fully understood. It would be greatly appreciated if more staff could communicate in English to better support international guests, not only Japanese guests.
