Sura Hagia Sophia Hotel
Sultanahmet,Sultanahmet - View on map
"Location of this hotel is superb! Only 2-3 minutes walking away from Sultanahmet gardens, where you will directly access to Hagia Sophia and The Blue Mosque. I was traveling with my 79 yo Mother, using a wheelchair occasionally. We booked triple room type to get extra space for our luggages and her wheelchair. Room has window but the view was in fact decorated wall. Bedroom was clean, bed and pillows were comfortable. Bathroom with shower cubicle was clean. Our toilet bowl was a bit of a problem as the water kept running after we flushed but technician managed to fix it. Breakfast variety was great for us! They alternate eggs menu every other day, which was good for us. Staffs were helpful and friendly, as they were trying their best for us to check in, especially by look at my old mother who needed to rest and refresh upon our arrival at the hotel. Overall our experience was great! We liked the hotel, we recommend it to friends and family. Thank you!"

Fer Hotel

"All staff were super helpful and always genuinely wanted to assist us on many things. Breakfast was the best spread out of all the similar hotels we stayed around Turkey on this trip and was open untill 1030am which was great!!! As requested we were given a room on the top floor and thank you for that. Hotel is ideally located very close to Grand Bazaar and that is why we booked this hotel for our last 3 nights to get some shopping done and it was worth it. Hotel has super new elevators and unlike most hotels around the old city, you don't have to take steps up and down. Really both of us couldn't find a fault. Also the hotel is opposit a HSBC bank branch if that helps to some travellers who bank with HSBC globally. 3 to 5 minutes walk to the Grand Bazar and less than 10 minutes walk to nost attractions around sultanahmet area. McDonalds is only 350m away if you get bored with Turkish food for a month and Burger King is even closer. Uber from hotel to Istanbul Ataturk International airport was 67TL for a minivan. We will definitely come back to Istanbul and will stay at thr very same hotel. Keep up the good work."

Divas Hotel
Sultanahmet,Sultanahmet - View on map
"We stayed for 6 nights in a triple room which has a spacious area. Breakfast was the same every morning but enough to fuel our energy. Close to an old small mosque and had a chance to see how the 'Imam' and the 'Bilal' functional management of the mosque. It takes about 10 mins uphill walk to Sultanahmet area. Hotel has elavator. Only few hotels have elevator. The hotel location is not quite friendly for elderly/disabled (in wheelchair) as it it located on hilly roads. Therefore, taxi service is required to commute from the hotel. The receptionist, Nihat was very helpful. He contacted taxi which arrived within 5 mins. We requested for his assitance to search for a wheelchair shop (as ours were broken in Istanbul) and he provided us with the details. Other staff, like Memet, there very helpful as well. Overall, it was an enjoyable stay. "

Azade Hotel Istanbul
Sultanahmet,Sultanahmet - View on map
"The receptionists were quite helpful as was the support staff. They managed us a airport shuttle while checking out in a moments notice. The view from our room was amazing and the view from the terrace is worth the admission price. great views of the bosphorus, as well as ayasofia & Blue mosque. It was a 5 mins walk to the sultanahmet square and the road is filled with restaurants. The breakfast was great with decent variety. 2 things which bothered me a little, only one complimentary bottle of water for a 3 night stay & small bathroom. Apart from these 2 nitpicks, Amazing!"

More about Sultanahmet

Sultanahmet – Old City is the focal point of the European side of Istanbul, once ruled by the Byzantine Empire. This is where most tourists stay while visiting Istanbul, and there is an extensive selection of accommodation in Sultanahmet – Old City.

The entire neighborhood radiates around the Hippodrome, which was once the centerpiece of life in the Byzantine capital. The main structure is gone, but the garden of sculptures and monuments here date as far back as the 4th century. The crowning attraction of Sultanahmet is Saint Sophia (also known as the Hagia Sophia). For a full millennium, this basilica held the world record for largest enclosed space, and it’s still a dramatic and impressive site.

Istanbul may have first flourished as under the Byzantine Empire, but there were just as many impressive developments under the Ottomans. The greatest Ottoman addition to the Old City is the Blue Mosque, built in the early 17th century. It’s still an active place of worship, but visitors are welcome outside of prayer times.

It takes days to properly explore and appreciate the Old City, strung with cafés and restaurants serving a heady mix of European, South Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Fare. Visitors can explore Divan Yolu Street with its maze of side streets to find carpet merchants, hookah bars and Turkish coffee shops.

The tourism industry in Istanbul has grown substantially in the last decade, much to the benefit of hotels in Sultanahmet – Old City. The best selection of new or newly renovated hotels is on the south shore of the peninsula, while a few are located to the north where they offer fine views of the Hagia Sophia. Options range from grand five-star enterprises to historic boutique inns.
