Labour week Vacation in Sabang ”
My son and I went to Puerto Galera over the labour week for vacation of about 4 days and we stayed at Steps Garden Resort. I must say that we both enjoyed our stay there. Our room was really nice, very up to date, new and has complete amenities. Being a city girl, I found our room more than expected. Although our room is fronting a local basketball court, it was ok for us. The pool area is also nice. We got to swim one time and had our dinner there. The staff is very courteous and professional. They were all friendly and very helpful with our needs. We also had the chance to try their food in their Tamarind Restaurant. Although we had to wait for about 50 minutes, we definitely loved the food especially the grilled chops. To assure that you get a table, you should reserve ahead because they are usually jampacked. The staff in the restaurant were also attentive and they have great service. The hotel also has reliable contacts if you want to have an island hopping or land tour.
This place is a true gem. My family and I have absolutely nothing but great things to say about our stay at Steps Garden Resort. Not only are the rooms exquisitely clean, but the grounds are beautiful with a wide variety of flowers absolutely everywhere. Truly stunning. Our room had a great view of the ocean as well. The restaurant on the property was great serving local and western cuisine and also very accommodating when it came to dietary restrictions. The pool was the ideal place to relax at the end of the day. The biggest thing that stood out to us was the friendly and hospitable nature of every staff member we encountered. It’s very obvious that from ownership all the way down the line, Steps Garden is cared for with a great deal of pride and attention to detail. Steps Garden is the place to stay in Sabang.
A Gem in Puerto Galera”
This resort indeed have the best staff. We arrived at the resort before check-in time but room's available so we're allowed to check in early which was nice because we had time to rest before the tour. The room was very neat and homey. The ambiance was very peaceful and relaxing. Also very thankful for the front desk manager, Miss Shirley for accommodating all my queries and resquests during our short stay. Spent the birthday of my boyfriend there and Miss Shirley was very happy to help me buy a cake for him even in a short notice. Boyfriend was so suprised in the morning when Miss Shirley and the staff went to our room with the cake to greet him a happy birthday. We had a great stay and will definitely reccommend this resort if you want to have a quick getaway to Puerto Galera. :)
Big rooms in a good location”
We enjoyed our time at Steps Garden Resort, and it was very good value for money. The beds were comfortable and the rooms had a nice balcony. The rooms were well equipped with hair dryer, kettle, toiletries and a safe. The only downside was that the WiFi was not very good. Perhaps due to the direction our rooms were facing, it was quite noisy early in the morning due to the dogs and cockerels. Although breakfast is not included, the menu is very reasonable and there is a wide variety. A note to make is the rooms are all uphill and some of the steps can be rather steep, so some may struggle to walk up but the staff are very helpful with carrying the luggage.
Nice resort, great value, and excellent staff.”
We had a pleasurable stay at the Steps Garden Resort. The resort is properly named, as there are many steps, but the gardens are very beautiful and we didn't mind the climb since the view from our room was wonderful. Access to the resort is not easy, since it takes about 25 minutes by tricycle on rough roads under construction. A word of advice, dont pay more than 150 pesos for the tricycle ride to the resort. I got charged 250 pesos and you will have to walk a little ways since the tricycle can't take you right to the resort. But once you get there, its a very nice place. I've been to Santorini Greece, so the comparisons are not even close, so don't expect it. However, the staff is Excellent! Very friendly and helpful. We only ate breakfast there, and is was ok, but a little pricey. The best part was the pool area, and we had the pool all to ourselves. Very romantic! But if you want a nice beach, stay near White Beach. Overall, I'd recommend. Great value during rainy saeson.
Quaint and clean resort in Sabang Beach”
We enjoyed staying at Steps and Garden Resort. It's in a great location in Sabang Beach, and I really appreciate that they try to maintain it and keep it clean. I think it's one of the nicest looking hotels in the area. Their restaurant serves good food and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
Amazing hotel in a blissful island”
Loved the property for every aspect of our stay. We booked a Junior Suite Room and it was wonderful. In room facilities were apt and the view was worth it. With a partial ocean view and small courtyard with relaxed seating, it was a perfect setting for relaxing and enjoying beautiful view. The staff was extremely courteous and was helpful for any requirement. Though the room did not have a tea/coffee maker, hotel was forthcoming to facilitate one when required. Though one may complain for the number of steps to climb to reach the room, as the hotel is not on a main road. But for the view and fantastic environment, after the climb you'd feel even more relaxed to be at Steps Garden.
