      Beautiful place to stay”

      Peaceful and quiet

i really enjoyed my stay at the sukthavorn residence and will definitely be staying there again if i come back to chiang rai. it is a few km's out of town but if you like walking, then you would love it as i did. an easy ride on a bicycle with beautiful scenery or they have scooters to hire from the resort. the owner and his family/staff were so friendly, nice and very helpful. the hotel is clean and new and have balconies overlooking the river which is superb to sit and unwind at the end of the day. close to a market, local eateries and a 7 eleven. free coffee, tea & hot choc all day and although the menu is very limited, it is very cheap and tastes good. all in all, a superb place to stay and enjoy chiang rai.

      Superb budget hotel!”

Nice staff, new room, lovely view

Chiang rai has quiet a few good budget hotels. Sukthavorn is definitely one of them. The room was new and clean. It had all the neccessary items eg. hairdryer, electric kettle. The TV is now flat screen TV, not standard TV like in agoda's picture. The few downsides is there's only standard Thai channel and the hotel is 5,10 minutes drive from the center of Chiang rai. So it would be best if you have your own transportation.

      Felt right at home here”

      Thoughtful staff, pleasant surroundings, breakfast

Stayed for 3 nights. Have previously stayed at the Le Meridien and Baan Norn Plearn in Chiang Rai but this time chose to stay here. I really liked the garden, breakfast area and view from the rooms. The female staff member was really friendly and thoughtful - even bringing an umbrella to our car door when it was raining! Would stay here again. Chiang Rai is a lovely town - if you have your own transport then this is a great place to stay. Sure, it's a little outside of the main town, but that's not a problem if you have your own transport. Can't be beaten for the price! Thanks for the great stay.

      Comfortable and Quiet”

Fast Internett, Shower Hot and Strong, Quiet Setting

Ideal for a couple looking for a quiet place close to but not in city proper. A little secluded for solo, but worked out for me as such. The fastest Internet I have seen in China and SE Asia, and I've had some great connections in Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai. Clocked at above 6 Mbps. I suspect this is becuase not many are online in that part of Chiang Rai. Also, passed on WiFi and connected with in-room LAN cable. A rarity, these days. Like others said, need your own transpo. Great shower, very firm (hard) bed, nice little balcony overlooking what I would hesitate to call a *river,* but still good to see some water and green stuff. If you speak no Thai, be prepared to be patient with staff. Only thing I would suggest as a downside is old TV (CRT), not able to connect to laptop. But if you don't care about TV, and most won't, all good. Especially for the price. Can't be beat if you want to feel like you are in countryside while being able to scooter to center of town in five minutes.

      Nice, comfortable place.”

The rooms are immaculate. Big, comfortable, with a balcony that looks out over an oxbow lake.

I loved this place, the owner, though I never met him, spoke to me on the phone a few times while I was there, offering both his help and hospitality. The only difficult thing for me was that I did not have my own transportation at first, so if you do not, then it is a bit isolated. For me about an hour's walk from the main part of Chiang Rai. However, I rented a bicycle, and after that it was very easy to commute back and forth between town and the hotel. My last day the owner had his worker drive me with my bicycle to be returned to the rental place, free of charge. This he offered on his own without me asking anything. The next time I come to Chiang Rai I will definitely stay here again.

Location, out enough to be quiet but easy access to the city, Owner and staff so friendly and helpful, room good standard.

Stayed a couple of days first time in Chiang Rai, nicely appointed room, quality furnishings and lovely little balcony, great place to rest and relax after a day's sightseeing, definitely stay again..... only criticism was that cable channels weren't on TV as we thought so when we were rained in we had to talk to each other !! 555

      Clean, Quiet and Affordable

Strongly recommend this hotel to budget travellers who can use rental car. (there're many retal car shops in the airport and the rental cost for compact car is approx 1000 Baht/day, including full insurance.) The hotel offers us very reasonable price but provides us with all necessary stuff. I've stayed here 3 times and never had any disapointment. Will use this hotel whenever I visit Chiang Rai.

great place to stay in the countryside”

new, clean hotel in the beautiful Thai countryside overlooked by mountains on one side and a river running past on the other, the room had a balcony so that you could sit out and relax with a coffee in the morning and abeer in the evening.

