Basic but OK”
Good as a base, but not great... There's no frills and the hotel is definitely generally in need of some TLC. The staff are friendly and helpful though and the location is great - 20 minutes walk from Princes Street
Best price-location. Forget about bad reviews.”
I've been there with my girlfriend 5 days and the place was perfect. The owner was super nice, he fulfilled all my request and solved the problems straight away. The room was clean, coffee and tea included. Forget about the bad reviews, this place is perfect and very well connected with the centre of Edinburgh (literally 10 mins by bus). Also, for all those people who think that the cleaner was "rude": she wasn't and she's not, she just looks like because she doesn't speak English and she get really embarrassed. So forget about the "rude". More than recommended especially for the price!!
One night stay for Rugby international ”
We were just looking for budget accommodation for one night to go to the Rugby international. Accommodation dated but clean and bed comfortable and lady at reception very friendly so great for our use. Close to Stockbridge area with lots of nice restaurants and bars &20 minutes took us to George st.
recommend this for budget stays!! ”
we paid £78 for two nights of staying, which is a good deal. It's an olddd house, not like those modern hostels but the interior was interesting and we enjoyed the atmosphere, we always love a bit of vintage. Our room is small but with tv and large bed, also a big window right to the main street, this makes us feel secure. We had comfortable sleep there. Good thing is that they provide you with a hairdryer, shampoo, towels, kettle, cups, and also a snack and some coffee. The location is more residential but walking distance to central, also to Dean village which is a good place to visit some waterfall and green! There are many charity shops and good cafe in that area. Overall, I would recommend this guest house for a short stay, as they provide basically every essential stuff for travelling, cosy rooms!
Comfortable and clean”
Stayed for only one night, but was a good place to have a restful night's sleep
Requested for a family room but what they gave my brother was just double room which is quite small to be honest. The staff who attended us was not as accomodating. Steep floors and there was no lift.
St Bernards Guest House is absolutely fantastic. The staff are fantastic, and really helped us out in terms of offering us brilliant rates that you simply cannot get anywhere in Edinburgh at this time of year, as well as, giving us the best rooms available - despite us having not booked them. It's a very beautiful location which is literally within walking distance of several stores including Waitrose, and a few smaller local stores such as Coop and Sainsburys. In addition, it's also a short walk away from the city centre. We cannot recommend this place enough, and would definitely return. Thank you very much!
Excellent value for money with good bus links around city”
Room and facilities better than expected for price paid and location. Very easy to find and walking distant to main city centre with bus links to other areas of city very nearby. Decor only let down with patches on the walls. Plants of storage, space, and comfort. Would go again for similar price.
Classy, Comfortable Rooms”
I was genuinely surprised at the room- I wish we had stayed here longer. Modern and well outfitted, your money goes far. It is a little bit of a hike to the city center, though by no means impossible. The extra fee you pay for wifi may have been a bit much- I had to leave my room to stand by the router in the corridor to get decent reception. Still, considering that I was here primarily for the room, I was very impressed.
Hotel close to the center: clean but small room”
We liked our stay at st. Bernards. It's situated within 15-20 minutes walking to the city centre or a few minutes by bus. Room was small but had everything; closet, nightstand, coffe and tea making, space for your bags. Bathroom was clean, very nice rainshower. The only thing is that you had to pay 3GBP/day for the wifi
rude staff and receptionist”
Awful.Attitude of staff were indeed bad and rude. She gave warning to us just because we didn't switch off the bathroom light when we go out. Her attitude was as changeable as weather. If she happy, she greet you, however if she doesn't, she will complain you on your stay. Yes, is she complained you. Supposingly room service will get our plate returned however that receptionist lady reprimanded us for not being washing and sending down the plates once we have finished using it. Overall, the hotel is small, old and dirty. I will never ever recommend my friend to stay in this hotel.
Very comfortable, clean rooms. Friendly service.”
My room was very large and extremely clean. It was very warm which was lovely after a long trip in cold, rainy weather. The bed was very comfortable, ensuring I slept well. The ensuite was very clean and the shower was beautiful.
cosy room with a weird smell”
there was a weird smell in the room, possibly wood or oak that hung in the air. other than that we had no qualms, everything else was quaint and perfect. very worth the price. 5-10 min walk to nearby shops and the city centre.
Good location and good price”
The location of the hotel is great. It is in Stockbridge area nearby bus stop and supermarket. The room carpret is a bit dusty but it is okay for a short stay with good price. Got the central heating in room which is great for cold weather.
Cheap and basic”
I booked St Bernard’s Guest House because it was cheap, the reviews were not all good, but most of the complaints were about parking. I decided to leave my car on the outskirts of Edinburgh and use busses and taxis. I had very little interaction with staff, but they were helpful. The room was small but clean with a working TV and tea/coffee making facilities., the bed was soft and comfortable, the towels were a little worn and the window rattled in the high winds (Storm Ali). If I had expected luxury I would have been disappointed, but I paid cheap, expected cheap and got cheap.
We booked online and stated that we would be checking in late, the hotel website said 24 hour reception. Upon arriving to the hotel though, we were charged 10£ for late check in. Also, the WiFi didn’t work our entire stay. The location and room was nice however.
The location is central. Quiet place. Bit old . Staff, especially Denis is so helpful.
Clean beautiful room, amazing staff!”
Room was very clean, nicely decorated, staff was very helpful and friendly
Cute area, older style property that is value for money”
Very reasonably priced. Simple older style accommodation. Street parking free on the street over the weekend.
Family of 4 booked 2 "en suite" rooms for high price, got 2 tiny rooms of 7 m2 75 sq ft, not very clean, exhausted mattress and decoration, basement room had bad smell. Staff not very pleasant. Very noisy you can hear wc mills from other rooms during the night, but advertised 3 stars on the site with nice photos ??? Horrible experience, I don't understand how people can give a good rating, unles they are fake.