Best place for relaxation”
Before we checked in last Nov. 13, 2017, I asked Ms. Shirley of the reception if we could have an early check in because we will arrive at Sabang at around 8 AM, and since there were guests in the room we will stay at, they said they couldn't assure the early check in but they allowed us to leave our things and accommodated us as soon as we arrived at the resort so we can proceed to our activities for the day. Overall, the staff are super nice and the room we booked had a wonderful view of Sabang Beach. This place is also near restaurants and bars around Sabang. A much recommended place! A huge thank you to Ms. Shirley for being so kind to us!
WIFI didn't work, power went out several times, roads going to Sabang have 100,000 POTHOLES!!”
Overall this is a pretty good resort with a nice pool and nice location. The aircon worked well, the TV was modern and could allow HDMI & USB connections which was a PLUS and the refrigerator was a good size. PROBLEMS: The WIFI didn't work at all for 3 days/3 nights. I had to go to the town to buy pocket WIFI which was expensive. Also, the power went out at the resort 2-3 times per days, often for 30 minutes or more each time, once for over an hour. The resort does have a power generator of some kind, but there were times when the power was out for over an hour. The resort did give us a free breakfast on the last day which didn't excuse the above problems, but it was a nice gesture. There were several PROBLEMS WITH THE AREA of SABANG, which has nothing to do with the resort. There are no longer any ferries going to/from Sabang. There were a limited number of ferries going to/from Muelle and Balatero. The roads going from the town center to Sabang are the ABSOLUTE WORST!!
The Greece of Puerto Galera”
The hotel was beautiful, private and as my friends and I mentioned, ‘very Santorini’. We adored that the suite we had was clean and had everything we needed. It isn’t like normal resorts where you sense the wear and tear. This one had minimal issues if any, and it was comfortable and you never felt as though there were bad spirits lurking about. We had the top floor, which as a warning !! This resort has Multiple Steps. I’m talking a complete hilltop of stairs, which - while amazing exercise - is also exhausting when you need to go up and down from lunch and activities. We didn’t know our room would be from the second to the top. We had an Amazing view, and a lot of privacy. And even our own private deck! But the stairs were a pain like nothing else, I must admit. The food was great and had large servings. Service was great too, especially the cold towels provided on check in. However, the glass door to our suite didn’t have a curtain so it felt unsafe. Otherwise, would go back, thanks
Good location, beautiful garden with beach view”
The staffs were nice! And the view of the garden was very beautiful. It has a pool which was very clean!!!The staff served us with some cold drinks,it was delicious ~ Only 5 minutes to Sabang beach by foot,so many diving spots here, very convenient! There was hot water in the hotel. But the aircon was not so good.....the electricity here was not steady at all,it stopped 4 or 5 times at night, the AC wasn’t cooling AT ALL!!!! It was superrrr hot inside the room! Anyway,it is a good hotel despite the not cooling AC. And we rent the Motorcycle 1day for 500p includes the free gas (no need to full the gas when u return) and rode around the mountain, which was super nice!
Bad WiFi, great location.”
WiFi was terrible - constant disconnects, speed maybe 3/10, requires repeated logins with individual code given by reception. Excellent location - 85 steps from front of property to the dive shop. Although it’s nothing BUT steps once you’re on the property - no elevator, about 250 steps uphill going from front of property to the room. They have a restaurant (Tamarind) off-property with fast WiFi and EXCELLENT spicy spareribs. Maid service was fantastic - they found a lost airline ticket (I didn’t need it anymore but they had no way of knowing that) and put it in the light switch box so I would be sure to see it. If I had needed it it would have been a lifesaver. Staff is very friendly, constant “hello”. The hotel specialty nachos really aren’t good though - stale chips with ground beef on top. Mediocre at best. Maybe 5 minutes walking time from nightlife. Great swimming pool. The only real con is the slow, crappy WiFi.
