Hospitality itself at Stanhope
Efficient staff, excellent breakfast spread, beautiful reception area with garden in middle of hotel
Main door was nondescript, but wait till you see the reception and garden, wow! Very English in the center of Brussels. Friendly reception gave us two single rooms instead of 1 twin room, well appreciated since am travelling with an adult son. Our other double room was even upgraded to a suite, a truly nice gesture for my other son and wife. The rooms furnishings need a bit of upgrading though but still retain the ambiance. The beds were comfortable and conducive to good sleep. And where else can you get a bowl of fruits near the lifts for everybody to help themselves. Thats a first during our monthlong travel around Europe. The metro was also close by but the shops and restaurants around close very early so you have to walk a fair bit to go to dinner. Overall a very pleasant stay and commendable to friends and family.

Great Place to Stay in Brussels
Location, beautiful rooms, helpfull staff
I was lucky to get an upgrade, but I'm sure I'd be pleased with the hotel anyway. The location is superb, close to the Royal Palace and major museums. The metro is nearby, if you can find your way, which may be an issue the first time. The room where I was staying, was large - 2 floors and stairs. It looked very nice, and all the furniture and appliances were in good condition, incl. the bathroom. I had some trouble adjusting the air-con for cooler temperatures, though, but no big deal.

Good but not excellent like the reviews.
Good location, historical and aristocratic feel and luxury bathroom, but no free wifi.
There is no free wifi as advertised on agoda (the free wifi is only for an hour). You need to pay 6 euro plus for 24 hours use. They do provide a desktop for the guests at the main lobby but that is so inconvenient. The location is 10-15 minutes walk from the main train station but 15-20 minutes walk from the main tourist attractions (but not easy to find). More suited for people who want to be away from the crowds yet within walking distance to the tourist attractions. Not suitable for people who want to be within the action or stay out late at night in the city. The lobby and dining areas look grand but the room smaller than the picture and not as luxury as compared to Hilton, Sofitel, Intercontinental or other five stars hotel that I have stayed before. They do not provide those toiletries which one can usually expect from five stars hotels such as toothpaste and toothbrush, cotton buds and pads, and so on. They only provide shower gel and shampoo (yes, not even conditioner). They also do not provide free coffee, tea or bottle water (which I will even expect from 2-3 stars hotels). The staff are professional but not really friendly. It is the first 5 stars hotel in Brussels so will provide a historical and aristocratic feel while staying there but for the same money, I will prefer to pay for Marriott or Le Meridien (more centralized location) and as a chain hotel will provide a certain level of service and goods.

Below par
Interesting room being on split level but nothing special.
It was adequate but adequate in a 3* sense. I expect basics like WiFi to be included in a 400 euro a night 5* hotel. Room was a little tired and paint chipped. Black marks on the ceiling and rather dreary view. Booked a double room but had 2 single beads pulled together. I requested Tea making facilities which arrived promptly but were not replenished on the second day. Had to pop down to reception twice to request Tea bags and glasses which only secured by waiting the 3rd time and taking them up personally. Dirty plate and glasses were removed by the cleaning staff as you would expect and then left in the corridor for 24 hours. Most of the staff were friendly and helpfull though. Overall the stay was ok but far below the standard that you would expect from a 5* Hotel.

Excellent
Staff were very helpful - within walking distance of DG-Research and Innovation for which the trip was made and close to metro (Troon)
Good value for money, but perhaps this was due to discounts offered to Agoda. Stay was very pleasant and room temperature was very nice. Room was reasonably spacious.

Beautiful hidden hotel
design, decor, facilities, cleanliness
the hotel was more than what i expected, its a 5 star hotel but it has a simple cover. i booked a single room for 2 nights, but the room i stay is bigger than regular single rooms in other hotels. the room is beautiful, cozy, clean, comfortable. there are many channels in french, english,.. to choose on tv. the only thing i dont like about this hotel is they dont have free wifi internet, so if you want to use it, u have to pay about 10 euros for 24 hours, but they also have a computer in the lobby from which you can access internet. the hotel location is also good, just 5 mins from tron metro station, or if you dont want to take a metro you can walk to places like grand place in about 15 mins, brussels is not so big!
