Shangri La excellence - a refurb will bee required soon”
Relatively, Yangon has a limited choice of 5 star hotels and Sule Shangri La is one of the more mature ones. It lives upto the Shangri La brand, the staff are excellent as ever, the location is very central near Scotts Market, Sule Pagoda etc. (But NB need a taxi to get to Shwedagon Pagoda), Cafe Sule has an extensive choice of dishes from round the world for all meals and the swimming pool and gym are a good size. The room we had was sufficiently spacious for a city centre hotel, clean and well appointed. My one critical observation is that the feel of the hotel is slightly tired (e.g. the entrance coffee lounge) and will need modernising as new hotel brands open in Yangon, which should also bring down prices.
Thank you for your compliments on our guest rooms, restaurants, facilities and services. It was our pleasure to make you feel comfortable throughout your stay. We have also taken note of your concern on the upkeep of your facilities and will share with the team. We hope to have the opportunity to serve you again should your travels bring you back to Yangon. Sincerely,
5 Star Hotel with high quality western standards ”
The Sule Shangri La Hotel was the save haven for us. After our daily excursions in and around Yangon it was good to know that you have a nice and clean hotel room waiting for you. The check in, and the check out, was very fast at the reception. The room was very specious and at all we need for a relaxing stay. The pool and the gym was nice and it was fun to work out there. The bar and restaurant had all which a western tourist could wish for. We have to say that for Myanmar standards WIFI was very fast. We felt always save and secure. The location was great so for most of the sights it did not take long to get there. A nightly stroll was great. Two blocks form the hotel you have lively streets with lots lots to discover. Best hotel for us in Yangon, even maybe 15% - 20% overpriced. There are equivalent hotels, even from the same chain, which were much cheaper in other comparable citys,
Excellent hotel for Business and tourist travelers”
I stayed in the Sule Shangri-La hotel many times previously and it remains my choice of hotel in Yangon. The Sule Shangri-La is always clean and in good order. The facilities are all outstanding, including rooms, amenities, WiFi, restaurants, complementary breakfast, happy hour and meeting rooms in the Horizon Club. The staff is professional, courteous and very helpful. I will stay at the Sule Shangri-La highly recommend it to all travelers planning a trip to Yangon.
Superb hotel, Great Club level facilities, Outstt”
Over the past three years I stayed at the Sule Shangri-La, including under its former name Traders and the quality of the hotel remains excellent, Five Star +, The staff are very attentive, their service and attitude outstanding. They are the most accommodating, friendly and helpful you could ask for. All of the facilities at the Sule Shangri-La; the gym, pool, restaurants, bar and front desk staff are the best. I recommend the Sule Shangri-La to all travelers, business and tourist for a most enjoyable stay in Yangon.
The Best Hotel in Yangon”
The Sule Shangri-La is an outstanding value and a great hotel. Their facilities are first rate, a very nice swimming pool and pool services, a well equipped gym and full service business center. They have a good selection of restaurant and nice bar on the second floor. Their Club level rooms and services are also outstanding and a good value for business travelers. Their facilities include a great breakfast buffet, with breakfast food choices for every taste. They also a complementary business services, including use of conference/meeting rooms, computer and printing support. The Club level staff is outstanding, like the entire hotel staff. They are friendly, courteous, helpful and cheerful. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff at the Sule Shangri-La. I highly recommend the Sule Shangri-La to all travelers.
Best choice in Yangon”
So happy we picked Shangri-La,not much to do in Yangon, the hotel is well located, walking distance to Sule Pagoda,Bogyoge market,Cathedral and Maha Bandula Park. A Short ride to Swedagon Pagoda and restaurants. We had 2 dinners at the Sule Cafe and both were extremely good, service and quality. The room really comfy, internet connection was great, all staff were so attentive, friendly and speak good English. The breakfast is great worth the extra money. Real good choice in Yangon.
New Year 2016 Celebration!”
The Sule Shangri-La served as our base to explore downtown Yangon. It is conveniently located near the colonial part of Yangon (City Hall, Sule Pagoda, Aung San Bogyoke Market, Old Colonial Railway Station). The New Year party in the hotel was a blast!!! The only option when in Yangon.