The free breakfast was very minimal but ok for a small hotel. The owner and staff were very friendly, helpful and kind. The room was a good size with moden aircon and kept clean. Its a bit tricky to find the hotel and it would be best to map out your route before you get to chiang rai, or use a GPS as i did. Whilst the hotel is set in the countryside, it is away from the town and this may be a major disadvantage if you do not have your own car/motorbike

although we booked for only 1 night as transit point to chiang mai on the next day, the owner/manager who is fluent in english had contacted us and advised the nearby places of interest. he also gave a laser color-printed map with english names of roads, temples, markets so we can discover the city on motorbike. the receptionist miss sew is particularly charmant and tried her best in limited english to answer our queries. the location is secluded, about 7 kms from the clock tower but this allow us to truly enjoy the environment of chiang rai.

large clean rooms, very quiet but close to town

We enjoyed our one night here. It is outside of the town of chiang rai, on the north side of town. You do need a car to get to and from the hotel and it is a little tricky to find. The room was large and clean with a balconey that overlooks a river/canal. good value for the price. Breakfast was just okay; instant coffee, cold eggs, fried rice and toast; pretty common fare for Thailand.

Sunny morning on the balcony, smiling service, quiet, tranquil location

Well. We loved this place, and decided to stay for a few more nights then after. The service was smiling and caring, the room was always clean and tidy, the situation was quiet and tranquil. The breakfast is nothing amazing - if you like the basic eggs, congee, white bread and simple hot drinks then it's included, but I think they're new so maybe they need some time to work it out(?). ....We had our own breakfast on the balcony in the morning - where it was always sunny!!!! It was so lovely, we would stay there again if we came back!! The place is completely new, awesome shower, toilet, bed was super comfy with proper duvets, nice little setup and tastefully decorated!!!!!!! For the price, for the city... it was perfect for us! :-)

It's surrounded by open country, neighborhoods and small businesses and a few churches. The view is OK and it is mostly quiet. Breakfast is simple with fried eggs, toast, instant coffee, and a Thai dish. This is the best hotel in it's price classes I've stayed at in Thailand or Malaysia.

      Home rather than a hotel”

Relaxing environment. Taking breakfast in the garden under the morning sun and breeze is unforgettable

The stay is far exceeding my expection at the price I paid for. It is new and very clean. Small in size but make me feel like returning home. It may not be easy for foreigners without a little knowledge in Thai to find the hotel arriving by self driving as it is locating amid neighbourhood of residential houses in a small soi (alley) and the signboard at the main soi can easily be omitted. Internet access is very good as both wi-fi and lan connection available in the room and in the lobby, computer connected with printer is also provided. It is a family operated small size hotel so there is no formal receptionist well versed in English but presenting the Agoda booking voucher makes thing simple and easy for check-in. For me, it is a place I wish I can stay longer.

      Great value, friendly staff”

      Clean room, new facilities

Our room had a small balcony with a view. Newly built, clean and simple. Good base for exploring the area north of the Mae Nam Kok river. Breakfast is elementary (fried agg & toast / rice, instant coffee). Little garden, well kept. Staff very helpful and kind.

Rural residence with a rustic touch”

Staff are friendly despite language barriers; computer with a printer

The accommodation is more like a serviced apartment; the name residence is aptly used; it is not well marked by any sign; there is ambiguity as it has a second name; even taxi drivers find it hard to locate it.Guests only see the signs in Thai. You only see it in English when you get to the residence. One big disadvantage is its distance; even you use a short cut, it still takes some time to go to the city centre. It is very inconvenient for guests who do not have their own means of transport. I rent a bicycle in a downtown shop ( on the net it said there was free bike service but when I arrived there I was told the only bike there had a puncture and could not be used; but the reception girl was nice; she phoned the owner and he came back and took me to the bike shop to rent one; for 300 Bahts I kept it for two days; it is economical to do so as the taxi fare from the bus terminus (terminal 1, the old one) cost 200 Bahts !! ( but after some hassle the driver relented and charged me 150 Bahts in the end) So work out the cost of transport yourself. But my bike trips proved to be a mixed blessing; with it I could tour the neighbourhood and got acquainted with the area. The only drawback is that you need to climb over bridges which could exert yourself. Therefore this establishment is for those who have their own means of transport or are able walk for 45 minutes or one hour to the night market ( provided you know the way) But it is a good chance or exercise to locate places and work out muscles and bones.

stunning. brand new hotel, quiet location”

comfortable room, 5* bed, amazing price

We booked for 2 nights but immediately extended to 5 and would have stayed longer if possible. This is a genuine 4* hotel with a budget prove. The room is lovely with expensive furniture, bed and duvet. View out over a small river. There is an outdoor area which was very relaxing to hang around in. It is a super quiet area with no traffic at all. The staff are really friendly but speak limited English but we got on fine using sign language. The negative of the hotel is that it really is the middle of nowhere. It is 4K from the town centre but with no bars or Western restaurants nearby. There are no tuk tuks or taxis around either. There is a 7/11 about 1k away with a brilliant market next door and a couple of open air food places but really if you stay here you will need a car or bike to get around.
