Great Hotel”
After days of searching for the hotel which will either "make or break" our Hong Kong Trip, we finally decided to stay at Stanford Hotel. Choosing Stanford Hotel definitely made our 1st trip to Hong Kong so pleasant. When we got there, check-in was quite simple and fast. When we got to our room, we were happy with it. It was clean and spacious compared to the other hotels that we searched through the internet. The bed was big and comfy and when put together can even accommodate 3 persons. There was a mini-refrigerator and plasma tv in our room. The bathroom was clean and had hot and cold water faucet and bathtub. There were 3 towels for each guest-one small (face towel), one medium and one large (bath towel). There was also complimentary shower cap, toilet paper and shampoo/soap. Unlike other hotel reviews, our bathtub was working properly and did not clog at all during our entire stay. On our 1st day/night at Stanford, we were already pleased with the hotel. The next day, we were even more pleased as we were surprised that they clean-up/make-up the room every day! They replace your towels with new ones(Yes, all three) and supply you with new toilet papers. We were so pleased with our decision to stay at Stanford. We didn’t even spend a big fortune to be comfortable in our hotel room! The location was great also! Nearby the hotel are restaurants (noth expensive and cheap) and boutiques. There is also a 7/11 near the hotel. MTR is relatively near. It is a 5 minute walk from the hotel. You won’t actually feel that it is a 5 minute walk since you’ll be entertained with all the shops you will pass by. Believe me, it was a very good stay at Stanford Hotel. Will definitely stay at this hotel when I go back to Hong Kong!
Value for money hotel. Great location.”
8 of us stayed for 4 nights at Stanford Hotel from Sep 3 - 7, 2015. Check-in was swift and we all received an upgrade to the deluxe rooms. Our room on the 9th floor was newly renovated and exceeded our expectations for what we'd paid for. It was very modern and came with a good size bathroom (this isn't a given in most Hong Kong hotels). There was a welcome fruit platter, complimentary mineral water and free wifi in the room. Mattress was very firm (which we liked) and pillows were big and fluffy. Sheets and towels were clean and new. We appreciate the good quality Q-Tips, Cotton Squares and toothbrushes which were provided. The mini fridge was empty so you can stock it with your own drinks and snacks. Even though the hotel was located in one of the busiest stretch in Mong Kok, we didn't hear any noise as the windows were very well insulated. On our last night at the hotel, we were pleasantly surprised to received some dark and white chocolate covered peanuts. All the staff we encountered at the hotel were very pleasant and a couple of them were exceeding helpful. A special shout-out to Otto the doorman who gave us good tips on where to find good Cantonese Dim Sum and Congee. Our house-keeping lady was also very sweet but I didn't manage to catch her name. There are lots of shopping and eateries next to the hotel. Check out the night market, 30-40 shops selling genuine name brand sneakers and sportswear from Nike, Adidas, New Balance, Under Armor etc. A new fancy mall "MOKO" is about 600M from the hotel and you can find international name brands boutiques such as Dior, Max Mara, Sunglass Hut. This mall is also linked to Mongkok East Station where you can take the MTR into ShenZhen. Also noteworthy is the "Flower Street" and quaint bird park all within 500M from the hotel. Overall, great stay. We'd like to stay there again when we're in Hong Kong again
A Quiet Gem in Mongkok, Hong Kong.”
I travel on business very often, so a hotel that is well located, clean, with good service and staff, is clean and well organized is very important. The standard rooms at the Stanford are small, as are most reasonably priced hotels in Hong Kong, but very clean, comfortable, well arranged (for the size) and has a full sized bathroom w/shower that makes for a very comfortable stay. For the price you'll find it hard to beat anywhere in Hong Kong. Tons of great restaurants within a minute or so walk, and for the diehards that need comfort food, McDonalds is just around the corner. I have a number of hotels I use when I go to Hong Kong, but The Stanford, which I stayed at for the first time this April, just moved to the top of my preferred list.
Excellent Hotel”
Complimentary upgrade to Premium room was most appreciated. Asst. Mgr Kevin and his Front Desk team (in particular Otto, Bosco, Andreas) deserve to be commended for their excellent service and attention to details, not to forget that sweet chambermaid who was on duty throughout our 6-day stay at the Stanford. Location and proximity of hotel to eateries, shopping and public transportation (MTR requires a slightly longer walk) were added advantages to this hotel. I was thrilled to find out that mini bus no. 12-S (bus stop at Kwong Wa Road behind the hotel) took us directly to Moko Mall and Olympian City (where dim sum shop Tim Ho Wan has been relocated). Personally, I prefer Dim Dim Sum Dim Sum which is located on Ground Floor, 112 Tung Choi Street (short distance away from hotel). On the whole the room upgrade to newly renovated Premium category made our stay at the hotel a most memorable one. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone planning a stay in Mongkok area, and will definitely book this hotel again on my next trip to Hong Kong.