Unforgettable weekend ”
Shangri-la is my favorite chain, so visiting Yangon I decided to stay here. Location is nice - can walk to Sula pagoda, gems market. Shwedagon is in 5-10 min driving (depends on traffic). Entering in the hotel lobby you like teleport to other city, country, universe .... Far from noisy, crowded and vibrant Myanmar capital ))) Modern hotel with colonial style interiors with some local Myanmar details (wood sculptures, pictures...), fantastic friendly and prevent service! Room is not big (no balcony), but has everything ! One of the best bedding sheets and bathrobes and towels for whole my travel experience ! Very quiet corridors (special system of noise isolation and doors closing) prove best conditions for sleeping and relaxation !!!! Breakfasts are perfect, all food is selected... Buffet has Indian, Myanmar, Chinese and international food stations (there are only 4 kinds of sausages there !!!) and fresh juices! We tried dinner in Chinese restaurant (2 floor). Was nice also! Nice quality and reasonable prices ! But better to book a table ! Unfortunately I had no time to use swimming pool, health center and gym in the hotel. Think they are also perfect and I will use them during my next travel in Myanmar capital !!!
A City Oasis”
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Sule Shangri-la. It is an oasis in Yangon, though it falls short of some of the facilities we have experienced in other Shangri-la hotels around Asia. However, the service of the staff could not be faulted - they were attentive and helpful throughout our staff. The hotel is not close to the airport but is very close to the Central Railway Station, if like us, you wish to explore Myanmar by rail afterwards.
Your best choice”
We were at the Savoy hotel, arrived late in the evening and was given one of the 'joint' rooms, and it turned to be very noisy, the other guest using the kettle to boil water, walking around the room was like we were in the same room. Finally got to sleep, mosquitos attacked, call the hotel reception, someone brought a huge can of insecticides...... couldn't sleep all night and requested for late checkout, and was granted for one hour, so we checked out and moved to Sule Shangri-la instead. Much better rooms and much better service at the Sule Shangri-la
Thank you, Roasaline! We certainly take pride in being your best choice.
Excellent Staff, Good Location, Room, Wifi”
What made our stay at Traders Yangon wonderful was the friendly attentive helpful staff throughout the hotel. I have stayed in many hotels throughout the world and it is difficult to get consistent, genuine, good service throughout a hotel. The excellent staff are what made this hotel a first class, six-star hotel to me. The cafe buffet food variety and quality was very good but the food at the Chinese restaurant a la carte was merely passable. The room size is spacious with comfortable beds; even those with bad backs will have no problems here. However, I must warn that the hotel is currently undergoing renovation Monday to Saturday 9am to 6pm so if one is out the whole day it is ok but if one returns at midday for a break from the heat, one would have to put up with the noise. For tourists and those with business downtown, the location is excellent with shops, sights and restaurants within easy walking distance. For those with business in other parts of town, finding a hotel where they would be working is advisable as the traffic is beginning to look like that of Bangkok and unlike Vietnam, bus and taxi drivers do not give way to pedestrians. Although our mobile phones had no service for half the time we were in Yangon, the hotel WIFI always worked well throughout the hotel.
A short stay at the end of a busy holiday”
Friends and I chose to stay at the Sule Shangri-La, Yangon so we could unwind and feel pampered on our last night in Myanmar. It was a great choice at a reasonable price. Staff were kind and helpful, the lounge was lovely and the food was delicious.
Western style hotel in a central location”
Traders is a modern Western style hotel in the heart of Yangon. Its main selling point is central location within minutes of an easy walk to Sule Pagoda, City Hall or the market. Surrounding busy streets are teaming with life and provide great opportunities to observe and photograph street vendors, crowds of passersby or busy traffic. The hotel itself is a welcome oasis in the sea of dust, noise and heat of this exotic city. Inside décor and facilities are indistinguishable from those at other major chains such as Sheraton or Marriott. Our room was complete with good soundproof windows, working air conditioning, comfortable beds and a safe. There was some renovation going on around eighth or ninth floor only bothersome during a massage which is done in one of the rooms on the eighth floor. Breakfast buffet offered a good selection with emphasis on local Burmese but also Indian and Chinese items. All staff spoke good English and was very polite. There are other good and perhaps more stylish hotels in Yangon but many of them seem to be scattered further away from the center and require transportation for sightseeing.