Over rated place ”
My overall score for this resort would be 5.0. The landscape and design of the garden is great but its not a place for people who aren't keen into taking (estimated) 20 to 30 steps upstairs towards their room. To be honest, I'm not a fan of their customer service nor their useless wifi connection. To start off, the staff assigned in the receiving area seems to be more friendly towards the foreigners than Filipinos because of the high pitched jolly tone of how they greet them, while us never received that kind of welcome. A staff did managed to get our luggage to carry upstairs towards our room and he also gave us an electronic kettle, and he seemed not jolly at all. Its also annoying as to why the resort doesnt provide a complimentary bottled water to their customers. How funny is that? You have to pay for it. They dont also value the urgency or need to resolve an issue when we reported to the front desk the problem with their wifi connection. The staff even had a very annoying question asking"wala po ba kayo data?" ("Dont you have a mobile data?") which was very insensitive to ask. We walked all the way from the top, down to the front desk to ask for help and that's how you deal with it? The top room doesnt even have an intercom to call the front desk which is difficult for us to go up and down just for an inquiry. I also booked a room for a great view, and I ended up having a view beside an ongoing construction of a building which ruins the ocean view of Sabang Beach. Its our second day in Puerto Galera and we enjoyed our stay way MORE better at Dreamwave Hotel compared to this place. Pls retrain your staff cause its a deal breaker to most of the travelers. Also, please provide more complimentary items like shampoo, dental kit, water or breakfast since your room rate is too expensive and you have a useless wifi.
EXCELLENT HOTEL, BAD LOCATION”
Steps Garden is an EXCELLENT hotel with super friendly staff. But its location, Sabang Beach, is a huge disappointment if you are not into diving.
Aircon is quiet & efficient, water pressure is good. Room is sparse but functional. Staff are very helpful & friendly, restaurant is good & prices are reasonable. No complaints about walking, it is called Steps so expect it. The only real problem is location - we faced the basketball court & they had matches almost every night. That includes a pa system for commentary & music in between. It doesn't go on past around 10pm so maybe it won't bother you, but if you want quiet drinks in the evening on your terrace & an early night you probably won't get it.
This is the first time I stay with this hotel and due to high occupancy, I could not make the same room type all through until my departure. but everything was organised in a way that i did not feel the hustle to change rooms. Staff speak very good english and no communication issues at all and they are very responsive too. always offer to help. the views are amazing by the way. as the name indicates, you need to climb a bit of steps to reach your name, but this is how you would get a better sea view from your room.
A bang for your buck!”
The resort is beautiful. As the name suggests, the place boasts a variety of plants and ornaments, not to mention the delicate pieces of architecture inspired by greek-Mediterranean. Every place in the resort is instagrammable. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The rooms are clean and comfy. Complete amenities. The only donwside for me was the slow wifi connection and the location. You have to walk thru an alley with noisy people in the court and drunk foreigners on the way to the beach. Overall enjoyed our stay in the resort. Will surely come back for more 😊
Will visit again”
From the start I was not expecting 5 star accommodation but all facilities are clean and doable. The biggest and supremacy of the resort is the blooming aura and the friendly staffs. Even with all the steps you climb (which will make you sweat) you wont feel aggravated haha Definitely I'll return and for the value for money - take the executive suite ^_^
problems with electricity, water, WIFI”
Power went out 5 or 6 times in 3 days! Luckily they have a generator but it takes about 10-20 minutes for the power to get turned back on. WIFI only worked HALF of the time!! Water went OUT completely for a few hours on one of the 3 days. Needed to climb HUNDREDS of steps just to get to the room. No phone in the room so every time there was an issue with the power, water or WIFI, we needed to walk down and up HUNDREDS of steps. Could not use USB stick to watch videos/movies on TV because the TV was decades OLD!!! Horrible sewer smell on the walk up to the hotel. This was a $53 per night hotel that should have been $20 per night. Nice views, nice pool, nice staff.... Note: Puerto Galera environmental fee has increased from 50 to 120 pesos in just 1 year. Minolo shipping lines has scammers at Batangas Pier trying to rip of customers by charging 800 pesos for a ferry that is supposed to cost 300 pesos. We ended up paying 350 per person and they were all asking for tips!!
amazing little paradise!”
the room we got is a standard room. nice tv and aircon and has a spacious terrace with a clear view of the swimming pool and beach view. the staff very friendly and accomodating. place much suited for a quiet stay but still has access to restaurants and boats for island hopping.. been staying here for years and it always improve from the last stay. thanks steps!