Great hotel to stay in”
I traveled to Hong Kong for an academic conference and was staying at Stanford Hotel. It’s a really beautiful place, very clean with very friendly staff. The room was a bit small space-wise, but what isn’t in Hong Kong ? The shower and bathroom was great, and the view was spectacular. There was a bit of a language barrier with the staff, but they speak English well enough to conversate. The hotel is situated in Mong Kok, the central of a buzzing business district. The MTR is just around the corner, buses are everywhere and the hotel even offers a shuttle service. The hotel is surrounded by multiple eateries. Overall, it’s a great place to stay !
Luvly & Great Hotel ”
many thanks to stanford hotel mongkok management team!! we really enjoyed our stayed at your hotel. i got nothing to complaint bout stanford hotel, kudos to the management team with their service! superb convenient the location of the hotel with quite reasonable room rate, but if lower is much better haha!! thanks & i am sure will b back to stanford hotel mongkok! the only & best choice of hongkong hotel around mongkok ares!! arigato!
A big plus for location”
It’s not budget price, but it’s right in the heart of Mongkok, with the colourful Ladies Market at your door. It’s a good place to find cheap bargains for your mum or niece. Just don’t arrive here on the MRT with lots of luggage, or you’ll be struggling through crowds of shoppers. I’ve stayed at the Stanford before and the breakfast is well above average. For my second visit I skipped breakfast and chose one of the local cheap restaurants. Be warned that Mongkok is not like Tsimshatsui further south, so you won’t find many people who speak English. We had trouble ordering food and soon wished we had taken the hotel breakfast. The staff here are friendly, but a little brief in the usual Hong Kong manner. You can leave your luggage locked up if you have a late flight, plus they will order an airport taxi for you. The rooms are fine for the price: comfy beds and good clean bathrooms. We arrived in the low season and were given a free upgrade to a deluxe room. If only more hotels were so kind. Overall the Stanford would suit young couples who are tired of hostels, or retired couples who don’t expect pampering. I would happily come back.
Better than a 4 Star Hotel”
i personally have stayed at a 4 & 5 star hotels in hong kong, but this 3 star hotel is much better than the 4 star hotel. the service staff are professional. i was surprised that their towels are so soft and white. we were pleasantly surprised with the welcome fruit basket. this is an item even the 5 star hotels have stopped providing let alone the goodbye chocolates. the hotel is also walking distance to the ladies market, flower market and the mong kok kcr - we walked everywhere. i will surely stay at the stanford when i visit hong kong again.
Stanford Hotel from the viewpoint of a Dundonian.”
The Stanford Hotel is very central. The buses and taxis are practically outside your door. The markets and shops are just a street away and the trains a mere 5 minute walk away. You have to remember though if and when you jump into a taxi tell the driver its the Mong Kok Stanford Hotel as there are several other Stanfords in Hong Kong.
Best location”
The hotel's location is very convenient. There are nearby restaurants that serve authentic cantonese cuisine. The hotel staff are also very helpful with inquireis and requests. That is why I have always stayed in this hotel whenever I'm in Hong Kong. Thank you Stanford Hotel Mongkok,
Good hotel in Mongkok”
Check in was a bit slow, but still of reasonable waiting time. Hotel staffs are quite polite. Hotel room is small but clean with comfortable shower. Only managed to find 2 power points in the room, will advise to bring a multipin plug. Light is a bit dim, but not of an issue. Service was quick (my toilet light blew and they came within minutes after I called). There was also an incident where the next door Chinese were so noisy that I had to call the staff to assist to advise them as I can't sleep, the staff went to their unit in no time and advised them to lower down their volume. Staffs are able to speak simple English. There are also days where I went back to my room and see that there's fruits and some chocolate-nut snack, sweet gesture from the hotel. Location is very good, few streets to Mongkok MTR. Only 1 street away from Fa Yuen street. The supermarket parknshop is also very near, can ask the staff for advise. I didn't try the hotel food as there are plenty of food on the streets near the hotel. Will definitely recommend this hotel to my friends and family, will come back for my future Hong Kong trip.
Splendid Stanford”
Stanford Hotel offers a great value for money, comfortable stay in a central location. Situated centrally in Mongkok, you are within 20 minutes to hotspots such as Tsim Sha Tsui and 40 minutes to New Territories, Stanford is ideal for both business travellers and for those on holiday. Step outside the hotel and you are within walking distant to local shops and malls. Shops don't close till midnight and you will encounter endless shopping opportunities. Surrounded by 7 Eleven's where you can top up your octopus card and get snacks, you couldn't be in a more convenient place. Find yourself walking through streets filled with endless food choices from traditional rice pot dishes to Japanese cuisines. There is a local theatre/cinema which offers both HK movies and Western movies. A great venue for passing time should you want to watch any of latest movies. The hotel itself has both a cafe which offers a great breakfast and lunch buffet for a good price and a restaurant which offers traditional dim sum. These are situated on levels B1 and B2 respectively. I would definitely recommend Stanford for its convenient location and value for money.
