“Birthday overnight getaway”
We chose this hotel after staying at the Stoney Creek in St. Joseph. My daughter had such a good time there, she wanted to recreate the night with the same friends who stayed at the other location. The Independence location is close to our house and was very conveniently location near a Mexican restaurant that we like. The facility was well kept and in good shape. Our check-in was smooth. We had 3 of the Deluxe Queen rooms and one family suite with bunk beds and pullout couch. The 3 queen rooms were decent, fairly small, but clean. The family suite was more than twice as big as the other rooms and was wonderful. Our kids loved the bunks and we had plenty of room to spread out. Great little living area! Highly suggest that room category for a family with kids! The pool is a swim under indoor/outdoor heated pool. It was very crowded. We were there on a holiday weekend so I'm not sure if it is always so crazy. It was a little too busy for my liking, but the kids still had fun. The staff wouldn't let you bring any drinks in the area, which was less than desirable. Even the outside section, they told someone they couldn't bring their canned soda out there. The bar opens at 4pm and is wonderful! Big and bright with large screen TV option for watching games.Our bartender was great and made excellent drinks. Pricing was not bad for a hotel bar. Cute corn hole section with fantastic view of lake and waterfall. Breakfast was picked over, but still sufficient with scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits with gravy, pancake maker, cereals, coffee, and juice machine with several options. Nice seating area with beautiful views. This was a great stay overall, just did not appreciate not being able to bring drinks with us to the pool area.