Rooms, Staff, Location, and Price… best for family”
Overall Shangri-La was a just what we needed for a family with younger children (under 10yrs old). On arriving, I paid a bit extra to get upgraded to the premier suite which had a seperate lounge area in the room. Also the main bedroom had a couch which we used as a bed for one of the kids and then got an extra bed for the other kid and the room was big enough to fit all of us comfortably. The hotel is centrally located with some sites being walking distance. The travel agent (HIS) helped us book all internal flights as well before we got there. The gym was new and had all the equipment you need. Two restaurants and a nice bar. As a premier room guest there was also use of the lounge on the top floor that had free afternoon tea and buffet snacks (which ended up being dinner for the kids on one night). So overall for the price this is a hotel worth staying at and will be the one of choice next time we stay in Yangon.
Excellent place for business in Yangon”
Excellent stay. Everyone is fun, efficient and welcoming. Change from Traders to Sule Shangri-la introduced a little "coolness" in staff, but maybe that was because many "suits" were hanging around watching everyone. I hope this eases in weeks and months ahead. still, a great hotel in Yangon, particularly for business travellers.
Shangri-la in the Golden Land? Not yet”
We chose to stay at the Traders in Yangon, the first stop of our Myanmar journey. We were given a corner room on the refurbished (non club) 18th floor of the hotel, which gave us a spectacular view of the Shwedagon Pagoda. The room itself was perfectly adequate with a comfortable bed and good shower, but maybe lacks a "wow" factor (other than the view). The hotel is still in the middle of its refurbishment programme and this does affect the arrangements for breakfast (now being taken in the conference room area on level 3) and the swimming pool and spa facilities (refer to later comments). We did not see the Club facilities at the very top of the hotel. Do take note that despite the name affiliation, this is no Shangri-la. However, once the refurbishment is complete, this should be a well located four-star hotel in central Yangon. Sights are within walking distance : Sule Pagoda, Bogyoke Aung San Market, open-air market as well as the crumbling, but still impressive, buildings from the colonial era. The breakfast buffet was extensive and of good quality (and we mean just that, trying to cater for all tastes - Chinese, Japanese, Indian, European, etc). The only criticism was the quality of the coffee, which would be better if this is freshly brewed rather that being served from a thermos flask. We took afternoon tea in the impressive lobby lounge which has to rate as one of the best deals that the hotel offers. For $10, we were served an impressive Asian inspired range of afternoon bites including samosa, siu mai, a very filling won ton noddle soup plus the traditional sandwiches, cakes and scones. Needless to say, we did not need supper that evening! By way of comparison, we took afternoon at the Strand hotel, which was more expensive (at $17 per person) and offered less in quantity and quality, despite the marginally nicer surroundings.
Another wonderful Shangri-la experience”
Another great stay at the shangri-la. Was the best option in Yangon and didn't disappoint. This is not comparable to facilities at Shangri-la hotels in developed countries however it was a great stay, friendly staff, super clean rooms and horizon club upgrades available at check in for US$40 a night (2 people) ensured that we had a great experience. Highly recommended.
Great location and worth staying”
Overall me and my partner had a great stay! Staff, room, food and restaurants are fantastic. And yes we will stay at Sule Shangri-La again if we go to Yangon.
Great location, friendly staff, tasty breakfast”
I stayed two nights in Traders Hotel, Yangon and I enjoyed my time there. As a solo traveler, I was given a room with two twin beds, which didn't make much sense to me, but since I got in so late I wasn't up to argue. The morning breakfast offers a wide selection of Asian dishes with fresh fruits and juices as well. There is your typical breads, cheeses, and pastries as well. The location is superb, within walking distance of Sule Pagoda, Bogyoke Market, the central train station, and not too far from the river. The pool and the wait service were fantastic, as was the room service and dining options. The locker rooms could use a renovation, but when I stayed there they were doing some upgrades so I imagine they'll get to it. All in all, I'd stay there again for a 4-star quality hotel.
Great stay in Yangon”
This was my first trip to Myanmar, and I was happy to find a Shangri-La hotel in the area that I wanted to stay. Shangri-La is a preferred choice for me, wonderful accommodations, very friendly, welcoming and helpful staff, and great restaurants. I enjoyed using the nice pool, and the very good gym facilities, which is important to me when I'm away from home. The location was great, easy walking distance within downtown, the market, river, and local historic sights. The concierge also helped arrange excellent day tours for us which was much more convenient than if we attempted to get around ourselves.
Thank you for this wonderful review, Dave! Good to know you found your Shangri-La in Yangon!