Great location but small rooms”
stanford is nearer to mongkok east mtr rather than mongkok mtr. some may be wondering how far is it from hotel to mongkok mtr, well, you gotta pass by shortcuts in ladies street and walk a bit of distance before you can reach. probably take you about 8-10 mins. still convenient though if you know the road. explore at night! okay, room like wise, need not say, it's small. i think most hk's hotel rooms are small, so can't complain. but no worry, it's still sufficient to take in 2 persons and luggages. in fact, i love this cozy place, cos it's ultimately still in mongkok, the eat and shop paradise!!!! service wise i would give a thumbs up! very nice and patient.
Awesome location and service”
My stay in this hotel was pleasant. The check in process was fast and no hassle, the service was great, they even gave us complimentary fruits and peanut cookies, unlike the other 3 stars hotels that we stay in HK previously. In fact the staff here is excellent, from the housekeeping staff that greet me good morning daily during my stay, to the nice and helpful concierge staff namely Mr Otto. he is worth mentioning here as his service and public relation is spectacular. another thing that i love about this hotel is the location, it is just a minute away from the infamous ladies market, and walking distance to mongkok station. not only that, theres plethora of shops nearby for you to find foods and varieties of items. if you love to explore hong kong on your own, this hotel has one of the best and convenient location. the room is neat and clean although its quiet small, but bear in mind that most of the hotels in hong kong are indeed small. overall i would say the hotel is worth it and I totally enjoy my stay there.
Clean rooms; very good value”
The rooms in the Stanford are a very good size compared to other similar hotels. The rooms are very clean, and have a big bathroom and shower. I've stayed in a dozen hotels in Hong Kong, and for the price/stars of this hotel, it's very nice. My personal main con of the Stanford is that there is no self-service laundry room. The hotel's laundry service is expensive (to me). Also, the hotel charges for leaving bags with them overnight; only HK$5 per bag, but it's the principle of the thing. Very nice location. Many restaurants and shops nearby, also very close to the Ladie's Market, and Electronics & Sporting Goods streets. It's halfway between (10 min walk) the Yau Ma Tei & Mongkok MTR.
Good to stay”
I was in Hong Kong to take part in Fair and chose to stay with Stanford Hotel again because of my nice experience last year. This Year I go myself a standard room like last time and it’s still nice. Everything in the room is in right order you would want. Especially love their bed which gives a firm support and it brings me to a new height of freshness in next morning. Service, impeccable is all that I can describe. The lady at the front desk gave me a swift check-in and the other minute I was in my cosy room. Everything exceeds my expectation. Will stay again!!
Misty City”
Stanford Hotel was recommended to me by a previous Hong Kong resident, as being reasonable in price and location. I wasn't disappointed, although a bit of a problem with non English speaking taxi driver, after which I realised there were 2 Stanford Hotels in HK and he was asking 'which one?' Room was very clean and comfortable and staff helpful with Internet and taxi ordering services, plus directions. Some good inexpensive restaurants nearby and I enjoyed the food at a Vietnamese place over the road and also an excellent 'youtiao' served about 50 yards down the road. 2 lifts helped going up and down 24 floors and although I hadn't realised I was going to be staying in Kowloon rather than HK I wasn't disappointed. The main thoroughfare'Nathan Road' was an easy walk through the crowds, for bus and Underground service to the harbour area, where enjoyed the light show and music by the bay at 8.00 pm.
Great location!”
I've been to Hong Kong several times but this the first time i stayed at Mongkok.. As it is a popular tourist spot, hotels ard the area mainly offer steep rates.. I chose Standford Hotel as i was attracted to the considerably low rate. I wasn't expecting alot from the hotel but I was overall more than satisfied with everything.. Hotel check-in was fast and efficient... Rooms were small but clean and they offer free wifi.. Opposite is a nice local dessert shop that closes at 2.30am.. Conveniently located near MTR... Short walk to Ladies Market, Sneakers Street and Langham Place mall... 24-hour convenience stores are everywhere nearby. There's also an Indian restaurant nearby that serves Halal food.. For such great service and convenience, i would definately stick to this hotel for my future trips to HK.
My Stay @Stanford Hotel last end of Jan 2010”
A delightful stay I had over the span of 3 nights at Stanford Hotel, 118 Soy Street, Kowloon, Hong Kong. Reasonably priced per night and the convenience we had with shopping and food. Especially with getting supper meals was just a few steps away. Sad to say I might have put on a few pounds but most probably worth the stay. Also located near the late night shopping area till 12midnight No issues with public transportation.
Great location and food”
this is my forth time staying at stanford and found out that has renovated its reception but not their rooms. nothing much has changed since my last visit in june 2011. the location of the hotel is great, which compensate for its small room (anyway you will be out most of the time). near to mongkok mtr station, ladies market, fa yuen street and langham place shopping mall. there are a lot of eateries near the hotel. just next to it, there is a forever crowded restaurant selling claypot rice and other local dishes. at the back of the hotel, you are able to try a famous dim sum restaurant that is located one street away. the restaurant in the hotel also serves delicious dim sum. generally for the price, it is considered value for money. rooms are clean and friendly staff. every morning, you will never miss the greeting from the chambermaid and staff. it provides shuttle service to kwonloon airport express and to china ferry terminal at tsim sha tsui. catching a flight back or taking a ferry to macau with no hassle. will i stay at stanford again? definitely!
